To fix the midfield we need experienced hard running bodies and depth.

To fix the flanks we need some speed and skill.

We might have to settle for players with deficiencies in areas but strength in their roles.

To fix the key forwards we really need an athletic tall who combines smartly leading up at the footy with mobility and size. If it’s not Waterman or McKay it’s a total gamble. I’d probably sign on for the Nathan Kreuger experience because there’s not much else out there.

Watching Werribee v Geelong. Parfitt playing a lot of forward. Not really getting a chance to push his case.

Riley Bice looks a half back destined for the AFL system. @dazzledavey36 surely will have seen plenty of him over the journey.

14 minutes ago, whatwhat say what said:

i think this year showed how hard it is to set up the core identity you want to have as a team from season to season, let alone in-season

i think we'll continue to evolve our game plan based upon our personnel

my biggest concern is that we are seemingly wanting to move to a more skill-based gameplan - much like everyone else in the competition - but without the players possessing the skillset to pull it off

I'd love to know what the players think.

I reckon they'd prefer the two options I proposed instead of the transition game.

IMV, it's much better to go against the grain.

I certainly have and I know Melbourne are a number of clubs that are keeping a close eye on him.

Absolute gun.

And in the other channel 7 VFL game the first goal is kicked by Corey Ellison who looks a lot fitter and stronger than his Casey days. Not sure he’d be the answer to our key forward issues but he’s another who has a good case to be on a list especially with his versatility

He remains me a lot of Brody Mihocek was at Port Melbourne.

I'd say we've added Rivers, Tholthrop and potentially McVee to our midfield stocks this year...

Darkest before the dawn i say :)

Rivers potential as a mid looks sound, McVee is nowhere near ready and is so accomplished at HB you’re robbing Peter to pay Paul. Tholstrup is also a fair way off. He has some solid attributes but he’s got a long long way to go. We desperately need Oliver’s best back to be the extractor along with Viney. We simply must get 2 “Windsor” level mids through the door this draft period.

Wouldn't mind if we had a look at Seamus Mitchell from the Hawks who finds himself out of the team currently. Small defender with exceptional pace and impressed me on the limited times I've seen him play. Had some injury concerns early in his career but seems over it now and has played 24 games over the past two seasons. 22yrs old so a good age to come in and impact with some development behind him. Contracted until next year however.

What are you talking about? He attracted Lever, May and Langdon, who were all vital pieces to the premiership puzzle.

TPP then can become a problem when you win a flag.

Goody has said many times that he wants the team to play a brand of footy the fans recognise and get behind.

We recognise it alright, but I seriously doubt the majority of supporters enjoy watching how we go about it.

Wonder if we will up our pursuit of Cumming with Houston committing to Port?

Port may not commit as much money and years with Houston staying and also trying to acquire Perryman.

We obviously wouldn't mind some HB re-inforcements and a better chance of best 22 gaurentee.

I agree. He’s a quality player and unlucky not to be getting regular footy.  Not sure MFC would offer an “automatic” inclusion though.  It’s going to be hard to shake players out of the hawks but they will face a player squeeze at the end of next year.  They will also find the $$$ tightening as they pay for guys like B$attle and B$arrass.  Also will see higher $$$ into others.  Get into Mitchell manager early that Dees are interested.

Jai Serong - 21 year old Hawks key defender. Hawks going hard for Barass and Battle also joining them.

With Tommo likely gone, TMAC with 1 year maximum left, Hore not quite at AFL standard, Jed Adam's still developing, he may be worth a look.

Same goes for Jai Serong, thought he was best on for the Hawks yesterday. Good package of size, skills, athleticism, ball winning off half back.

Going to be very hard to break in to the Hawks backline once they add Battle and Barrass, and possibly Perryman on the wing.

They might be willing to move one of those depth pieces a year early given they won’t be able to keep them once they sit in the vfl for another year.

I think our main priority is to pick up a ruckman like Fort or Moyle.

If we could get a few depth midfielders like Robertson or Brodie that would be a bonus.

Moyle signed on with the Sun not long ago unfortunately. Wouldn’t mind Bryan from Essendon.

I hope we go hard for Peating. Would give us some much needed change in the middle.

I still think we need a small forward as Chandler is more a defensive small forward. Pickett spends some time in the middle or is having an off night and then we are left with no small… Malcolm Rosas for me is gettable. Matt Owies would be good but I can’t see him leaving.

I low key like the look of Reef McInnes.
Do we take a punt on someone like Nick Hind to add some speed?

I think Will Brodie or Ben Hobbs are good Options. Do we also take a shot at Brandon Parfitt or Will Phillips?

Although 95% of these players are not my ideal trade ins I’m trying to be realistic but still think they can add something to our list.

If they’re not your ideal trade then they are not worth pursuing. Better to find a young recruit and try to develop his talent.
