Stu 1,073 Posted March 15, 2024 Posted March 15, 2024 Pies play Saints next week and then Brisbane at the Gabba. Will likely be 1-3 and maybe even 0-4… what’s the emoji for pure glee? 1 Quote

dees189227 12,512 Posted March 15, 2024 Posted March 15, 2024 Is anyone watching the fox coverage? Did anyone else see the clip that jordan Lewis showed where Sydney were running it through the middle and Lewis was highlighting the lack of pressure then the clip showed Degoey and Maynard giving each other a high 5 in the middle. Sydney kicked a goal from that If I saw 2 Melbourne players do that while the opposition team were running down and scoring a goal I'd be mad. 8 Quote
Fromgotowoewodin 1,606 Posted March 15, 2024 Posted March 15, 2024 Swans took 19 marks i50 from 51 entries, magic what happens when you move the ball quickly and create space. Impressive that they used the full ground. (Could just be the pies are cooked too..?) 2 Quote

zeldacat 53 Posted March 15, 2024 Posted March 15, 2024 Sydney not interested in taking clean possessions all the time. Very good at: hand passing out to space, tapping, jumping, punching the ball forward, gut running both ways until they get that clean possession that sets them up. They look super fast and fit. Did not expect them to do that at The G. We need to take the game on rather than play safe footy. Hoping to see some drive and flair against the Dogs. 3 Quote

Demon Disciple 12,536 Posted March 15, 2024 Posted March 15, 2024 Looks like the elastic band has finally snapped with the Magpies. 2 full seasons of playing the way they did was always going to be unsustainable, unfortunately they managed to get a flag during that period. Hunger and momentum are hard things to hold on to, we’ve seen us have it and then lose it. We need to get it again quick, or our window will indeed close. Quote

The handball, tap on get it forward at cost method was really noticeable wasn't it. It's actually what we are trying to do, so I'd disagree we're playing safe, at least in the three games we've played thus far. The tigers have played a similar model too in their four games ie lots of chaotic handballing and knock on with a focus on forward movement and swarming. Perhaps it's this years version of the Pies 2022 and 2023 fast translation from half back method with the same wave running and handballs, but with less kicking (ie Pies used aggressive, quality kicking to cut through zones - whilst still using hand to link up). What was impressive about the Swans tonight was they also kicked super well. That said, they had a lot of kicks under no pressure. Pies were gassed. Edited March 16, 2024 by binman 4 Quote

Dee*ceiving 1,738 Posted March 15, 2024 Posted March 15, 2024 We will have a better clue tomorrow as to if our efforts against the swans, on their ground, in tough conditions, with a makeshift forward line was actually pretty admirable. Seeing what they did to the pies last night, on a full size ground, does give the impression they are contenders. Exciting times for bloods fans Quote
