Gives the Suns time to strike a deal for the other two picks

GC probably have the same philosophy as us. Get a deal done early and move on to the next one.

Plus these discussions would have been going on for weeks.

10 and 17 are of interest if Gold Coast had them from the Dogs for 4.

Same basic scenario, though not quite such a premium pick.

Would a future first and a collection of our points-effective second-rounders do the job?

1 X top 10 and 2 X top 20 picks (second one could be high depending on dogs season next year) for pick 4 is a high price IMHO. Id prefer the 3 picks. They must be really keen on someone and think that we are keen on them as well.

Agreed, I think the market is a bit skewed at present. No current player is generally considered to be worth three first rounders of any kind... but unproven top draft picks are. Strange to me. We would have received less for Oliver!

Think I read somewhere the Dogs are keen on Watson.

Dogs are paying overs; they must be very keen on someone.  It’s also a strange move as they’ve commented on the difficulties of building their list after having to use so many picks on JUH and Darcy.

I hope we go hard for GCs new pick 10.

Not sure how we beat the Dogs offer of Picks 10, 17 and Future 1st?

If that’s what they are offering they are just plain stupid. Pick 4 is not worth that much at all. My guess is it’s 10 and F1 and we can definitely beat that with our collection of 2 and 3rd round picks and a F1.

Well it’s 2 for 1 since they have a father son they want to get a pick before, if they wait till pick 10 they probably have to use it already. So they can afford to pay overs

Using next year’s R1 pick is the concern.

Sure but I don’t think even in dogs worst fear they would end up with a pick 4 next season so they are effectively paying next years 1st and alate 1st round this year for pick 4

Assuming croft nominates them, which I'm sure he will, it's a smart play.

Libba feeds it out to Smith

Smith handballs to Bont

Bont drives it inside 50

Naughton brings it ground

Watson roves, snaps, goals!

Bulldogs trail 112-184....

Depending how good Croft is its not a bad trade for both parties.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
