The FD donโ€™t care about 8 slots deep in the draft.ย

I applaud it - we get [censored] done in trade period and itโ€™s because we value outcomes and not sweating the small losses and wins of an individual deal.

So you are suggesting that our round one forwardline will be:

JVR (backup ruck duties also), Fritsch, McAdam, Smith, Kozzie, Chandler, ANB.ย
Thatโ€™s dynamic for sure, but our field kicking will need to improve markedly because only one maybe two of those players has a remote chance of taking a big contested mark.ย

Unfortunately the highlighted won't be in our round 1 side.

Yep, I remember, what a load of horse [censored]! While that shoulder plunging thug is walking around with a premiership medal. What a wonderful system the MRP is.

You are suggesting we have Petty and Melksham both on crutches in the goal square?

Heโ€™s kicked a goal in 80% of the matches heโ€™s played.

Heโ€™s kicked multiple goals in 42% of the matches heโ€™s played.

Heโ€™s a good target inside 50 with four or more marks taken in 62% of the matches heโ€™s played.

He also applies defensive pressure in the forward 50 with three or more tackles laid in 60% of the matches heโ€™s played. As a comparison, Pickett is at 61% for this stat.

Wonโ€™t be a world beater but a fairly handy addition to the forward line and worth a future 2nd in my view.

I think Petty may well be ready for round one but if he isnโ€™t I think it will be:

One of Brown, Fullarton or Schache (back up Ruck), JVR, Smith, Fritsch, Chandler, ANB, and one of Laurie, Woey or Spargo

(I forgot Kozzie is suspended, or blanked it from my memory)

Who are you replacing? Do you really want to only have JVR as backup ruck and no true tall forward when heโ€™s rucking?

Clearly weโ€™re drafting McAdam to play, I donโ€™t have a problem with us getting him, but heโ€™s replacing someone in the forwardline Iโ€™ve just listed and the only options I see are Smith or Fritsch. I donโ€™t think we will go small. I donโ€™t know enough about him to know but is he an upgrade on those two? Thatโ€™s my confusion.ย

I guess I was wondering whether a player decides he wants to move to Melbourne, picks a club (ie us) and then his management approaches us and says would you be interested in player x?

And averages about ~50% of games played per season in the last 4 years, or around ~30% this season.

It happens sometimes. Taylor Adams just did it and I think Jordan Lewis approached us in 2016. It doesnโ€™t get to the trade request point without some reciprocal discussions though.ย

Future 2nd round more than fair. Thought a future 3rd round or one of our current picks 42 or 47 would be about right.ย

I stand corrected. Sounds like Hawks arenโ€™t super keen on getting Gunston back despite a trade request.ย

Didn't he want a 2 year extension and only got an offer of 1 from the Hawks.ย

Then dished em for a longer offer from the Lions.

Now he wants to return again.ย  What the.

Future 2nd is overs for an uncontacted 28 year old who has played 50 career games, played 7 games last year and is borderline best 22 for them.

I'm happy with the offer from us because it's a fair and reasonable offer.

Theyl trade will go through because it's more than fair and Adelaide's demands "we want a player" are unreasonable and also out of our control.

Iโ€™m guessing theyโ€™ll want Chandler, who theyโ€™ve chased before.

Their interest in Chandler was before they had Rachele, Rankine and Pedlar playing well.

We know who they want. They want Petty.

Sadly, this pursuit of McAdam has backfired spectacularly on us.ย

We got F3 for a younger Premiership player, who has played 3 times the amount of games.

F2 will get this done, they are just making us sweat because of Petty staying and we got 11.

It would happen sooner if they found someone they wanted from another club, otherwise it gets done by Wednesday.

Because Pettyโ€™s going to spend the next 2 years (if heโ€™s with us that long) attempting the toughest job in football (key forward for Melbourne) knowing heโ€™d rather be sitting at CHB for the Crows making 7 figures next year then 800k after.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kateโ€™s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwoodโ€™s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.

The Casey Demons issued a strong statement to the remaining teams in the VFL race with a thumping 76-point victory in their Elimination Final against Williamstown. This was the sixth consecutive win for the Demons, who stormed into the finals from a long way back with scalps including two of the teams still in flag contention. Senior Coach Taylor Whitford would have been delighted with the manner in which his team opened its finals campaign with high impact after securing the lead early in the game when Jai Culley delivered a precise pass to a lead from Noah Yze, who scored his first of seven straight goals for the day. Yze kicked his second on the quarter time siren, by which time the Demons were already in control. The youngster repeated the dose in the second term as the Seagulls were reduced to mere

This week, suburban footy returns to the infamous Victoria Park as the mighty Narrm take on the Collingwood Magpies at 1:05pm Narrm time, Sunday 31 August. Come along if you can.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasnโ€™t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's ย six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his teamโ€™s unfulfilled potential rang true โ€ฆ well, almost.ย
