2024 Preseason Training Thread

Featured Replies

When are they back training at Gosh's paddock? Looking forward to doing a report.

I spoke to Christian Salem’s dad last week who said that Christian was training that morning.I didn’t ask where! Big help l know !

On the same topic I also spoke last week when in Melb to Christians Dad while  at their very popular North Rd. Cafe.

Very encouraging report on Christians health and fitness. Let’s say he is winding back his  effort after a huge start to balance out the pre season. Is well above last 2 pre seasons and back in 2021 territory.

Let’s hope he can return to that as he was very instrumental in our success as part of that superbly tuned backline that kick started our attack. We need that back again to connect down field successfully in 2024.

Good to hear. The cafe is called Northpoint - at the beach end of North Road Brighton.Just been renovated.I believe Christian is a part-owner - with his dad?

was in North Point 2 weeks ago, and dint know

Training resumes on Monday, January 15th at Gosch’s.

Coincidentally that’s when my leave finally starts and I’ll start sinking cans like a madman.

It was hard NOT to know in 2021. All through the finals series - and way beyond - the joint was decked out in red and blue.

One of Christian's brothers also has a cafe in Church Street Brighton towards the Nepean Highway end. The premiership cup turned up there one time. The family resemblance is unmistakeable.

Why wait?

Incidently when does training start at "Slithera City"?

This is when training officially starts.

Most of the players have chosen to train privately in the meantime. For example, Fritta caught up with Salo a couple of days ago and they went for an early morning run on the beach.

The players know what they can and can’t do in terms of training because they run everything by the Club beforehand.

They get plenty of holidays for professionals

Except they don’t. It may seem that they do, but in reality they don’t get much “free” time at all. It just seems that way from the outside. Even in the off-season they’re very often attending charity events, visiting sick children in hospital etc. You’d be very surprised to know how much time is devoted to behind the scenes stuff that they do. Even during their downtime pretty much everything they do has to be approved by the Club. I’ve said it before, the Club owns them.

I’m guessIng Wednesdays will be at Casey, commencing on January 17th. Anything I hear from my all-things-training go-to guy I’ll post on here. 👍🏽

The other cafe is in Bay Street, North Brighton and is called Rock Salt. Very well run place too.

The Salems have sold Rock salt and have got the lease on a new restaurant opening up in the newly built Life saving club at Dendy St beach.Brighton.

Told by Christian’s dad Alex last week.

Opening in a couple of months.

Thanks for the correction. Clearly I don't know Brighton as well as I thought.

The Salem family have sold Rock Salt and it is now under new ownership. A mate went recently and wasn't impressed with the new setup.

Let's see how long it takes for that information to be available on the Clubs website.......perhaps the work experience kids aren't back in school yet?

You mean the SLSC with the temporary fencing that’s taking forever to build?

Yes - l think the initial builder went belly up and they had to find another one

Obviously separated at birth.

It's Game Day on Friday night. ANZAC Eve. The big stage at the ‘G. Under the lights, in front of a packed house, this is where moments are made. Can the Dees rise to the occasion and deliver on the big stage, or will Richmond spoil the night? All the build-up, discussion, and in-game reactions here. Go Dees.

  • PREVIEW: Richmond

Who would have imagined, when the season kicked off early last month, that Melbourne would emerge from the opening six weeks with wins over both Queensland powerhouses? At the time, Gold Coast and Brisbane were the competition’s early pace-setters, the flavours of the month, and the prospect of the Demons toppling both within the course of a fortnight seemed remote. Yet here they are, banking those scalps alongside home victories over two traditional Victorian rivals and building a quietly impressive resume.

  • REPORT: Brisbane

Before Sunday, the last time the Brisbane Lions had walked onto the turf of the Melbourne Cricket Ground, they celebrated the pinnacle of the sport - an AFL premiership secured in emphatic fashion for the second consecutive year.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

From the outset, the Casey Demons lacked any spring in their steps. They were out-hustled and out-bustled and finally outplayed by the Brisbane Lions by 38 points on their home turf in perfect conditions at Casey Fields.
