I think the most damning thing about this is how the Melbourne Football Club is viewed by the wider AFL community and opposition supporters.

It took us such a long time (57 years) to finally gain respect again after winning the Premiership in 2021. Demons President Kate Roffey aptly said, at the time, that we were at the "centre of the AFL Universe" which was correct. It was a great position to be in. Seeing the late and great Ron Barassi raise the 2021 Premiership Flag in Round 1 back in 2022 was a wonderful experience.

But now, after two straight sets finals losses in 2022 and 2023 and allowing Collingwood to bully us we are seen as a joke again. It may be fine for others, but to be called "weak" and "soft" by feral opposition supporters really angers and embarrasses me.

Yes because being weak and soft has nothing to do with how talented you are at football but everything to do with how much you care about your club. And I'm not convinced a lot of players do care about the club at the moment.

Fair enough WCW but my intel is that there is something NQR at the Club, which has brought about this situation. Dont know what, but have a few hunches!

I was talking to a former board member during the week who alluded to as much. She is still very involved with the club and would not elaborate but implied something is NQR behind the scenes.

Maybe our supporters need to harden up. We won a flag, we’ve been in the top 4 for 3 years straight, now we play bad for 6 weeks and everyone is crying into their pillows. [censored].

No pies supporter is ever going to say nice things about us, accept it, tell them to FO and move on with your life.

We’re not going well, need to fix some things and play better. No need to curl up into the foetal position and cry.

I see the beatification of the thug has started over the last week. Surely next week Brayshaw will be fined for injuring his hip with his head.

Not remembering we played brilliantly in game 1 ( or zero...lol  ) ... nor did we remember to turn up in time against tge Lions.   I'm thinking whatever underlying malais exists has been around much longer than 6 weeks.

Yes...won a flag .... a good thing.

Trend since.... not so much...

But please all, when ever discussion goes into a direction folk don't enjoy....   break glass and hoist that flag.

You're right...we aren't going too well.  Might possibly be the only aspect everyone agrees upon. Not thinking many if any arw either curled up or rocking monotonously....

Need to fix a few things/play better.  Yep, go along with that but there might be a tad more than a few things .....unless you're simplying it as ....need a working gameplan, need better skills and need more commitment/endeavour.   There's some things that spring to mind.  Probably just need to wave a wand over that 'short' list. All good.

I agree some need to harden up.... but might i respectfully suggest we start with those playing closely folllowed by those directing !!  Need some HARD decisions made....and HARD evaluations.

Shouldn't be too hard....just a few things.

Not against HARD decisions, I’m just against unnecessary panic leading to poor decisions.

Yardsticks of the competition, Swans (two coaches since 2002), Cats (two coaches since 2000). Underachieving panic merchants, Blues (8 coaches since 2001, many of them would’ve sacked Voss mid-year last year if they could’ve too), Bombers (6 coaches since 2008, plus some interims).

Who do we want to be? Perennial finalists or panicked yo-yos?

P.s. Seems you find typing HARD… to do, maybe try… using… both hands.

What we do is mutually exclusive of the highs/lows  , success and or failures of other teams.  The comparison is truly moot unless ALL variables are equal.  And they never are. Each club plies its own path and has its own things to deal with.

I want to win flags.  Being finalists isn't the goal.....as we can attest.

Can someone please explain to me, how Maynard was not cited for his sling tackle yesterday?

Well he wasn't cited for a mid-air shoulder to the head that ended a career.

At this point he could probably go full Barry Hall and get away with it

Because the MRO played 131 games for Collingwood

My son was at the game and told me Maynard ‘will be in a spot of trouble’. My spirits lifted somewhat but then I saw the report post game and he wasn’t mentioned.

I have no idea why I am not surprised 🤷‍♀️

Serious question, can anyone walk me through how it has come to pass that since The Brayshaw incident, the desire to incessantly rehabilitate the image of Maynard continues in certain sections Of the media? As in, why him. He’s a middle of road player. What gives, what am I not Understanding?

Though to be fair, it's an accurate headline.

Maynard does perfectly embody the mindless thuggery and low IQ that is in the DNA of the Collingwood Football club.

I wouldn't wish serious injury on any player

except Maynard

Including practice games and vfl time, Maynard puts someone in hospital with a head injury on average every 18 months.

Someone crunch the f'r. I say that with the full moral authority of an adorable sweetie cuddle-monster.

Ironic that his Dad played for Melbourne.

Best revenge would be to [censored] them on KB & beat them by a point in the finals.

I would be stunned if the club had anything to do with Maynard. He would set the record as player most booed by his own supporters. Easily

Wasn’t sure where to post something I wanted to say about Maynard then this thread was bumped.

So I have a friend who works at the ‘G. Yesterday he was in the home team’s rooms which were set up for Collingwood (since they’re the next team to play a home game there) including posters on the walls and the like.

One poster which is supposed to depict the essence of Collingwood has the word FIGHT in large block letters underneath which is a photo of Maynard slamming into a Melbourne player.

I was shocked and said surely it’s not the Gus incident???? He said you couldn’t see the head of the Melbourne player but the number on his jumper started with a 1

If they’ve printed a poster with that disgusting incident on it and are pinning it up proudly in the rooms at the ‘G for motivation or whatever, they’re even more reprehensible than we thought possible.

If there was ever a sliver of thought that Collingwood are nothing but a bunch of [censored] ... well... that's gone !!

Ask your friend to take a photo and post it here. I will commit the rest of my week, hell even the rest of next month, in ensuring every media outlet, footy forum, social media platform is drowned in how pathetically irresponsible this is and how that act of thuggery is celebrated in an age where concussion is rife.

I kid you not. Give me the ammunition and ill get it done.

Plus one

Formal Complaint to the afl and cc Green

The afl wants kids to play - I’ll never have mine play ever whilst this stuff goes on

We’re in nsw so you’re competing hard against soccer (northern rivers)
