Dazz, I didn't see any of the game, but how did you rate Jeffo?

His tackling and intensity was a lot better then I've seen this year. I'm hoping it's all starting to click.

I would have like him to have stuck a few grabs but his intent was certainly there.

I haven't written him off as some have on here, he's obviously a kid that needs time and more physical progression with his body.

He's played 26 games in the VFL. Talk to someone like Paul Roos and he'll tell you that the right development for a young key position player is certainly to bide their time in the reserves and build up as much experience and good habits as possible. It won't be an issue for me if he stays I the VFL for the rest of the year unless he completely bangs the door down.

I doubt he plays this year but next year should be the aim for him to play at least 10-15 games at senior level.

Definitely not.

McAdam is the enigma.

He played a full game last night. Didn't do much but then again few players did. Coaches would be closely looking at his positioning, ground coverage etc.

For those who subscribe to the belief that the VFL is no longer a useful training ground for key players* this wouldn't be a bad game to try him out. Rest Chandler.. play McAdam and sub in Woewodin at half time if McAdam can't get the ball.

* Frankly I have difficulty working out what role the VFL plays these days. Like us Carlton's VFL team is currently a cellar dweller so the old adage of being strong at various levels no longer applies.

Assuming he’s available, do we put the Salem to midfield experiment back on the agenda?

I think Trac needs to spend far more time up forward as he’s a natural forward who will get plenty of looks each game. But we’re robbing Peter to pay Paul.

Hopefully Yeo and Waterman stay out for another week. They would be two of the Eagles top five players this year. I doubt they'd risk Yeo with a groin strain, while Waterman apparently had a hamstring niggle to go with the concussion.

Yep, I think so - he should be told that he's not going back to defence again this year. Focus all his attention on being a midfielder.

Salem would get smashed in the midfield better back in my view

Shadow of himself before injury must prove at Casey

I didn't think anyone stood out last night. I am not convinced Fullerton is a ruckman but Roo certainly struggled against the Carlton rucks. Not sure the the Eagles have the same ruck strength.

AMW was very wasteful and I wondered at one stage if McAdam was out there. No one really stood up and demanded to be selected.

Bowen will be better for the run he looked to take time to adjust to the pace. Honestly, we lost by a point and there weren't any passengers in that last quarter. Only change if injured

Reckon Viney might be playing with limitations.

Shoulder keeps bobbing up every week.  Is it impeding his ability to hit into contests as hard as he usually does?

And that's a real worry for us as Jack's our main first use extractor.  You limit his ability to do that to his optimum and we're gonna suffer at the coal face to get first use and clear as often.

Out.   Chandler.  Jogging. He’s clearly injured.  Clearly.

 AMW IN !!!!

Out.  Turner.  One good game then lost as a forward v cats and lost v blues.  Natural defender.

MCADAM IN !!! (If fit)

I actually thought Turner was pretty good, provided a foil and led well.  We haven't had a second young, agile, tall forward in years - got to give him time to settle in.

It's actually ridiculous what they've let the VFL become / how it is treated - probably deserves its own thread!

My "expert" view is that Turner should be sub with Billings being dropped as well as Chandler as he is not fully fit.

I would bring in Fullerton to support Max and rest in the forward pocket. I would also drop Woey (for now.. prefer him above Laurie actually.) for more experienced McAdam. Granted McAdam did not have a good game against Carlton but feel we need more speed and support through the centre and I believe that's Tracks best position - centre or on ball.. Take Tracca out of the centre and we drop in performance. I would bring in Tomlinson at HB and move JB to the forward flank or wing or move Windsor closer to goal.  Just my view...

This week and next can see us consolidate Top 4 for now.

The results so far show GWS has beaten no-one of significance-  yes the Pies but they were rubbish in Round1,  and same for Cats.

Now both their slides commence having been over rated by the media.

Our 6-3 so far would have been grabbed by many on here if offered befroe start of season. Blues game had positives in many regards but showed problems that the MC have time to seek solutions. Some players due back also wil improve.

3rd or 4th is ours if we want it badly enough, and under Max and Viney et al that will be the case.

I'd like to think Ollie Sestan is a chance to bob up in the next few weeks. Smart ball user.

He’s got potential, but the inside word is he’s got disciplinary issues. Has been threatened with the chop a couple of times now. Nothing sinister. Just not interested in doing the hard, boring bits. Won’t see him anywhere near the Melbourne side until this gets sorted out at Casey.

In a year of 50/50 games I enjoy the occasional stress free win. This will be one I'm sure.

As the Pet Shop Boys used to say let's enjoy ourselves "Together" as we "Go West"...

Interesting comment. He comes from a very different background compared to the top kids who have been crafted to be a professional like Windsor. Hopefully he can turn it around because the talent is there.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
