2021 feels more and more like a lucky flag in an asterisk* year.

We couldn't win a final in 22 or 23 and this team is far worse.

Will be years before we contend again.

Rubbish performance. Collective failure. Just weak. Not much else to say really.

The Eagles played out of their skins - no doubt about that. That is common when a lesser ranked/younger/inexperienced team plays a contender.

Sadly , we could not lift  to match that effort.

We are kidding ourselves.  We are not contenders.

Worst performance in the last 4 years. We were monstered by them and I hope we’re absolutely filthy with ourselves. Very keen to see next week’s response.

Embarrassing. Just Embarrassing.

Here's the good news: we now must play Jefferson. We now must give new recruits a game ahead of Billings - i.e. Tholstrup. It's now patently obvious that our current team being selected is lacking.

A game we lost because our opponent was simply better. I don’t think this new game plan is going to work. We simply don’t have enough elite ball users to create attack off half back. Nor do we have the forwardline.
Time to reassess what we do for the remainder of the year, because if we are willing to go back in order to go forward in 2025, then we need to invest heavily in better ball users in the trade period.

I don't pile on after a loss often but that was pathetic. This one less at the stopage, play it from our back half game in nonsense.

How often does the ball come from an opposition kick in go straight through the midfield like there's no one there? It's going to cost us a shot at it this year. Really poor game plan

Stick a fork in us we are done, will only be making up the numbers, could be worse though we could have won a meaningless game last year and lost out on Reid

The 2021 cup is in the trophy cabinet and there's no asterisk next to it.

We have been exposed as not a real flag chance.

A shame.

Midfield was flat footed again

Who do we have banging down the door?

It's a worry

I think most of us had an inkling about this and our team this year.

Performances like that make you wonder whether you renew a membership...

Over reaction 2021 was no fluke. You always need a bit of luck to win one. We've been up for 3-4 years but I think we are not contending this year and will need changes to be able to contend

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
