“I got the feeling..” was in reference to the conversation I had, not poor grammar.

But yes, the club knew/knows how important he is to our structure and know they can no longer rely on Brown and McDonald.

From the discussion I had, I think there is an agreement between the club and Petty that we will do the right thing by him, if he agreed to stay for another year while we are still in that window of opportunity….and yes that is most likely due to the fact Adelaide weren’t able to offer a like for like replacement.

They believe once Petty is fully match fit and McAdam is available, the forward line will be firing.

Thanks @Beetle, I missed you're original post re a source, but I wasn't trying to suggest you were wrong either. We've got a track record of dealing fairly with players and trying to seek win wins, rather than looking after ourselves only. I actually think it's part of the culture we try to set off field, that makes us attractive for recruits. So I agree that if he really wants to go we'll find a way, provided of course Adelaide come to the party too.

The club are resigned to the fact now we will likely lose him at year’s end.

Petty gone, BBB and McDonald retired ... going to be "interesting" next year up forward.

No he’s a contracted player till end of 25. He wants to go so we’ll facilitate it. It’s going to cost the crows

No you say we will Roost it. HP may  not be of that opinion if things keep going and the Crows continue in free fall till the season’s end.

They look as far away from a flag and Nicks  is beside himself with no obvious method to get his squad out of its malaise.
And they are not only one players short but about 5 when Tex Sloane Crouch are over the hill.

You are probably correct in this scenario. At times, however, we seem to be placing far too much emphasis on full forward dominance where, to my mind oftentimes, we really need a gun CHF (or two) and dynamic, super-optimistic smalls like Kozzie prepared to run amok, go the screamer when plausible, kick the ball a mile with lethal accuracy and unexpected aplomb - from just inside the fwd arc or closer in to the tepid zone, not the hot zone in a constant pursuit of optimism. Our game and delivery systems currently best serve the 50 - 40 metre arcs from goal; we all have seen the absolute goal square and fwd pocket shambles for nearly a decade. Just a thought, coz a gun FFwd might do the trick (with appropriate variations in our delivery and receiving circumstances.

Who says Harry or JVR can’t play CHF as well as FF. Your post is confusing and overlooks the fact that I’m ONE year we won a flag. Our response has been disappointing but this year we hope to have all forward players fit and available for a serious tilt.

Hope you're correct and sorry about the confusion. Thanks for the comment.

I see JVR as a CHF rather than FF. If Petty does leave, it is worth noting  that Jeffo was marking like a champion ( but not kicking like one) at Casey today.

Humour my post-covid brainfog, please.  Are you saying that one or more reliable sources within the club said that Petty actually asked to be traded to SA?  Thanks in anticipation.

I’m saying Beetle is generally a poster who is accurate and if he is posting this I believe he has been told this by a club source

Source? Who says they are not offered a contract on a year by year basis?

Great to see Adelaide floundering for 2 reasons:

1. It might make Petty rethink being traded to them;

2. If he insists on joining them, it looks like we'll get a top 10 draft pick in the trade.

We will need a ready made replacement as well as a high draft pick.

If the offer of a long $1m a year or more contract is true, then given he is still contracted, the Crows know that justifies the price they will have to pay..

worth remembering that the crom will be looking to trade out of the pointy end of the 2024 draft as their father-son selection - tyler, son of scott, welsh - is likely considered a top selection

Adelaide screwed us to the wall for Lever

IF he goes it would be nice to return the favour.

Don't get this.

You wouldn't bat an eyelid if he left yet you're still wanting a first round pick?

Okay.

they really didn't

Funny trade looking back at it.

We sent out Pick 10, 2018 First Round and 2018 Fourth Round and in return we got Jake Lever, Pick 35 and 2018 Third Round Pick.

With Pick 35 we chose Harrison Petty.

IIRC Adelaide used those picks for Bryce Gibbs  which didn't exactly work wonders for them, whereas Petty/Lever helped us win a flag and now they're going to need to offer us some decent picks if they want to get Petty.

Genuine question, while I wouldn't mind cheaper, you'd have to say he was and is worth every cent. We bought a IWC not a Timex.

2nd question, did we do better with May than Richmond has done with Lynch?

Nothing to worry about until Goody says he's a Melbourne person which is code for we know he's out the door.

tigs in front with lynch vs us with may - 2 premierships to 1

it's subjective, but I thought May had more to do with us being good than Richmond gets with Lynch, on Premierships though... can't really argue, I would say if we swapped lynch for May I don't think we win '21.

they also got him 'for free' whereas we had to trade to acquire may

Ollie, he really stepped up a gear, didn't he. He has his critics, but you're playing FF for Vic Metro, you're no mug. Felt like a break out game where he started to believe.

In draft pick terms:

Pick 10

Pick 19 (2018 First Round) (pick 15 before academy and FA compo)

Pick 67 (2018 Fourth Round)

For

Lever

Pick 35

Pick 47 (2018 Third Round Pick)

Which is the equivalent of Pick 8 for Lever. A steal - even before you consider what each team did with the picks - if you ask me.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
