Your interpretation of 'great' must be my 'handy'

32 touches, 24 kicks, 6 contested possessions, 8 intercepts, 9 marks (2 contested but that was highest on ground). I'd say he was pretty good.

Correct and unfortunately Tmac has shown more this year and deserves his spot ahead of Tommo.
Realistically Tommo would have been dropped post bye for Lever anyway.

Why unfortunately??

Can anyone please explain how Petty is playing, please!!!

Collingwood with half a team in will play with heart, something we’ve been severely been lacking & Petty especially

Hope Laurie gets a full game, we know what we’ll get with Billings so make him sub, give Bill a go & see what he’s got

Petty is playing because we need a key forward and Goody is stubborn simple as that

His impact with that wasn't that impressive from what i witnessed CD.  There were a number of turnovers im there also.

Very hard to judge anyone's form on one match against a bottom rung VFL opponent that's only won one other match aside from against us last week.

Same with today's game vs the filth.

Fair call but his kicking distance can't be excused by conditioning. You either can kick the ball more than thirty or you can't. No amount of game time is going to fix that I'm afraid.

So how far was he kicking for Casey this afternoon, I wasn't watching

Well I mean unfortunately for Tommo. I really like Tomlinson and I think he has a lot of offer, but unfortunately for him and he’s always had too much competition at Melbourne. Hard to compete with May, Lever and now a reborn Tmac.

It’s seems Deever under estimates length. Poor fella. Must have self esteem issues 😳😳😂😂

Incorrect. He is not fast or nimble enough to play on a small. Him May and TMac together make for a pretty slow backline anyway. It’s one thing when you have 3 talls to defend. Another when you’re defending smaller players.

... and it is another thing to (at the opportunity) to break free for receives, and with his booming kick, hit his target in the Dees' forward progression of the ball. He's done this, recently, without sole focus of defending against an opponent outside of their goal zone.

Except all 3 of them are getting older. How do we keep him for another year or two to step in as those three start to fall struggle with older bodies.

I question if Maysie is fit enough to be out there at the moment. (He'll probably play a blinder)

Tommo is a vexing issue as I think he has the capability to be a permanent rock for us down back. He's just a very close run 4th at the moment

Season on line tmmrw. No doubt about it. If we can't beat a second tier filth side then the show is over. Ignore Maynard.

we need a big body forward to play along side JVR Fristch and Turner who are either young or undersized or both

Ideally Brown would play this role but he has been poor and his body doesn’t hold up. Petty has mostly been poor but at least is young and might improve.

Season is salvageable if we win and finished if we lose.

If we don’t target Maynard physically tomorrow then we’re a bunch of Peahearts.

I think Collingwood will torch us sadly but I am happy to be proven wrong 🤷🏻‍♂️.

Yeah hard to have any faith in a side that has not just been beaten, but waived the white flag twice in 3 weeks

Strange how three weeks can markedly change your view. I now see our side as in need of some change and renewal. We miss Gus big time, our forward line is a shambles and the loss of Yze to Richmond may now be showing that he is a big loss. We seem to have lost our spark. For me this weekend is about today. I am very interested in the  Casey game. The weather will have some effect but I look forward to seeing who has made progress and who shows any signs of being a top level player. I am really looking forward to seeing the new light from the west. Tomorrow is about who has the least impact from injuries. IMO neither team will win a flag in 2024 or even make the top 4.

Yes, in retrospect Yze may be a huge out, but remember many here lauded McQualter as the second coming of Christ.  I am not quite sure of his role.

Out

Hunter, McAdam, Tomlinson, wowoedin, Windsor

In

JVR, billings, Laurie, howes, K brown?

I'm guessing either

Howes sub = Petty back

Or

Laurie/billings sub = Petty forward

Laurie? Billings?  Does it make much difference?

I hope not.

Last time he was sub against the pies he barely touched it. And he played almost the entire game.

Shocking selection by Goody last year in the final.

Goody is not THE selection panel though I am sure he has a huge say.  And the Laurie as sub wasn't quite as bad as the Schache sub unused even when Petty (tor was it TMc) was limping throughout the last quarter

I would like to see Maynard dealt with but not sure if we want to be distracted by him.

Nah, let's do him in.

“What the [censored]!”  Billings to play Laurie  the bridesmaid.

Hunter is great but keeps getting injured. Not very excited about Billings, McAdam and Schache. Billings and McAdam have shown glimpses but not enough to get that excited over. Schache just seems like a VFL player, not enough drive for AFL level.

Consider what we have lost, Jackson, Grundy, Jordan, Harmes, yet Schace had played 4/5 games and was a sub over Grundy, Fullerton is a back up ruck and hasn’t played a game, am I missing something?

Key and Big forward have always meant the same thing in the 40+ years I've been watching.

  • NON-MFC: Round 06

The Easter Round kicks off in style with a Thursday night showdown between Brisbane and Collingwood, as both sides look to solidify their spots inside the Top 4 early in the season. Good Friday brings a double-header, with Carlton out to claim consecutive wins when they face the struggling Kangaroos, while later that night the Eagles host the Bombers in Perth, still chasing their first victory of the year. Saturday features another marquee clash as the resurgent Crows look to rebound from back-to-back losses against a formidable GWS outfit. That evening, all eyes will be on Marvel Stadium where Damien Hardwick returns to face his old side—the Tigers—coaching the Suns at a ground he's never hidden his disdain for. Sunday offers two crucial contests where the prize is keeping touch with the Top 8. First, Sydney and Port Adelaide go head-to-head, followed by a fierce battle between the Bulldogs and the Saints. Then, Easter Monday delivers the traditional clash between two bitter rivals, both desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top end of the ladder. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.
