Do you really want to risk him calling our bluff with Harmes and Dunstan leaving and taking 3 or 4 more years with us?

As long as it’s not silly money then I’d be fine with it.

Maybe our initial offer was 330. Maybe the best he can get now is 360. I’d counter with 375 and if he stays for that then that’s fine by me. If the other teams offer 400 and get us a 2nd rounder then at least we haven’t lost him for nothing.

Obviously all those numbers are made up but there’s a way to try to make sure we get compensated without blowing the bank.

Teams with cap space will compete with each other and pay overs to preserve their draft hands. Apart from St Kilda, who might have to trade for him to preserve their Gresham compo.

Heck if we really want to game the system and he picks Sydney then we could pay 200k pa of Grundy’s salary, have the Swans pay 200k pa extra for JJ and see if we can get an end of first rounder for him. That would be brilliant.

Not going to lose any sleep over this.

To trigger the higher band compo do you have to offer multiple years. If you offer say 1/2 year at mid level salary is that enough.

I like the idea of gaming the compo band. Everyone else seems to be doing it

The compensation is based on size AND length of the contract, and also based on age of the player - more for younger players so this works in our favour with Jordon.

Very different players and experiences, but the way some are overrating JJ reminds me of the way some overrated Frost on here, when many of us were saying we wouldn't miss him.

The same goes for JJ. He might have some handy games in the future, but he's no Oliver, Petracca, Viney, Brayshaw or even Sparrow.

Would you think then we'd likely get a latish 2nd round pick... which i suppose is beer money in any deals with others upgrading our pick(s) ??

Then why are 5 clubs rumoured to be chasing him, if he is a dime a dozen player?

He is no star, but he must be better than that.

Because they are not top sides with our starting midfield. He could not land a consistent spot even with Clarry out for an extended period. He had a great opportunity to show his wares without Brayshaw on the weekend and had no impact. He will have more players go passed him in the next 2 years. He will get his opportunity elsewhere to play more consistent AFL. I just hope wherever he goes their supporters learn how to consistently spell his surname.

One of the rumoured clubs was last years Grand Finalists.

Maybe they see something the MFC don’t.

Has neat skills and a decent footy brain. Not a Goodwin style player, sounds right up Longmires alley though.

Or maybe their midfield is thin?

Money ball type player too Adonski. Very much a Swans type.

I just thought it was a bit unfair to characterise him as a “dime a dozen” player.

Many on DL described Toby Bedford as a nothing player. Media now describes him as a vital cog in the orange tsunami.

I suspect that Jordon is not motivated by money but simply the desire to play regularly. The only way that can happen at Melbourne is if we get a spate of injuries. It must be very disheartening to be an often under-used substitute, which means not even getting a VFL run that week. If he goes, he is replaceable.

We are the "good citizen" club, I would like a bit more of boldness and dare to step against the likes of bully media, clubs like Collingwood and Carlton.

Bro, this [censored] is in your head - as it is with others.
Keep sprouting it out if you like. It’s defeatist dribble when examined pragmatically.
Cheers

The ones that play on a postage stamp sized home ground which would suit him well.

Come on Swannies, pay JJ 200k extra and we’ll chip in 200k for Grundy. Let’s get that end of first round pick
