People ask why he turned is shoulder mid air... (face-palm).

If anyone on here has played any level of football or contact sport for that matter, you will understand that when the body is in a vulnerable position and you have little to no time to think, you're going to brace to protect yourself.

He will get off because it will be deduced that he had no other reasonable choice when in mid air.

How this gets past people is beyond me.

I'm not blaming Goodwin, but we always seem to have the same conversations after these losses. You can't win them all but tonight is up there with our loss last year against them in round 20 I think it was, and the Brisbane SF loss. Just filthy losses that you need to quickly move on from, but also can't because they are such bad games to lose. But we are like the fourth oldest team in the league now and we are badly wasting this opportunity.

Spot on. It’s what kills me as a supporter, and a Demonland member. I know I’ll come on here and a few pages into the postgame someone will post the expected scores and I’ll be furious all over again.

We simply have to work far too hard for our goals, and it’s been a problem for us under Goodwin for his entire coaching career. He’s a great coach, but he hasn’t valued forward craft and skill enough and it’s hurting us badly.

He’s not the reason we lost, but Jack Viney will be disappointed with himself tonight. 0 clearances. 1 tackle. Is that the first game in his career where he hasn’t had a clearance? He’s usually a frothing maniac when the pressure is on. Tonight was a huge let down when we needed leaders to steady us. Hope he has a huge game next week.

He used up all his energy fighting with Maynard after Brayshaw went down. I thought it would fire him up but it had the opposite effect

Nobody is arguing this action. It’s when he decides to turn his shoulder instead of just blocking with his hands or twisting to avoid serious contact that’s the problem.

But they are though?

Some on here are saying he jumped to intentionally bump straight away when his first intention was to smother the ball.

One side says leading with the shoulder, the other says bracing for contact.

It is extremely hard to choose the most perfect action in a split second especially in the air. If you could do it better, more power to you.

To hell with Maynard. He’s the mro’s problem. We need to find some kind of forward connection otherwise the semi will be another tough slog

I think we've worked it out fairly quickly the ones who haven't played contact sport/footy....

Will Fritsch be Ok in time though? He's clearly hampered by his foot injury.

Can Kozzy be consistent in his performances?

We will be missing JVR at least for one week.

Who else can kick a score?

Petraca maybe... then?

Fritsch is fine. He just missed a sitter.  He kicked 5 straight last week - three after he came back on from his foot interlude.

Kozzy is Kozzy - take the good with the bad.

Tracc needs more time forward and that is where the Brayshaw KO hurt us the most. Sparrow, Oliver and Viney need to make sure that happens next week.  Clearly Jordon or Harmes will return for Gus.

JVR is in strife but in reality he was largely a non-event tonight anyway. Options are Smith, Fritsch, TMac and the smalls or Grundy/Gawn combo, or Brown if the knee holds up this week.  There are possibilities there.

My partner who barely watches the Dees pretty much said the exact same thing.

I think the moment also was when he got that Bronx cheers from Collingwood supporters when he shanked that kick on the boundary.

Certainly does to me...Screenshot_20230907_235340_Gallery.thumb.jpg.7ff0aa32593df600839cc7ce0f296ed7.jpg

That's the disguise, dazzle

The malice and intent was to then follow through and take the player (Brayshaw) out

To avoid body contact, Maynard needed to turn to the side (remembering that Brayshaw is unprotected)

This whole thing might be a legacy on how Daicos was taken out a month ago ... the Hawthorn player just ran into an unprotected Daicos from the front as Daicos was attempting the mark

And as the Hawthorn player wasn't cited, I then though we might start seeing similar incidents @old55 had the same opinion

The above image looks innocent, but what happened a split second later looked a little bit too obvious ... I smell a rat

He could easily have put his hands out in front to minimise the impact for mine and I think that would have been the better action.

Still am.

If we had lowered our eyes even 20% of the time instead of bombing it long to Darcy Moore we win.

Its one of the most obvious things in football and we fell for it, as we blazed away instead of working it short.

Dumb Coaching

Your seeing this attempted smother as a full on disguise?

Wow.. ok.

Collingwood actually defend their inside 50 really well. They have been off for a few weeks and they’re vulnerable on transition, but if it’s just bog average repeat entries, they’ve got 4 very good interceptors (Moore, Quaynor, Murphy and Howe). I listened to Sparrow after the game on SEN and the coaches were trying to get them to add more speed on the ball and different angles but we couldn’t execute as well. In my opinion, this game was extremely similar to QB. The only difference was that Fritsch nailed his set shots that game.

I’ve got no confidence against Carlton next week (if we play them). They defend their D50 better than anyone.

To think we’ve gone from winning a flag to staring down 4 straight finals losses is inconceivable.

Still genuinely shattered. This game tonight will eat me up for the next 6 months over the summer.

This is a guy with form. He’s done it before and he will do it again. Imagine being Gus’ poor mum!

Just stop trying to justify your pathetic comment wishing injuries on any players.

It’s just shocking and you should be embarrassed.

I get you’re angry but just switch off, and if you don’t regret your comments tomorrow then you’re beyond help

He's got his arms up and sure, it looks innocent enough but it's what happens a split second later that makes the first action a ruse

In my view, his intention is to take Brayshaw out and make a statement.  To put the Demons off their game and it worked

The arms being raised is the con

At suburban or country level that's 4 weeks (for the hit to the head)

He took him out and as far as I'm concerned, he did it deliberately

We're told that players must have a duty of care so regardless of intent, he has to get weeks by his own actions

His shoulder cannons into Brayshaw's head and knocks him out cold

4 weeks

Shattered. Long bombing it in the f50 along with dreadful kicking has me near indepth depression. Lose next week and it wll be hard to overcome.

I think Maynard maybe gets 1-2 as contact was shoulder to head, maybe gets off - chook lotto at the mro is beyond my understanding. No real beef with it, he was in the air and didn’t have any way to stop, unlucky for Brayshaw and really stuffed our night early as Laurie wasn’t sighted.

As for Cox, he tried to do Trac’s knee, is a known grub and can snap both ankles as far as I’m concerned. Low human.

100%. He just blindly believes that if we do all the ‘other’ things right, the score will take care of itself.

I love the heart our boys show, but [censored] me we make it hard work to score goals. Goody needs to wake up and realise that kicking goals is what wins games, not prevention of stopping opposition goals. We need to look to score. Our attacking nature of 2018 is all but extinguished. We need to get some of it back.

Goody has gone way too defensive-minded. I want to see excitement and flare thrown in to the mix.

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.
