Tholstrup at the 2028 best and fairest night, touched to be finally acknowledged as the best midfielder-slash-forward, and not the other way around.

Did the rules only change for the one season? Because the year before Mac Andrew the doggies took Ugle Hagan as an academy player with pick 1!

After JUH they changed it to 20

Then after the saints got Owens and Windhager it went to 40

We do but I take your point.

Pick 78 isn’t going to cut it sadly.

I like our two picks. Sometimes as a supporter it is a case of distilling down who you don't like. I have reservations over Sanders (lack of explosive pace), Caddy (in between size for key forward), Curtin (a tall flanker who didn't impress me in Colts GF), O'Sullivan (thrashed by Croft in championships).

I had reservations with Sanders as well. Seemed another busy type midfielder that we have a few of.

Can already feel the howitzer aiming at my head..

We need speed in the midfield and we got it

We needed another mid/fwd and we got it

Hard not to like it, fingers crossed they come on

We got 42 as well which we probably won't use.

I was more disappointed to see him go rather than hope we were going to draft him though. Could have been useful and wouldn't have been unhappy if we took him at 13.

We traded 42 to the saints before the draft started for their future third rounder.

We traded pick 42 for a future 3rd near the start of tonight.

What’s most clear to me is that we got two players we rated really highly - and that’s the most important thing

I’ll take JT’s rankings over Fox Footy’s any day of the week

I do hope the Collingwood childrens' farm is still running - - somewhere local for KT to hone his skills.

Can anyone explain why we couldn't pick Mac Andrew as a Melbourne academy player last year, when gold coast are allowed to pick 2 academy players in the top 10 this year?

The AFL, like God, moves in mysterious ways.

Can only go by what we see in highlight videos but really like what I see in both Windsor and Kolt.

Both likely types who have the attributes to end up as permanent midfielders. Windsor likely to start further up the ground while Kolt likely to start forward.

Great to see that both have genuine speed and can use the footy well. Some of those forward fifty entries from both of them were a sight for sore eyes.

Plenty to work with and here’s hoping that both can be 200+ gamers for the MFC.

Pretty happy overall, was hoping we could trade up for Duursma but wasn't to be.

Glad that we've retained our future 1st as well.

I reckon both kids will play some games next year.

I am annoyed Moir went to Blues.

I would have been happy with any other club.

Just a bit nervous he may turn out to be very good.

Hopefully not.

Our two look ok, here's hoping.

Would have liked to get Watson, but happy with the result overall. I’d expect both to be good players.

There’s soemthing really heartwarming in knowing the Eagles weren’t able to anything else other than use pick 1.

And they missed out on the local boy Lance Collard by one pick

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Essendon

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
