Tom Sparrow Re-Signs Until 2026

Discussing “Adelaide is/isn’t sh-t” is truly a national pastime.

I’ve told this story before but since when has that ever stopped me, amirite?! 😁

In 2020 I had to do two weeks of mandatory hotel quarantine in Adelaide. At 8am on Day 14 as I was leaving the hotel there were two cops guarding the exit. I said, “Hey guys, my flight home to Melbourne isn’t until 4pm. I’ve never been here (Adelaide) before, so since I’ve got eight hours to kill, can you recommend where I should go, places of interest, sightseeing etc.” One of the cops said, “Sure, we can do that, but what are you gonna do for the other seven and a half hours?” 🤣

Recon it runs a distant second to Canberra though @Mel Bourne.

Might I presume you sit on the side of "it is", QD?

Well, now that the Ralph rumour has been exposed for the BS it always was and Tom Sparrow has re-signed with the mighty Demons, I'd like to share a fascinating story I read recently about crows of the feathered variety.

Researchers for VicRoads found over 200 dead crows on the Western Highway near Horsham recently, and there was concern that they may have died from Avian Flu.

A bird pathologist examined the remains of all the crows and, to everybody's relief, confirmed the problem was definitely not Avian Flu.  Rather, the cause of death appeared to be vehicular impact.

During the detailed investigation, it was noted that varying colours of paint appeared on the birds' beaks and claws.  By analysing these paint residues, it was determined that 98% of the crows had been killed by impact with trucks while only 2% were killed by impact with cars.

VicRoads then hired an ornithological behaviourist to determine if there was a cause for the disproportionate percentage of truck kills versus car kills.

The expert very quickly concluded the cause.  When crows eat roadkill, they always have a lookout crow in a nearby tree or high vantage point to warn of impending danger.

They discovered that all the lookout crows could shout "Cah!" but not a single one could shout "Truck!".

Point of order #partypooper #pedant

but there are no crows in Victoria, they are ravens.

As a matter of fact there are not many crows in Australia.

Tell him he is raving.

I actually like it @Timothy Reddan-A'Blew. But don't tell other 'Landers that.

Your secret's safe with this Canberrophile, QD. Eight great years, including the birth of 2 of my kids.

I'll be back again at Easter, too, performing at the National Folk Festival: keep an eye out for 'Invy Horn Jam' ☺️

I just can't imagine a Sparrow amongst Crows. Having said that, a quick Google search will identify various books, movies and parables with both "Crow" and "Sparrow" in the title.

you'll not find a single crow in adelaide

you have to go well north of port augusta to find "little crows"

afc are imposters

And Viney's handball to Trac defied physics. What a magical passage of play that was!

I'm a lifelong Dees fan, but have lived in Adelaide for 20 years. Most of you may say unfortunate, and I'd agree that the city itself doesn't offer a great deal apart from big blocks, little traffic and is great to raise a family.

20 minutes to an hour out of the city and it is simply unreal. Adelaide Hills, Wineries, Restaurants, very few people and some of the countries best beaches.

Gets a bad wrap I think. Visit with a local and you will have a different view.

I also detest Adelaide Crows supporters. Not only do they have no idea about the rules, boo everything, and are horrifically one eyed, they are also unaware that the name of their team is factually incorrect. There are no crows at all south of Port Augusta (3.5 hours north of Adelaide). All ravens...........

Haven't seen many demons in Melbourne before mind you. Not before midnight anyway.

Anyway congratulations Tom Sparrow.

States have always had their nicknames.  Western Australians are known as Sandgropers, Queenslanders as  Banana  Benders, Tasmanians as  Apple  Eaters and so on.

South Australians are called Crow Eaters.  When it was time to name the new team, they realised that everybody would call them "crows" regardless of any other chosen name so decided to stick with that nickname.

Further, facts don't seem to have much bearing on teams' nicknames.  You'd be hard pressed to find any lion, tigers or bears in Australia.  The presence of saints in St Kilda is also a matter of opinion.

Yes I know, but I love reminding them of the fact about the crows existence in Adelaide. They pretty much just boo at you because they can't really understand what I'm saying.

when are we going to start a breeding program and shack the boys up with the womens team to create a generation of superfootballers, born with footballs in hand?
im joking btw

Besides, that is highly inefficient - results in only half the total volume of eligible offspring.

Congratulations Tom and great job on extending. I honestly think he can be the future Viney engine room, and can’t wait to see him take the next step this year… and hopefully add another 🏆

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th
