    Massive coaching fail when guys like Grundy, Jordon and Bedford couldn't get going for us, all walk to other clubs and make those teams better.

    List management just as bad when we replace them with [censored] like Hunter, Fullarton and Billings.

    I think Brody is the Swans' biggest weakness next weekend. Longmire will hope that they play Geelong rather than Brisbane. I thought Sweet monstered Brody tonight. The Swans were smashed in clearance.

     The problem with this type of analysis of list management is that the player motives and opposition club enticements are never factored in. It's a very simplistic view that can be summarized as... "Jordan showed signs of being a good AFL player... MFC list management didn't see his worth... Club shipped him out to first buyer that kicked his tyres!" There are many other considerations when it comes to list management in the 'Cap' years! Every other club would have similar stories to tell about the ones that got away as they try to crystal ball future list improvements/team balance. MFC list management has been very good in recent times. It was pivotal in breaking the drought. It has kept us in top four contention up to the final rounds of 2024. That's not to say it has been perfect, but credit where credit is due would make your concerns much more relevant/readable!

    Club didn't value him and didn't give him games, he left seeking greater opportunity and we were left with worse players. Every year since the flag our list has gotten worse because we've lost good players and brought in worse ones.

    I don't get why people constantly feel the need to make excuses for poor management. I don't really care if other [censored] clubs have the same problem. I want us to do better than that. It's hardly impossible.

    Yeah I'm clearly talking about issues since the flag.

    Our list management between 2014 and 2020 was good. I'd like us to get back to that.

    Both of Jordon and Bedford are playing tagging roles, which Goodwin doesn’t employ.

    It’s not necessarily a fail, more that it’s differing tactics.

    I guarantee both of them weren’t recruited to be taggers by Sydney & GWS

    Yep 100% agree! Coz Max and Goodwin could not make it work! Dreadful!

    Was the wrong decision, both max and Grundy are no 1 ruckman in any team and that is it. Would have been better for both parties had we gone for a more mobile/forward ruckman instead.

    100%. I proposed at the time that Hayden McLean would have been a better fit than Grundy. Had only played 31 games in 4 years at that stage, so could have been gettable.

    Meanwhile the bloke we trusted to be our number one ruckman picked up his seventh All Australian jacket.

    Grundy, for nearly all the last half of this season, is just a very ordinary player.  In fact, he has really been nothing better than average since 2019.  He was poor last night and was comprehensively cleaned up by Sweet.  According to Champion Data ratings he is the 16th highest rated ruck in the competition this year.  Absolutely do not understand the sense of loss from some on here.  Good on him for being part of a GF side, but this Swans team isn't good because of him.  Heeney, Warner, Gulden set them apart.

    Agree with the majority sentiment on here - Grundy was awful last night and has been mediocre, at best, for most of the season. 

    His inability to compete with Sweet was one of the only things which kept Port in the game through the middle two quarters. 

    It must be tough for Taylor Adams to be missing out when he was in better form than Grundy but can’t get into their stacked midfield. 

    Don’t get me wrong, I like Grundy as a person and I really respect how he handled himself from Collingwood to us and then to Sydney in 13 months. If he wins a flag, good on him. But there’s not a shred of me which wishes we didn’t trade him - he’s in no better form than he was when we dropped him last year.

    Ridiculous comment. So Brody had nothing to do with this? He is the victim, and he had no input into how this was going to work? Your default position is always to blame. Has it ever occurred to you that things just don't turn out the way you envisaged. And that no one is to blame. I credit the club for taking the risk and having a go. If we hadn't, you would have been the first to pay out on the club.

    So .... giving Max more time forward would'nt stretch defences? And prolong his career?? Hnmm thats what I would have done! Stuff this no 1 ruckman ideology, its a team game. Norm Smith would certainly agree.

    Agree list mgt has been good picking kids etc .. but last 3 yrs to consider what’s walked vs what we got in was a massive failure and weakened our list with the retirement of Brayshaw , Oliver issues & Trac injury..  apart from Billing’s who only is getting a game due to injuries the rest are at Casey & Schache delisted & perhaps more should also go starting with Hunter due to form and other issues

    You don't think having Max, the best ruckman of the last 20 years if not of all time playing in his best position would be a better option?

    Max is not and never has been a forward, that's in part why the Grundy experiment didn't work.

      A month is a long time in AFL football. The proof of this is in the current state of the two teams contesting against each other early this Saturday afternoon at the MCG. It’s hard to fathom that when Melbourne and Fremantle kicked off the 2025 season, the former looked like being a major player in this year’s competition after it came close to beating one of the favourites in the GWS Giants while the latter was smashed by Geelong to the tune of 78 points and looked like rubbish. Fast forward to today and the Demons are low on confidence and appear panic stricken as their winless streak heads towards an even half dozen and pressure mounts on the coach and team leadership.  Meanwhile, the Dockers have recovered their composure and now sit in the top eight. They are definitely on the up and up and look most likely winners this weekend against a team which they have recently dominated and which struggles to find enough passages to the goals to trouble the scorers. And with that, Fremantle will head to the MCG, feeling very good about itself after demolishing Richmond in the Barossa Valley with Josh Treacy coming off a six goal haul and facing up to a Melbourne defence already without Jake Lever and a shaky Steven May needing to pass a fitness test just to make it onto the field of play.

      What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around.It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.
