You have just perfectly described the mess aka our game plan.

For those following at home who still persist in suggesting this really ISN'T  our game plan....but just a less than stellar equittal of what is 'supposed' to be our methodology I'm affraid that's  not the case.

What is...IS

We've essentially been playing slightly altered variations of this style for quite some years now.  If it was supposed to be anything else it would have been amended by now. That is hasn't,  that this dross and criminally wasteful durge continues  must suggest it's by design...i.e it's condoned therefore...IS .

We'll NEVER win another flag unless we stop this stupidity and play with more direction, more verve, more flair and more skill..   Need to play clever footy

Hopefully we may get glimpses of something different leading into season 24....   if we don't.....meh....god help us

It can't be assumed that we won't be addressing the issue of our forward line connection

So, I'm assuming that we will be addressing the issue because we have to

But as @rjay correctly pointed out, long kicks into the forward line has its benefits if we're able to retain possession on those long kicks.  And whilst all that is happening the opposition aren't scoring

But that system is no longer going to work against the good teams in my view so we need to change tack

But again, sometimes we don't have a choice with long kicks in as the midfield is often under pressure.  In those situations, kicking to a 1 on 1 instead of a pack (or the left forward pocket) would be preferable

So if we have better schemes at the centre bounces and stoppages, we'll have a much better chance of delivering the ball with more efficiency to the forward line

So it starts from the midfield (and also from half back on the rebound or from turnovers in our favour)

Whilst the fwd line is a bit of an issue,

Has anyone looked at our efficient when JVR, Fritta and Petty were playing?

I believe it was actually pretty good with just JVR and Petty, cattle makes a big difference.  We have been crying out for a second tall since 2021 as T-Mac hasn't been able to keep his body together.

I do agree though we need a new fwd line coach.

Well done to the football club for putting this out, maybe there has been a reaction to member / supporter reaction. For me though this needs to be the minimum standard. We get some great training reports from the demonland community which are much appreciated but I would love to see something from the club “ The Richo Report” which gives a rundown on training from their point of view, especially the closed sessions without giving any obvious secrets away. Something along the lines of the link that trav14 posted yesterday to afl ratings report which was brilliant.Just take that member / supporter engagement to another level.

With the recruitment of McAdam we have some serious weapons down there now. That forwardline will benefit greatly from speed of ball movement where I will back them in one on one but they need to be given the opportunity. Other areas also need to be fine tuned like leading patterns, blocking to give the bigs separation for a lead. Smalls being front and square etc.

We can go to our default method of slow and wide as a source of game management but quick ball to a forward line with system to allow the forwards the best opportunity to do their thing before our opposition get numbers back and also our allow our mids and backs the ability to set up behind the ball for repeat entry or at worst a stoppage.

It’s just a slight tweak to put more value on the offensive side of our game. With our recent recruitment it suggests that we will be doing exactly  that and play more attacking football but ultimately the proof will be in the pudding. I am looking forward to seeing a more attacking Melbourne in 2024.

the line coaches etc are only there to do Goodwins bidding.
He ultimately must change how we play. The assistants only follow the game book.

Indeed, here lies the problem….

The argument advanced by our glass is half full followers is that in 2023 we played a slightly more elasticised version of the game plan but the reality is that the final thrust forward was still to the forward pocket.

And of course there was our very secret kick out strategy

Whilst you can bemoan our kick out strategy I’m pretty sure I’m correct in saying we had the best or near best % of goals scored from kick ins. Happy to be corrected and join everyone else who sighs every time May kicks it to the same spot. In fact I think I’d quite enjoy that as it’s just so easy.

I think if Petty, Fritta, Kosi and JVR are fit and in form delivery forward will improve immediately. Those players have huge talent and have good leading patterns and positioning.

Plus Billings.

FD on top of what the shortcomings have been and traded in accordingly. Much as we love our mids, none of them are great disposers of the ball.

By foot, terrible.

Via handball, very good

Am I the only brave soul venturing out to Gosch’s this morning? Y’all better hope not coz otherwise don’t expect a detailed report, or any report for that matter. I mean, I don’t know what’s going on half the time (I cant even distinguish between Petty and Adams, including when they’re both here) and I’ll probably be distracted by my Gosch’s Gals, a trio of teenage girls who insist on making me “check out Rooey! OMG he’s so hot!” 😁

Your previous reports although quite original were quite adequate and entertaining

Agreed. Viney needs to focus on handball first and only kick if required. If he had done that in the semi final we win. FYI I love Jack just needs to know his limitations.

… and gumboots and umbrella and plastic sheet to place on wet bench. This ain’t my first rodeo 😉

Our illustrious DA boss just asked me to watch Lachie Hunter closely. It’s a shame it’s not Rooey who has the calf issue coz I’ll be doing a lot of watching Rooey 🙄

Would love to get some updates on our up and comers. Bailey Laurie, Taj Woewodin, Daniel Turner, Koltyn.... who you think could be in line for games early on

Prey tell me who he was going to handball to? Not Petracca who was at least 40m away near half forward. Who???
