Christian Salem Hamstring 2 - 3 weeks
Charlie Spargo Achilles 3 - 4 weeks
Jake Melksham  Knee 6 - 8 weeks

Can't wait for Bowser's return. Hopefully he's back for Carlton.

I am actually very impressed with Milkshake's  recovery. I thought he would only be available for Finals.

Bravo WCW you called Bowsa for the Blues game and Selwyn just confirmed it.

He needs an op but won’t have it!

What sort of operation? He doesn't have a ruptured Achilles tendon.

Yes..VFL

Looks like Salem will  be available post the Eagles game.

Fingers crossed for no more injuries and that would mean best 22 available

Salo is not far off, either!

Once we get Bowza and Salo back - provided everyone else stays good, we're looking great.

Bonuses are McAdam and Melksham later in the year, as options for certain games.

I’m convinced Shane McAdams is growing a new hamstring in a lab

What sort of shocking condition did he come in from Adelaide where he was managed by Burgess?

That’s the problem As I understand that he did not go with Burgess advice and took matters into his own hands. This resulted in him only playing about 8/10 games as he “managed” his own fitness or had other advisors.

I believe his base would be very low and that’s why he had the need of a third of the season to help establish his “Melbourne “ base.

If we were to name our GF team 5 months early I would be leaving out Shane as the most likely to miss because of injury. Seems a nice bloke ( according to WCW ) but who would you back in Kolt or Shane for HFF in the Granny?

Something is not quite right in the state of Denmark ( Shane Mac) although I desperately want him to get a good string of matches and perform for the team as he has ability to be a huge X factor I believe.

Injury List: Round 9

Jake Bowey — shoulder / Available
Josh Schache — Achilles/ Test
Christian Salem — hamstring / 1 - 2 weeks
Charlie Spargo — Achilles / 2 - 3 weeks
Jake Melksham  — knee / 5 - 7 weeks

Bowey back would be a bonus for this week. Missed 7 weeks with that shoulder injury. Assume he’s been running over the last few weeks to maintain fitness.

Should Brayshaw and/or Smith be included?

can't think of a more irrelevant or misleading stat.

things that people do to get a click ... sheesh

Brayshaw definitely...Smith perhaps.

Re Charlie Spargo, it seems to me that he was injured late in the pre season, and came to opening round with no match fitness. He was clearly underdone and probably carried an injury into OR. Did we make the situation worse by playing him? Certainly he contributed nothing to the team that evening.

He was put on the injury list after that game, and was listed as 3 weeks in early April. A month later and he is still listed as 3 weeks.

If all goes well from here maybe he gets one Casey game in before the bye, then it is probably July before he can push for senior selection.

If I was a player in that situation, particularly given the depth in my position, I would be absolutely furious as to how the injury has been managed.

That was one of the weirdest selections, probably since Schache sub!

Felt like the coaching team panicked on that one.

Injury List: Round 10

Christian Salem — hamstring / Test
Josh Schache — Achilles/ TBC
Jacob van Rooyen — concussion / 1 week
Charlie Spargo — Achilles / 2 - 3 weeks
Daniel Turner — Calf / 2 - 3 weeks
Marty Hore — Calf / 4 - 6 weeks
Jake Melksham  — knee / 5 - 7 weeks

Charlie S  played so well in the 2023 finals, I think they wanted him back asp.

Those injuries are piling up again.

Sure, Salem aside they are on the 18-26 level of players but the tank is running thin when you add in Brayshaw and Smith as well

Realistically only JVR and Salem are best 22 locks, and both will be available within a week or two.
The sky is definitely not falling yet.

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.
