He will get his chance in the next couple of weeks to show what he can do against real opposition and not some glorified circle work at training - we all know there is a very big difference 

I’m bullish on Caleb and have likened him to the great Robbie in the way he runs, side steps, handballs and even kicks - is he ready to contribute meaningfully early this season I have no idea yet - if he can it will be a big bonus

Rods Dillon was another with a vice-like grip when it came to marking ... but not a great kick for goal

Parke kicked 63 goals in 1972 but his kicking action wasn't great.  But just like Dillon, he could take a great grab

Either would be more than handy right now!!

JVR reminds me of Hardeman a bit but Gary played his best footy as a CHB.  I reckon that JVR can be quite a versatile player so if he spends the year as a CHF, we might see that versatility in terms of him bringing other players into the game

I have been wasting my time on AFL stats going over these halcyon years, and the abysmal kicking of these two.  If either Dillon or Parke could kick straight we would surely have made a couple of finals appearances in that grim decade.

The popular opinion was that our talent levels dropped off alarmingly because our zones weren't very productive (zones came into being from 1963) 

The way around the zones was to bring in interstate talent but apart from bringing in Tilbrook, we weren't really a player like say, a team like North who seemingly had an endless chequebook

Bombers, Hawks & Blues brought in loads of interstate talent as well (more so in the 80's)

Nobody really replaces anyone come round 1 - pretty much a clean slate except for a core few (Max, May, Tracc, Ollie when fit, ANB)

I can certainly see him as a key back taking over May's role in a couple of years. Could be as effective as Moore.

Can't see it at all. JVR plays more like an excited Labrador with intensity and aggression jumping around the place with reckless abandon. Doesn't really seem like the type to direct the play and teammates behind the ball. Lever will step up and be that person for the next 7+ years imo. Just put some big athletic bodies around him. Edit: And of course Petty can eventually go back (if he stays) and be our May with Jefferson and other mid and small sized forwards earning a permanent spot in the future.

Howes & Hore are both 191cm (6'3" imperial measure)

Surely one of them can nail down a spot down back and could either of them play forward?

Tomlinson is 194cm,  Adams 196cm & Turner is 194cm

So plenty of height but can they play?  We know that Tomlinson is more than handy as a 3rd backman

T-Mac & Petty have made the transition forward so surely 1 of the 5 aforementioned can do the same

Fully agree. Stan Alves was Captain, Rep player, B&F. Absolute champion & I never saw him take a backward step.

Why would someone denigrate one of our champions ?

Mono what are you saying clean slate? We have multiple injuries but no one ready  to come back in probably.

More common than we could imagine in those days - particularly at Viccy Park. Yes, my melee incident was minor but it hurt, it offended, it surprised, it disgusted several Demon supporters (I got a can of beer to make me feel better from one nice bloke in red 'n blue) but at the end of the day, it felt dirty, diseased, bacterially tainted after a short tussle with the smelly Filth offender and set a lifelong tone about that club and its supporters - still held today.

I was at training last Friday at Casey and was super impressed by Windsor, he has got all the skills and does remind me of Whitfield, as someone commented on earlier. 
it was a closed session and a bit more tactical than normal and the boys were a bit more willing. 
Don’t ask me for a run down because I spent a lot of the time inside and missed a lot of the session. I did pay particular attention to the Duke. 

Glad this thread is now finally back on track, after wandering through the fuchsias, tulips and broken glass along memory lane.

From dee-railment to re-arailment. 

What excites most is there will some new blood in the team, with young Caleb & Co clamping at the bit. Could be some real beauties out there with the beginnings of the changing of the guard.

Just having watched the last quarter and bit ( from 44 pts down ) and gaining our Minor Premiership in 2021 I could just see the Duke running on all pistons  and being involved in a comeback like that, He has the skill momentum and attitude to be a major player in his career. His bold football and possessions will be impactful.

Whether we see a lot of it in 2024 I don’t know but I look forward to hostile in our next few years on the wing,

And his partner in crime Kolt will be a 15 possession game changer who will do in do the tough acts and play keeping the scoreboard ticking over. Again every touch worth its weight in gold. Again how much this season don’t know but  looking forward to whatever he does as it will be vital and impactful. 

And I know it’s even a longer straw but I very much have the feeling that Kynan Brown will also be a major player in our future. Why? Because the kid bleeds footy and the red and blue and he’s already exceeding our expectations. His will is like Clarry’s indomitable and you need players like this in a champion team.

Dont underestimate what  these 3 draftees will bring whether in ‘24 but if not ‘25 and after. 

We need a lift from some newbies and others are also in with that opportunity to put the dare back in our play like in 2021. Do that and the will like vs Cats in 2021 and again vs Lions in 23 can make us great again when th going gets tough.
