Geez we now have a lot of WA’s talent on our list, is it possible we are looking at a future trade for, possibly, the best midfielder going around. I’m still dirty on LJ going home, hopefully Harley wants too come home to his mums cooking too. Delusional, maybe, but having bargaining chips up the sleeve would help if my delusion came too fruition. It’s medicinal b4 you ask😜

    My old granny was a teetotaller,  never touched a drop.   But did take the drop of medicinal brandy before bed that the good doctor prescribed.     but that was all.   I had to purchase the brandy   just cannot remember the name  but it was cheap.  And I was about 14..

    Saad El Hawli (23yo) is the one that looked the most ready made and could potentially play this season.
    Half back/wing with speed to burn who has dominated in VFL. 

    That said, I'm very happy to have Kentfield.  My main disappointment with not getting El Hawli is that Essendon did, and they've already got a very handy player in Sam Durham from a previous mid-season draft.

    WC had very good KPs in 2018. Richmond brought in Lynch and he played in the 2019 and 20 flags. We went big at the other end and brought in Lever and May. Geelong had Hawkins and brought in Cameron. Even Collingwood brought in McStay.

    All the recent flags have been won by teams who have seen the value of KPs. They're expensive to trade or contract in FA but they're indispensible. It's worth trying to draft some prospects.

    Melbourne have added a promising player from the WAFL in Subiaco forward Luker Kentfield.

    Also to clarify.  He has kicked 1 goal in his last 5 games for Subiaco senior team.  Just to calm the high expectations.  He’s a speculative pick that will need time to develop.

    Sounds like he has dealt with some injury issues and illness according to JT, which probably has impacted him.

    He's a speculative key forward pick, as are pretty much all key position selections in any form of draft.

    I’m genuinely excited by this pick — Kid has a crack as shown by highlights, def more of a JVR type than Jeffo type as in seems to be able to impact the contest with physicality and can pinch-hit in ruck. Coaches have all said he’s a ripper and that he’ll make an impact fast which is always a good sign.. Welcome to Demonland ‘Kenter’ as I’m already calling him.. exciting prospect that I’m glad we called out.

    Obviously you need good players everywhere to win a flag. But several recent teams have have been successful despite having weak key forwards (Melbourne, Collingwood, Richmond 2017, WB). And no premiership team has had a poor or even average midfield.

    I think the model of bringing in established key position forwards (trade or free agents) rather than drafting them is the better one. It means you hit on your draft picks more often and get more early value (as smaller players seem to take less time to develop).

    The other thing I would note is that the key position forwards we have actually been most successful with at the draft were actually initially seen as defenders (JVR, Petty, Smith, TMac and Turner). This shows to me that second efforts are particularly important.

    BTW I hope Kentfield is Allen Jakovich II.

    Like this lad the more you look into his worth.

    Played seniors in the WAFL  only 19,  has NOT played  for other AFL clubs so he has not been tried and found wanting

    A clean slate,  with size and some ruck and forward ability.  Hoping they have found another rough diamond from WA.

    How any one on the limited highlights could liken Luker other than name ( and part joking) to the most disappointing and wasteful half forward we ever recruited is beyond belief and in fact disgraceful. 

    He is a completely different player a KPForward not a flaky flanker and if his CV is truthful plays a bit like JVR crashing packs.

    My granny never touched a drop until she was about 50.  Made up for it.  Used to run a sly grog - even granddad had to pay.

    Not sure what this has to do with Kentfield but there you go

    Looking at his highlights reels he looks like a competent footballer and has some excellent size about him, hope he gets a good run at it at Casey and wins a contract extension. Good luck Luker.!!

      A month is a long time in AFL football. The proof of this is in the current state of the two teams contesting against each other early this Saturday afternoon at the MCG. It’s hard to fathom that when Melbourne and Fremantle kicked off the 2025 season, the former looked like being a major player in this year’s competition after it came close to beating one of the favourites in the GWS Giants while the latter was smashed by Geelong to the tune of 78 points and looked like rubbish. Fast forward to today and the Demons are low on confidence and appear panic stricken as their winless streak heads towards an even half dozen and pressure mounts on the coach and team leadership.  Meanwhile, the Dockers have recovered their composure and now sit in the top eight. They are definitely on the up and up and look most likely winners this weekend against a team which they have recently dominated and which struggles to find enough passages to the goals to trouble the scorers. And with that, Fremantle will head to the MCG, feeling very good about itself after demolishing Richmond in the Barossa Valley with Josh Treacy coming off a six goal haul and facing up to a Melbourne defence already without Jake Lever and a shaky Steven May needing to pass a fitness test just to make it onto the field of play.

      The Easter Round kicks off in style with a Thursday night showdown between Brisbane and Collingwood, as both sides look to solidify their spots inside the Top 4 early in the season. Good Friday brings a double-header, with Carlton out to claim consecutive wins when they face the struggling Kangaroos, while later that night the Eagles host the Bombers in Perth, still chasing their first victory of the year. Saturday features another marquee clash as the resurgent Crows look to rebound from back-to-back losses against a formidable GWS outfit. That evening, all eyes will be on Marvel Stadium where Damien Hardwick returns to face his old side—the Tigers—coaching the Suns at a ground he's never hidden his disdain for. Sunday offers two crucial contests where the prize is keeping touch with the Top 8. First, Sydney and Port Adelaide go head-to-head, followed by a fierce battle between the Bulldogs and the Saints. Then, Easter Monday delivers the traditional clash between two bitter rivals, both desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top end of the ladder.       What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around.It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.
