Correct, but it will be ongoing. He has got to be ready to deal with it and play well.
that may take time, i wouldn’t rush it

That's the poorest excuse I have ever heard of.

I think We played so well against Carlton I wouldn't be tempted to make changes. Just Clarry for Pickett who is suspended.

I would play Fullerton as the sub.

Yep. But i am not saying a word

Clarry has got to be both mentally and physically strong to be part of the team. 100% ready for 2 hours of heat

You don't think he would have copped it at VFL level? He's ready to play and he's the quality we need to replace Pickett.

As far back as Rory Sloane you mean?

He drafted Gawn, that in itself just about wipes the slate clean.

That’s not so from all the press or even what Gawny has said.

If Oliver is fit enough to play footy and is available for selection, he plays AFL. Simple as that.

You think so?

Don't understand the calls for Clarry to not play. Even if he produced 50% of his normal output it would still be better than anyone else you put in for him.

What are all the possible reasons why Clarrie might not play against Sydney?

Clarrie plays, pretty sure he's used to people tuning him by now.

Agree Slarti.

There is more to this than just his football performance and those that know best will decide if he plays.

Those that would appear to know best have said/implied that multiple times.

On pure footy he would appear right, on his other issues I wouldn't have a clue.

I was out last night & one of the speakers was Brad Scott. Of course the first question Caro asks him was about culture at clubs  & cited MFC & all our “off field dramas”. He answered it very well saying culture is literally a day by day thing. You work on it every day ..he has some extremely talented players who don’t necessarily embody the right “culture” so they have to work on it. He then said he would never criticise Melb & he heard Max Gawn (who he said is an icon incredibly talented..exceptional etc) & Max said “Melb has a great culture (paraphrasing). He then left it at that. That kept Caro quiet. The other point he made very clearly is that unless you are inside the club no one has really any idea what is happening. So my long winded point is ..we have to trust everybody around Clarry to make the right decisions. We simply don’t know all the facts & that is fine by me.

Swans were ordinary last night

Can't wait for Gawn to take Grundy to the cleaners and Viney ruffling up JJ

You would play him at 50% over the young blokes (K Brown) no offence

I have no problem with the concept of Opening Round showcasing a couple of "blockbusters" in a non-footy state. They should have just called it Round 1 and just had 10 teams with a Bye and move on. It just makes it so confusing.

Or called it the Claytons round - the Season opener when you aren’t having a Season opener

My suspicion is that the AFL has an ongoing promise to Richmond and Carlton that they will play the first game of Round 1 every year. And the AFL has found a way to stick to that promise.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
