Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Has there ever been a ruckman that has been better than just ok while still growing?

A very good point.

And there's perhaps no better example than the best ruck i have seen play - Maxy.

Interesting comments on KFW. He’s a young kid who hasn’t played much footy and it shows. But I’ve been told by people who know him just how dedicated he is to achieving an AFL career. His body is bigger than last year, he’s taken serious time off his 2km time and he’s much more involved at training.
The club will have to assess whether he has the skills to make it but if they think he has he could be a very good long term prospect. It may take him another 3 or 4 years to get there but he’s a big boy who shows good agility and would be a cheap long term investment as a category B rookie.

One thing for sure, he won’t die wondering if he could have made it.

No-one seems to have mentioned it but KFW has not only height advantage, he probably has the best leap of anyone to go with it.   Just needs to learn to accumulate possessions - he was only getting it 3/4 times a game last year.  If he has bulked up, he won't be pushed away and the possessions will come.

LDC count myself amongst you, but we are a disappearing breed. Perhaps the Gideons could co-dispense dictionaries. Wide reading l have found does encourage independent thinkers.

A very good point. Most of the work rucks do is around the ground as opposed to the centre square (80%?) where relative strength is a huge factor (and height).

KFW was getting pushed around at thrown in and around the ground stoppages at Casey last year. That will happen less and less, particularly because there's not that many mid twenty ruck behemoths running around in the VFL anymore with so few stand alone clubs.

So he'll get more taps - and more contested marks too for that matter.

Good to hear some thing out game plan seems to be at a faster pace.

We seemed to love for the ball to head into our defence, flood it and then go quick to our forward line leaving opposition defenders nervous and not organised in Our premiership year. That has change in the last two seasons. We took way to long leaving other teams to do exactly what we did to them to us.

And then I elaborated in the collated reports thread with ...

Instead of Daicos, he may be closer to Nick Blakey running HB, at least for the start of his career

Correct, he is a developing kid, just learning the caper.

I’m excited about Billings. Gun junior who struggled in the poor environment of the Saints. I reckon he might prosper with no expectation and with our superior program.

No doubt his skills are excellent. just needs the right environment

This far too simplistic in my opinion. Demonlanders trot this out nowadays in the hope that recruits will magically become players they weren't at their old club. Billings' old coach runs our football programme for one! That same Saints environment never stopped the likes of Steele and Marshall from being great players.

Billings' problem, aside from constantly breaking down has always been a lack of pace, and his ability to win the contested ball. He's also a double grabber.  However, given space he can be very dangerous and his delivery is excellent.

Saint supporters were always frustrated that his form seemed to improve dramatically in a contract year and he ended up getting paid far too much for the output he provided.

I wonder if Harmes and him being in a 'superior programme' all this time will automatically make him a star at the Bulldogs?

a star? i just said he might prosper/do well. The Saints have had a poor culture/environment for years imo. Even with their golden generation they couldn’t win even one flag.

A more professional environment and less pressure of being pick 3 i reckon he could do well with his skills providing his body stands up and he put the work in

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
