Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

I’d hoped due to our almost non-existent young midfield depth that they might have earmarked Tholstrup as one who’d eventually move in there.

Had a brief chat with Jason Taylor today at training and asked him whether he thought that’d be the case.

He ummed and ahhed for a while and eventually said “yeah, maybe”.

Was less than effusive which I was a bit disappointed to hear. But that aside, he’s definitely a player. I’ve only been to two sessions but you can tell straight away.

How's Windsor look in comparison?

For anyone interested in the TT numbers, the watches give an indication.

My best guesses based on which way they set them up;

Nibbler at 3:10/km through 500m

Sparrow at 3:12/km through 1.02km

Tommo at 3:07/km through 0.99km

Good going when carrying the frames they do

Was nowhere near as prominent but during the mid-forward transition game was involved in possibly the best play of the morning - got the ball near centre, changed direction and then went long with a 55m kick that just got over May's head and into the arms of the intendee McAdam who had to dive backwards to reach it, such was the depth of the kick.

He doesn't have Kolt's swagger, but he looks classy - but he may have to wait a while to grab a spot on the wing in place of Ed.

I suspect he will also have to work hard on his defensive game - the stars at junior level often don't have that area covered initially.

Yep this would’ve been almost my exact reply.

He’s not as developed physically as KT but one thing he does have is blistering pace.

Agree also that he just doesn’t have Tholstrup’s aura. It’s not just the hair, he has a real presence which is extremely rare at 18 and having known his teammates for 5 minutes.

And to keep Werridee happy, here's our Rd 1 team based off today's session (and the one I saw last week as well).

Overlooked because not training with main gp yet: Fritsch, Petty, Oliver, Pickett, Smith.

Assumes Sydney will name three talls up front with Logan McDonald, Amartey and McLean - hence T.Mac is named to play on McLean.

B: McVee May T.Mac (Turner or Hore if Swans go small)

HB: Rivers Lever Bowey

C: Billings Sparrow Langdon

HF: Kolt Fullarton (or Ben Brown) ANB

F:  McAdam Van Rooyen Spargo

RU: Gawn Petracca Viney

Int: Brayshaw, Salem, Hunter, Woewodin sub: Laurie

Clarry is a fellow redhead. We dont perform well in the sun

I hear ya B! I struggled just being there, let alone moving a muscle. 😁

Incidentally, ima take credit for Clarrie not ending up sunburnt. I went into full mum mode. Told him to reapply frequently, which he did. Told him he missed a spot. Everyone laughed but I was dead serious. He had in fact missed a spot, until I made him aware of it. I also told him not to make the rookie error of forgetting the top of his ears. I swear, it was like he was new to this being a ranga thing. He was a bit of a smart-arze, he put a ridiculous amount of sunscreen on the top of his ears and said, “is that enough?” But seriously though, he coped as well as everyone else, ie. they all looked spent at various points. Three hours of high-intensity training in full sun would knock anyone around, ranga or otherwise.

Might’ve been the way you asked the question or JT not wanting to give much away. JT after the draft was pretty clear, but there’s no rush:

Tholstrup was the second and final player to make it to the Demons on night one, the WA-based forward set to bring strength and personality to Melbourne’s line-up.

“He’s a great character and a powerful medium-forward,” Taylor said.

“We’ve got no doubt that he can, at some point in his career, go through the midfield [as well].

“He’s going to add some real quality, both as a person and as a player…we can’t wait to get him down.”

Said the same thing on the Demonland Podcast too.

I like to think of Taylor as a horse trainer. He's not in the business of giving stuff away, particularly to fellas who sidle up looking for intel on the new colt.

Pre season training. I remember it at our suburban footy club. Tooronga Malvern.  Started about now but definitely not this intense.  Usually an hour of running then hit the showers and off to the Malvern Vale afterwards for a Parma 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Tooronga Malvern, now that brings back memories.  I used to live up the road from the ground and would walk down and watch some games.  I remember a high flying young forward Michael - nickname Flathead kicking a lot of goals.  I thought he might have been good enough to play VFL at that time but never eventuated.   I can also remember the homeless gentleman George who slept in the bushes at one end of the ground.  Thanks for bringing back those memories Spirit of Norm Smith

So we shouldn't be trying to judge anyone then ?

Haha asking whether someone might go through the midfield eventually is hardly asking for the nuclear launch codes.

If you think he’s going to be more candid on a publicly available podcast listened to by thousands of people than he is to one supporter watching training with his 2 year old son, then that’s your prerogative!

What a nasty thing to say. Yes, I know you’re entitled to your opinion, but so am I, and in my opinion your attitude stinks.

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
