POSTGAME: Rd 23 vs Hawthorn

We lifted our rating after half-time like a good rowing crew. Reckon this is part of the plan to have everyone still pretty fresh until the last game of our season.

There was just a few moments from Laurie which made me notice the hard attack on the ball - pity we are carrying so many small forward / midfield types.

No guarantees in 2024, but give him another few games - looks like he just needs a few more senior games to get the pace of it.

Their players are like their coach. Arrogant and absolutely filthy. Carrying on like absolute pork chops for a bottom 4 side.

I'm surprised they don't tackle with their knees as Mitchell often did.

Apologies to Jake Bowey but he made some rank mistakes the last 2 weeks. Needs to be better than that. Schache a strange sub.

Welcome to my world.. he does good stuff... but geebus... some clangers ..imho..

Not my first pick

Biggest callout for me wasn't even how we played. It was the support from fans. Reckon we out numbered them 3:1 but they were way louder. We didn't make noise until Petracca's goal which was the last goal of the game.

Agree. He's always had a lot to work with and was a fairly dominant junior (admittedly his size was less of an issue there). Looks like a player that needs continual exposure. Unfortunately for him he probably goes out if Fritsch returns

If Joel Smith kicks 2 goals a game from now on we'll we alright.

Liked his work today, as well. His 'defender' skills in the forward line are consistently handy. His goal kicking contributions are tough and moving towards 'reliable' with some great shots. With the emerging criticality of the finals rapidly approaching, he might be predictably in line for a chance to 'really shine' up forward.

Thoughts on Laurie's game?

Used it well but defensively was poor.

A bewildering call to sub Schache on for Tomlinson. I understand they didn’t wanna not use him, but FMD we are lucky it didn’t cost us.

Tomlinson played well. Schache has no urgency.

Great game from our core players.

Lever, Brayshaw and ANB battled hard and were top three, for mine.

Laurie seemed to find his feet as the game progressed.

Sparrow worked hard. Didn’t always make the right decisions, but did some important stuff. His strength is an asset. Rivers has become consistently solid. Love his work rate.

Langdon and Hunter did their jobs. Hard running and skills on display. Hunter does find ways to get himself into trouble though.

McVee is the quiet achiever. Love how his game is developing.

Viney didn’t have a standout, but I’m still so glad he’s out there week in, week out.

Maxy had a fairly reserved match by his standards, but my love for the big fella only grows.

Trac? Pretty weird game. Probably the most ineffective game I’ve watched him play. But not cause for any genuine  concern. Clarry? Hard tag most of the game. Those things work.

Glad our youthful forwards have an experienced player like Melk out there with them. Chandler was good. JVR a bit better. Smith, though no youngster, has surely worked his way into the starting squad now. Good on him.

A few things to furrow the brow. May and Salem both looked pretty sluggish. May especially, playing down a gear. Salem’s delivery has lost a little silk of late

Pickett needs some serious coaching guidance. He must get bored out there, watching his buddies play. I’d like to see him start in the centre again next week. Lord knows whatever system we have at the centre bounce is, in the words of Logan Roy, “fungible as f$&k”.

Bowey did some good things, and Bowey did some not-so-good things.   Tomlinson also showed moments of class, but gave his opponent too much  space, too often. He lacks pace.

Forward entries are still a bit of a Hail Mary. Kicking for goal was pretty dreadful at times. But my biggest concern are our sluggish starts. Are we trying to spread our energy levels across four quarters? Or are we simply too slow assembling our game plan?

think all but one of Bowey's disposals were turnovers or goals - he is a bit of a worry.

So he is a worry for giving up a goal...every player makes mistakes.

He had some shakey moments, as did Salem and Rivers, and many others. But all three played good enough games.

Your first point is nonsense btw.

Interesting that many wanted him gone and howled long and hard when he got a 2 year contract. Today he kicks 2 goals and plays well in defence as well.

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w
