One subject is the wet weather. The poster thinks this will be to our advantage. Funny.

At the moment, Sunday evening the forecast is from a computer.

Dare I say it, some of the contributors are knowledgeable.

Obviously never watched us play in the wet.

This gem from the Collingwood board:

“Given this year's scenario, why not have Cwood v Port at the MCG?- Cwood get advantage for finishing top and Port still play an interstate final. Brisbane v Melb at Gabba - Brisbane get home final and Melb don't get any advantage”

We will win by about 3 goals but always nervous when Elliot plays.

As you should be.

He kicked a combined 7 goals against us in our two losses to them last year.

This year he missed our Kings Bday win against them.

It may happen in the future - the top team chooses their opponent. NBA is flirting with that idea. I can see the merit.

How is the idea meritorious?

Who would be first choice to cover him? Hibberd, McVee.

No mention of the fact we kicked 18 behinds last time we played them. The margin should have been +6 goals. A lot of excuses from Pies fans on the KB game. Completely ignored we were without 6 premiership players that day

I sincerely hope the NBA isn’t flirting with the idea.

But, yeah here’s an article from 2020

I choose West Coast

Elliott is exactly why I want Hibberd playing. Our best 1 v 1 defender for the smaller forwards.

I think McVee will be perfectly suited to Ian Hill given his form on the 175-184cm small forward.

Some serious consideration would be given to Hibberd, however Hibberd played both games last year against Collingwood and Elliott ran riot in both games.

You do realise the last time Hibberd played on Elliott was last year round 21 and Elliot taught him a lesson and kicked 4 on Hibbo right...

So many are so fixated on Hibberd playing when he's clearly just about done as a footballer. Goody not playing him in a full game since Geelong where Gary Rohan also taught him a lesson is why he hasn't been able to break in.

Some serious lack of respect for McVee who's done the big jobs on the likes of Dusty and Charlie Cameron.

He'll play on Elliot and do the job just fine.

It's no disrespect to McVee, everyone loves him. Hibbo has serious credit and apart from being injured occasionally has shown no sign he is past it, i.e. the Richmond game. For sure he has been affected by injuries and this has impacted his stats, which are down about 20% on his averages for us.  But his ability to shut down a good small forward is still elite. I am quite happy with McVee rebounding along with Rivers and Salem, as their disposal is better and Hibbo keeps being an excellent stopper a'la the mighty Nev Jetta.

To further the reward for the top team and to avoid similar situations like the Pies having to play us when 2 more preferable teams finished above us. In the NBA there are some teams that have injuries and then their best teams come good and they scrape into the playoffs. The Lakers won the play in tournament and Le Bron and Davis smashed through the 2nd seed Grizzlies from 7th. Memphis would have picked the injury riddled Clippers instead and advanced.

Again, I wouldn’t necessarily make this my first change when I become the Emperor of the AFL (all power be upon me), but it has merit.

And Hibbo's declining the same way as "might Nev Jetta" was in his last year.

You're simply not replacing him from anyone from our back 6 unless there's an injury to our smalls.

As it stands, 1 plays 4, 2 plays 3, 5 plays 8 and 6 plays 7. From a match up perspective, there’s nothing unfair or untoward with those match ups (particularly looking at it from the Minor Premier’s perspective as they get the lowest finishing top 4 opponent).

The main issue is the Preliminary Final matches. If all favourites win in Weeks 1 and 2, the Qualifying Finals opponents essentially reverse, meaning in theory the team that finishes 2nd gets an easier opponent than the team that finishes 1st. This is all for the purpose of avoiding repeat match-ups from the Qualifying Finals, which is somewhat farcical. It’s at this point that either the Qualifying Finals match ups should arguably be repeated, or at the very least, the team that finishes 1st (or is the highest ranked side) gets to select their Preliminary Final opponent.

We've waited a long time to smash Collingwood in a final. This is going to be brilliant.

Let me guess.

We are the best in it. We’ve been faking this poor form. We wanted other clubs to think we are not good. Fly will have us playing a totally different game plan. They only beat us because we were sick and missing key players. We will win the flag. Melbourne are no good.
I got my day released approved. I sold my last tooth for a ticket.

There's probably a run on bolt cutters at Bunnings this week. Those ankle bracelets apparently aren't too hard to remove.

Awesome. Let’s make AFL fixturing even less equal!

While we’re at it, let’s just make the trade period permanently open so the rich clubs can trade guns in each week to play the opponents of their choosing too!

Modern sport changes for the sake of change and supposed excitement are braindead. How good is the stand rule?!

I can literally see Victoria Park right now and apart from dog walking and early morning PT sessions they aint saying much..

Sorry but Elliot would run rings around an ageing Hibbo with dodgy calf issues

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
