I’ve just waded through 5 pages of the paper bagger’s posts. Surprisingly nothing obnoxious as yet. Mostly about selection.

Cerra seems a focal point with opinion divided on his availability

Is your Cerra in based on the info from DQ, or you have other little birdies?

Cerra in would be massive for our team.

Cerra won't play against Melbourne possibly week after.

There is some concern over the Petracca matchup

Can Noodles contain the beast that is Lasagna Petracca? He is bigger, stronger and faster than any of the players Newman has matched up against in recent weeks and he is undoubtedly the key to a Melbourne victory.

could Kemp take the Tractor?

Think Cinc is the way, he’s strong AF & can damage on rebound if Petracca doesn’t pay him attention.

And on our selections

With their injuries think Grundy might be a chance to return. Oliver hasn’t played in months so how match fit will he be? They’re hitting form at the right end of the season as well. Wish we had some options to lighten the load on Cripps, Doc and Charlie somewhat but we need them to give it all for one more game at least.

Game will be one and lost in the guts, like just about every other game these day's. Oliver will apparently be back for them.

Had a look on the dees thread, some are saying Schache will come in for the injured Petty. Tomlinson and Hibberd are being talked up as possibleinclusions.

Melbourne just lost petty. No Fritsch. Grundy and brown the only two left to play key forward. I don’t think we need to play weiters marchbank and kemp. I’d drop marchbank for Boyd.

In General

Knock this mob off and we’d have beaten 3 of the top 4 sides……just saying.

IMO, Melbourne are the team to beat this year. They are quietly doing what they need to do. If we are to beat them, we will need some players back.

A good start would be SoS to assist Charlie and Walsh to go into the middle. This will be an interesting match for us.

This game looks to me now like a fifty-fifty affair. Coming down to the gee for this. Bring on Saturday night, I cannot wait.

PS - it is still mathematically possible for us to finish 4th. Double chance. Pies first up!

PS . While I have opened this thread, I will not be continuing with it as I am heading to Thailand ( for spiritual enlightenment ) tomorrow. A volunteer or volunteers are therefore required.

PPS. Perhaps @binman , my advisor on thread protocol could take over ?

Agreed. Considering the hammy was a repeat injury they’d be mad stupid to play him after only two weeks off.

🤣🤣 the beast that is Lasagna Petracca

How culinary standards have plummeted in the  Princess Park environs.

Lygon Street was once a mecca for good Italian tucker. And all that appears to be on offer now is noodles and mass produced domino's lasagna. Which has probably been sitting in the bain-marie all afternoon after the Rathdowne Towers pension day rush.

Bon vivants like Christian would prepare something at home for the family. Or pop out to Bellota Wine Bar for a late lunch or Centonove for dinner.

The menu choices may be something like this;

Starter: Antipasti Piedmont

Main: Salissiccia di carne stallone piccante con verdure di stagione. Aggiungere la salsa petracca. *

Dessert: Panna cotta con i berrries

Wine: Begin with Mamete Prevostini, Valtellina Superiore Riserva follow with Moscato d'Asti.

* Steer clear of the linguine con frutti di mare.

Edited by Tarax Club
* strictly for kardinia cats excuses anybody?

Petracca to play football thank you 😉

Guy's gotta eat! but chasing leather is the main go.

DEE fence I was going to add a moderation clause. Hopefully Tracc will abide by the club's dietary guidelines.

No idea who Noodles is, but I am sure he cannot handle the Lasagne

they love their pasta analogies

If you're heading to Patong, I managed some enlightenment a few weeks back, I highly recommend Suzy Wongs.

their supporters are deluded

In what way? You don’t think Blues are a chance, or you think they’re better than 50/50?

Personally, I think the Blues supporters should be pumped and confident that they can knock us off. They’ve won 7 in a row and normally play well against us.

If we turn up and play a full four quarters, we will win. If we start off like we did against North, they can certainly beat us.

I cruised the BF Blues board, annoyingly reasonable compared to most clubs, interesting discussion about balancing mid field speed with grunt, and acknowledgment that we have a fair list.

We are their biggest bogey side btw 8 wins in a row.

Also for those who are not filled in on Herbatron, I'll just leave this here, guy makes a really solid effort, (incl a clip of ANB sidestepping two Essendon players who collide (-;) I reckon he should make some clips for the front bar show, would suit perfectly .

Like a good nibling, I've followed Uncle BBO's directive, got on the hazmat suit and waded through the Bluebaggers' Big Footy forum...

The supporters keen on NEW Carlton...

Please bookmark this: WE WILL GO THROUGH THE REMAINING GAMES OF 2023 UNDEFEATED.
Response:  You’re a bit late to the party, but ok

Further response: 98% here thought we won’t be playing finals.  Just saying….

Our team is full of confidence & buying into a beautifully balanced gameplan.  Importantly - playing at the G, a ground we love in front of a massive Carlton Home Crowd.  The Oppo's have a dodgy forward line, devoid of quality marking threats - granted they have a few handy smalls!  They are spluttering along - behind Vs North for 1/2 the game last week.

Winning this would be one of the biggest statement wins this century. It would make us premiership favourite, or equal premiership favourite ... All the bad luck, all the things which have gone wrong all the injuries and all the bottom end finishes over the last 20 years, if any side is due for some luck it's us. Roll into the finals series with a fit list and all our stars available then good luck to anyone in stopping us.

And the unconverted...

We can't win!

Response:  is that you Stephen May?

Demons by 34 points ... Don't worry, all is not lost, we will meet them in the last 2 weeks of the finals and with our players back, it will be a different story. The winner of this game is almost premiership favourite

On intensity and momentum swings...

There was enough evidence to believe we can sustain the pressure and intensity for four quarters, but could the Saints? Turns out they couldn't.
Now I ask again, can the Dees bring the intensity for 4 full quarters? They bloody better, because we will.

Dees havent been flash in the last two games however having so much quality out against a bonafide top 2/4 side is going to be difficult but we are talking about the NEW Carlton.

Melbourne would have to play close to four solid quarters to beat us I reckon … they tend to fade in and out of games … I think we’ll jump out of the blocks quickly and they won’t catch us

Someone thinks Bigfooty is the only forum in town...

Judging by the measly 43 contributions to the game thread on the Melbourne board, I would say we can aim at making up a massive chunk of the crowd and spurring the lads on again.

Response:  Hoping for a big dump of snow at Falls and Buller this week.

Further response:  Due to their recent success, they now do ski season in August to be back by finals.

They mainly focused on their own players, but some fun posts are...

Must sit on picket and rough him up.  Put him in a cage with Crippa for pre game warm up ??

Up againt man mountain Gawn, some people want to drop Pitto for JSOS? No chance.

Gawn the X factor - Pitto to batter him fairly, but incessantly (he doesn't like that)....

Huge opportunity this weekend to cause havoc and fear in the top 4 teams' heads.

Stopping Petracca is not realistic, just hope he doesn't murder us ... Plenty of other things to consider against Melbourne, too. Gawn is a beast, so both TDK and Pitto need to be up for that. May could totally blanket Charlie, so he'll need to get on his bike and be selfless. Kozzie is electric and only needs a sniff and Melksham is the type to break our hearts - and has done it before!

Don't even know what's happening here...

One of the many reasons I hate Melbourne is because the West Perth Football Club, mortal enemies of my beloved East Perth the home of Chris Judd in his one sublime game for us when he was three classes above every other player on the ground and Syd Jackson have stolen Melbourne's God awful club song, I only wish I could be there on saturday, do some screaming for me folks and lets have a win.

On Oliver being back...

Hope he plays, awesome footballer and wish we’d gone through with the poaching attempt, but he hasn’t played for 3 months and just won’t be able to play his normal role to anything near his ceiling.
Just saw a clip on AFL360, he hasn’t completed one single training session yet. From his own mouth

Response: He literally couldn’t even put a sentence together.  He sounds like my brother after he tried to take enough acid to travel to another dimension.

Clayton Oliver is most likely back this week.  I honestly think he should switch codes to Union. The Wallabies need all the bloody good throwers they can get 🙂

Oliver might be back but has had a long layoff and might be nervous.

re the Saints v Blues game...

It was like Muhamad Ali taking punches against the ropes for the first 5 rounds, then comes out and unleashes his special combination punches for the knock out.  I am trusting we can do the same to the Demons.

My favourite...

Melksham also sees it as his God given right to ice games against us too. I fear he'll be up for that again.

I did like the comment that we go skiing in August so we can be back for finals

Ignorant comment from blues fans stuck in their glory days back in the late 70s

The bogan, blue brigade might, but we don't don't ski in july, August or September.

Last time I checked there's no powder in Japan, Whistler or Aspen then.

No, we ski in January or February.

But they're right about moving our holidays back.

For the last couple of years, my fam's annual sojourn to the Maldives has been in August. Long may the tradition continue.

Lol at poaching attempt for Clarry.

Bit like saying I wish we went through with the poaching attempt for Marc Murphy.

They are full of confidence.

Boy it would be SO sweet to pop that balloon on Saturday night.

Also LOL at the comment that we were behind against Norf last week. They were too against the Saints. Playing at Marvel not Tassie. And they had to play hard contested footy to win. We played 15 minutes of good footy then rested our prime movers in the last.

Me and my mate are going with two Bluebagger fans this week in MCC.

I don't want to just pop the balloon, I want to drench their faces with a firehose...

I can help but wonder how BBO is going at his Yoga Mediation retreat in Thailand

Just had a look through TankingCarlton.com and not much to report. The site is horrible with a navy background and blue text. No wonder they are so angry all the time

They reckon Boyd will be their only in

They expect their guns to come back next week, up to 6 players back in.  A lot of them are close and would play this week if a final.

Due for some luck? The team that has the equal most premierships of any team and who has been rubbish for the whole of this century because of own goals such as draft cap breaching, poor recruitment and even poorer choices of coaches? Give me a break. And give the author of that post a history lesson.

Should be a great game and lets make it 9 and counting.

  • NON-MFC: Round 06

The Easter Round kicks off in style with a Thursday night showdown between Brisbane and Collingwood, as both sides look to solidify their spots inside the Top 4 early in the season. Good Friday brings a double-header, with Carlton out to claim consecutive wins when they face the struggling Kangaroos, while later that night the Eagles host the Bombers in Perth, still chasing their first victory of the year. Saturday features another marquee clash as the resurgent Crows look to rebound from back-to-back losses against a formidable GWS outfit. That evening, all eyes will be on Marvel Stadium where Damien Hardwick returns to face his old side—the Tigers—coaching the Suns at a ground he's never hidden his disdain for. Sunday offers two crucial contests where the prize is keeping touch with the Top 8. First, Sydney and Port Adelaide go head-to-head, followed by a fierce battle between the Bulldogs and the Saints. Then, Easter Monday delivers the traditional clash between two bitter rivals, both desperate for a win to stay in touch with the top end of the ladder. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons?

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.
