Reckon it's ripe for the Lions taking. They should belt a banged up Blues and will beat Pies or Giants in GF.

That's what I'm hoping for.

I'd enjoy watching GWS eviscerate the Magpies first though

They have an entertaining style of play

I am rooting for anyone either than Coll and Carl

Giants first

then the lions

whatever derails Gil’s Collingwood Carlton commercial agenda and causes that peanut McGuire to have an apoplectic fit

Twitter will be a delight if they lose - Justice has prevailed Eddie!

So it has come this.  I have to support Brisbane and GWS. The latter being one club I had despised since that smirking pr*ck Sheedy paraded Tom 'im only going up for a look' scully in a press conference.  I had begun to admire some of Collingwood but after having to sit near their band of orcish supporters whipping themselves into a frenzied mob a couple of weeks ago they moved back on top of the hated list.  Now joined by Carlton, whose supporters seemed to have one thing on their mind last week and that was to goad Dee's supporters into some reaction. They came down the aisle to wave their arms about, getting into faces and starting fights.  Watch out if there's a Carlton v Collingwood gf .. Then the media hopped on the bandwagon.  Please footy gods, do the right thing and have GWS play Brisbane in the gf and spare us all the local media hype garbage.

I would laugh so hard if GWS beat collywobbles.

Would be bloody hilarious.

Their social media use is the best in the business.

I would rather stick toothpicks into my eyeballs than support either Collingwood or Carlton. Can’t stand either team and their feral supporters. I heard some media [censored] on the radio over the weekend stating ‘Collingwood is everyone’s second favourite team now’. I don’t think so.

I sat through two Collingwood GF with my husband- Geelong and WCE and openly supported the opposition. I had to tone it down a bit but there was no way I was cheering Collingwood on on any shape or form.

TBH I don’t care if Brisbane or GWS win - as long as it’s not either of the two Melbourne clubs.

Wouldn't we all, but doubt it. I hear brown paper bags have been flying off the shelves at woolies.

Eviscerate, what a lovely word when associated this way

The Giants seem to have everything in sync right now especially their midfield. We shouldn't be overly surprised considering there's still plenty of good talent in there and guys who have played together a long time and know each other's game.

This has been Josh Kelly's best season for a while in my view and Coniglio who really fell off the cliff as captain is back to playing some really good footy. I also can't get enough of watching Tom Green, that's the player you want first if you're picking your side, game on the line with the clearance there to be won that's the guy.

I don't seek out former Melbourne players and actively cheer for their success but watching Jesse Hogan and the way he's going about it is bringing me a joy that I don't feel often in this scenario. He's moving well, taking some ripper contested marks and he seems to have got his set shot routine down nicely. Working beautifully with Bedford, Daniels and Greene when he gets down there.

Backline is ultra solid and it just shows how much they missed Sam Taylor during the season. Buckley and Himmelberg as well who hold their own in one on ones.

Hopefully Briggs gets up but apart from that I think the Dubs have a bit to offer in this prelim. If they start well and take their chances early they will be pushing the Pies all the way.

Agree, will head down the peninsula and go fishing

Despite not having fished in 15 years.

I hope so! i just can't see the Giants, off a 6 day break being able to beat the well rested Pies, with Daicos back in front of 95k rabid pies fans. if they can pull it off it'd be one of the best AFL wins of all time

It’s pretty shocking they weren’t given 7 days

Just read an interview with Bedford where he said he now feels valued and the team appreciate the small things he does - or words to that affect.

I still find it astounding that we put 7 years into Toby's development, only to let him slip through the cracks when he was on the cusp of a break out. It's truly painful given we could have done so more.

We have a surplus of small forwards, we were always going to lose one or two

Kozzy & Toby would of been the two to prioritise with AMW developing.

Totally agree, baffling we let him go.

GO GIANTS!!!  Hell yes on their bandwagon, few ex dees players I'd love it if we still had plus they're playing great entertaining clean fast footy, the type I wish Melbourne were playing more of this year...plus they can kick straight!

Would love to see the Yank give away a free kick with 30secs to go and either Jesse or Toby kick the winning goal that would be a payback for his knees jumping into Max

I just want to say I told you so. Not you, exactly but everybody. When the hacks in the media started on last year how Collingwood was everyone's second team because everybody "loves the way they play" I said that horse s%&t would not survive an afternoon's exposure to their supporters.

As for hating GWS and Sheedy, yep that was me too, but since the Stolen One's career amounted to nothing much at all I don't give a rat's anymore. I mean really, Tom Whathisface has no presence, is not much remembered except on demonland and had not much impact on the game. If he had stayed with us he would have something, some history, be a one club player with the distinction of helping us through hard times. In other words, he would have a home, but he is just another forgotten figure now. A nobody.

Nah...I want them destroyed in the manner of Sydney in last year's GF plus some. Give them a belting that will damage them psychologically for seasons to come.

There was a time during the current Melbourne cycle that goes back to before the premiership when the club was the toughest to beat in the fourth quarter. The Demons were not only hard to beat at any time but it was virtually impossible to get the better them when scores were close at three quarter time. It was only three or four years ago but they were fit, strong and resilient in body and mind. Sadly, those days are over. This has been the case since the club fell off its pedestal about 12 months ago after it beat Geelong and then lost to Carlton. In both instances, Melbourne put together strong, stirring final quarters, one that resulted in victory, the other, in defeat. Since then, the drop off has been dramatic to the point where it can neither pull off victory in close matches, nor can it even go down in defeat  gallantly.

  • CASEY: Footscray

At twenty-four minutes into the third term of the game between the Casey Demons and Footscray VFL at Whitten Oval, the visitors were coasting. They were winning all over the ground, had the ascendancy in the ruck battles and held a 26 point lead on a day perfect for football. What could go wrong? Everything. The Bulldogs moved into overdrive in the last five minutes of the term and booted three straight goals to reduce the margin to a highly retrievable eight points at the last break. Bouyed by that effort, their confidence was on a high level during the interval and they ran all over the despondent Demons and kicked another five goals to lead by a comfortable margin of four goals deep into the final term before Paddy Cross kicked a couple of too late goals for a despondent Casey. A testament to their lack of pressure in the latter stages of the game was the fact that Footscray’s last ten scoring shots were nine goals and one rushed behind. Things might have been different for the Demons who went into the game after last week’s bye with 12 AFL listed players. Blake Howes was held over for the AFL game but two others, Jack Billings and Taj Woewodin (not officially listed as injured) were also missing and they could have been handy at the end. Another mystery of the current VFL system.

The Demons head back out on the road in Round 10 when they travel to Queensland to take on the reigning Premiers and the top of the table Lions who look very formidable. Can the Dees cause a massive upset? Who comes in and who goes out?

Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.
