I think Carlton are a better side than Collingwood so we are going to have to make this hard for them.

I generally love everything that Max says, but hearing him on breakfast radio earlier in the week scared me when he said the group discussed their start last week and felt they were just a tiny bit off. They were way off and it was home and away intensity (barely) and it cost us the game. Any period of the game at that level tonight and its curtains for us.

I want to see Kozzy and Salem step it up tonight, there both integral parts to the side.

Kozzy actually had a better game last week than I thought he did. Was in everything in the second quarter and could’ve had 2 goals on the board that quarter had Fritsch actually applied a shepherd on the goal line to prevent Murphy from touching it.

Wonder if he has a 3-4 goal performance because you’ll know he’ll probably have 3-4 shots at goal.

Salem is grossly out of form and may be paying the price for his interrupted pre season and knee injury in the early rounds.

If we are Brave and take the game on - we win.

If we are behind and move the ball slowly - it’s 50/50.

I’m happy to slow it down with a 4-5 goal buffer, turn it into a grind.

Get it done.

Underwhelming changes, but the cupboard looks pretty bare. Anyone who thinks our depth is up to standard only needs to be refer back to selection for this week to see otherwise.

Surely Grundy has to be sub to give Max a spell from mid way through the third quarter, otherwise he will be cooked for the last term.

Spargo, Chandler, Langdon, Jordon, Salem - we have so many players who simply have to find a way to contribute this week.

Hopefully our senior players make a big statement in the first ten minutes and set to the tone for the rest of the game.

Hard to get massively psyched, credit to those who are but the deja vu of losing the QF and playing a semi again is draining even with a media blackout and people ribbing you about another potential straight sets exit. Not playing a scrub either, we're playing a side full of belief and 10 wins from the last 11. I don't like pumping up my positivity too much before these games because then you just start tearing your hair out when you aren't smashing them, this really is one of those games you have to just wait and see and pre game talk from commentators really isn't going to add anything.

At first I thought selection was pretty safe but going all in on Max with a toe issue worries me a bit. Sure we might have something up our sleeve but how often does Goodwin go creativity over system? De Koning was impressive last time.

Then there's Tomlinson, in my view three defensive talls would have been more handy last week than this week. Hopefully it frees up Lever to do his thing and we generate a lot more score from turnover. I would love Spargo to get at least 12 possessions in this game in the wing/HFF area.

I'm past the point of caring whether the method stacks up or not and do not want to be talking about missed shots at goal costing us the game. Make it work, hit them on counters hard, get more running open goals. The pass mark in win, not method. I expect us to take the game on and try to expose Carlton's backline with smarter decision making and fewer dump kicks. We need to start very well and get a lead in this game because if Carlton with their contest game start well it's going to be very hard sailing. There will be time to play the territory game when we've got a lead, I'd love to see us start how we did against Brisbane with fast movement and looking through the corridor.

It's also been a rough week that would have likely had an effect on the guys. I see two ways this will go, we use it as supreme motivation that you can take to the bank or I see them quite drained and deflated which could cost us. I'd honestly understand either way but man I hope it's the former.

Just going to enjoy a game of footy tonight with not too many preconceived ideas or expectations, desperately hoping it's not our last for 2023 the year of the Dee. Let's go boys!

Last week we dared to dream of a win and a Prelim and being flag favourites

This week we are on the verge of straight sets.

That's finals footy folks! Guess we are still not that used to it as fans. The players are paid to relish these opportunities and embrace the pressure. The pressure got to us last week and we kicked poorly inside 50 and for goal. We have the experience on the Blues, hit them hard for 4 quarters, keep ours heads. Screw our fwd line, it's been terrible all year and changed every 2 weeks.  I'll be watching for which MFC players stand up when the heat is on.

Do not yield! C'mon Demons!

Prelim against the finals chokers up for grabs!!

So it's last day of the school term today and instead of free dress, it's wear your footy gear day.

MFC supporters out numbering every other team in the outer east.  This is the future - I love it!

GO THE MIGHTY DEMONS!!

Hope we spew on them.

I'll be heading in quite early today to enjoy a couple pf pre game coldies. Perhaps I should call it a pre game celebration as I'm extremely , highly, fully confident of a win!

There has been a lot of criticism of selection but to this I say 'bah" - we could play the drovers dog at CHF and still beat these pretenders.

Prediction - All over at 3/4 time.

Wish I had you confidence, I agree we have the ability, pleased Tommo is in down back.
Tmac at FF , he does not need to move all that quick, a bit of weight, bring the ball down,   I think tracca needs to play more time forward And let JJ or Kossy have a go in the midfield.

a bit surprised Salem still in. Great when he is on but he has been NQR for about 8 weeks .Hope he plays well.

and fantastic it will be dry night, no rain I mean.  Have not seen a finals win at the G for far too long. Tonight’s the night !

perhaps ,      GO DEES !

The Footy Gods were never going to let us have an easy comfortable finals, but I'm hoping the team have been hardened and motivated by the horror of the last week and are on for the first, of three, steps to redemption and the holy land.

I'm visualising a energised and prolific Demons coming out tonight and putting a collective shiver up the spines of both the Lions and the Pies, while putting the Blues to the sword.

Go Demons

Seems to be a Carlton intra club going by the media.

Also we have umpire #22 so #freekickcarlton will be in full effect.

Amazed that Razor can't get a gig because he can't bounce the ball.

There are 3 others out there that can handle the bounce.

There aren't that many bounces in a game now and Razor is one of the better decision makers IMO.

We'll be up behind the DA helping with The Noyz, @buck_nekkid, though I'm taking a similar attitude to the game as you, @layzie: to watch it and enjoy it as a game of footy being played by my team, with as little eye on the end result as I can muster. While the best that can happen will be so great to experience, the worst that can happen is the boys will be there to watch and enjoy again in 6 months' time (with the girls, for ditto, in much of the meantime, btw!) Get too caught up in end results and I  miss too much of the watch and enjoy.

Now, off to practice...

MEL-BOURNE! 👏👏👏!

I'm going to be interested as to whether Cripps and Pittonet are tasked with going the heavy in the early stages - try and distract the D's who may be on a short fuse or hypervigilant about protecting each other.

Need to avoid being the first team in the current finals system to go out in straight sets two years in a row.

Wild to think we haven’t won a final since 2021.

Even more wild to think we haven’t won a final at the G since 2018

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
