There are no milestones for our Round One match vs Dogs. This means we have the entire front of the banner just for Gus.

We welcome any and all suggestions for banner content.

Note: one of the AFL’s rules is no insulting opposition players/clubs on banners, regardless of whether or not a player’s career has been cruelly cut short due to the deliberate action of a filthy thug… of course, that’s just an example.

We’ve had the suggestion of a minute’s applause (standing ovation) at the 10-minute mark of the first quarter.
We’ve also had the suggestion of as many as possible cheer squad members behind the goals wearing a Gussy-style helmet.

These are just two examples of ideas that are welcome and that I’ll put to our esteemed DA leaders, along with banner content suggestions.

Let’s show Gussy how much we love and respect him!

A standing ovation at the 10 minute mark sounds good WCW.
Maybe we can all light a cigar at the same time like Gus did in the middle of Optus. They won’t be able to kick all of us out for smoking.

Great idea WCW. Love to do it on Kings Birthday though!

Don’t worry, NC. We’ve plenty of time to sort that… and LOOOOONG memories.

No words WCW, just an enormous picture of Gus’ helmet with a premiership medal draped on it on the banner and we all know what that means.

I hope that at least one of the players (Gawn or Trac my picks) will do a golf swing celebration after a goal in tribute to Gus.

As for Dees fans I think the 10min mark 1min applause is a good idea.

Could it be... is this the time... to bring back the bugle?

Maybe a cavalry charge call at the moment in the third quarter when he took the gully catch in the grand final ;)

10 min mark applause isn’t great as anything could be happening then. Let’s just get him to present Max with the Premiership Cup at the end of the year 🏆

Just a red and blue helmet, with black where the face would be, and two eyes peering out of the darkness.

"GIVE EM HELL"

I like the cigar references, but a simple image of an onion could also work.

The cigar premiership pic with "Thank you Gus" would bring a tear to my eye.

“Words cannot describe our gratitude to Gus.

We’re coming for you Collingwood, like Jake the [censored] Muss”

Whilst I love the sentiment, I just can’t see the Club nor the AFL letting that one through. 😅

While I believe any of the suggested examples would/could be good suggest the DA work in with the Vlub about its intentions on that day to honour him.  I would think he would be offered a motorcade or walk around the ground at half time.

At sometime Gus highlights  on the scoreboard should be shown if he is honoured with the half time respects.

Certainly the 10 minute clap is a popular one and banner tributes both sides perhaps if possible.

Club  should also promote It as a Gus Day and some item be chosen as a tribute or T shirt for fans all ages.

no pressure but it’s only 3/4 weeks away!

Great idea WCW, like other posters have commented, is it possible to include on a banner?

The tribute should be on KB vs Colling wood

Just a big pic of Gus and some stirring words

Good to see you back.

How about just “Gus Thanks”.

How about all the supporters on KB wear jerseys No 10 Thousands of them

How about we all jump the fence too.

Sorry got a bit carried away there.

Good idea Kent.

Great work, WCW 💙❤️ A picture of the 2021 Premiership Cup with Gus's helmet resting in it/off it? Some onions or cigars wouldn't go astray either 😅😁

For the Simpsons fans...

That bugle is to be never seen again

We are certainly working with the Club to make this a Gus Day.

The T-shirt idea has been put forth and (time permitting) seems like it could be a thing 🤞🏼

Unfortunately, unless the Club can work something out with our partners, there’ll be an ad on the other side of the banner. Regardless, and weather permitting, we hope do a ‘show’ - raising the banner, lowering it, turning it, then raising it again so as everyone gets to see it.

Thanks for the ideas, 58er

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

  • CASEY: Williamstown

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

Narrm time isn’t a standard concept—it’s the time within the traditional lands of Narrm, the Woiwurrung name for Melbourne. Indigenous Round runs for rounds 3 and 4 and is a powerful platform to recognise the contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in sport, community, and Australian culture. This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

  • AFLW REPORT: St. Kilda

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
