Kozzi to love the wet weather in NT and kick 5

Hey, where are you going to watch the match?

I'm going to the Sporting Globe Richmond. Big screen, usually a few Demons there.

There's also an 'after party' with live music, presumably a bloke singing/guitar/backing tracks? I'll only stay for that if the Demons win ... could be as much fun as a barrel full of monkeys.

I know it won't happen, but I would love to see Goody just mix things up today.

• Bowey to a half forward and give us some clean delivery amd poise going inside 50.

• Midfield shake up. Get Brayshaw out of there and get Salem in a few starting centre bounce set up. The only one with poise and smarts around the field. Throw Kozzie in there just to give us a bit of speed and flair.

• Harmes to tag. Again, won't happen, but we're better team when he's fully locking down on their best mid whether that's Kelly, Congilio, or Green. Compensate for not having Oliver there.

Got Buckleys...  interesting ideas though 😉

I’d be happy if Goody even just did one of these.

I think Dees in a close one (around 10pts). GWS are playing good footy and I don’t think it’ll be a walk in the park at all with the difficult conditions.

can't see many of these happening

our entire game structure is built around our back half - i for one don't want two of our best ball users - salem and bowey - moved out of there

harmes hasn't been a 'tagger' for about four years

koz into the midfield mix is something that i thought we would see more of this year, but outside of rd 1 it hasn't really happened

Be nice if Goody got some ‘learnings’ from you.

BTW as a former teacher I cringe whilst I’m typing such butchered English.

Sadly, the game is not a good place to be around for English teachers lately.

Well , I don't want to upset the Alice Springs tourism people but I can confirm, it's a miserable grey drizzly morning.

And ... on that note ..... I'm heading off to find a decent bistro with the intention of consuming a huge breakfast.

Dees by 27 points !

That would be 4 pots of ale ,2 bottles of cab sav, finishing with a cleansing bottle of chardy.OH and a slice of vegimite toast for appearances

Thanks for the updates @Rod Grinter Riot Squad and @Bitter but optimistic.

History and evidence alone this year will say we completely struggle in the wet and fail to adapt to wet weather football.

Let's hope it eases up before the bounce.

I'm far from a renowned forecaster dazzle but from my observations it will be better this arvo!

Game at 3ish .... 40% chance of rain

= 60 / 40 win/loss

Being one of the worst wet weather teams going...looks like another coin flip with a likely scrape through win depending on what the gods decide to bring on the day.

Hope Melk is the sub

50/50 game today. As strange as it is, we’re not a good wet weather team. GWS have been good recently and their defensive setup has improved out of sight.

Hoping for a big game from Kozzy.

Would like to see Harmes played forward again. He’s a good mark for his size, applies a lot of defensive pressure and can hit the scoreboard.

Fwiw it's Goody's 150th game as coach for the Dees. Definitely deserves recognition regardless of how we have felt with his coaching of recent.

That is a phenomenal coaching record. 150 games for 58% win loss ratio and a flag. Absolutely brilliant!
Here is to another 150 games and at least one more flag 😉

I reckon too much is being made of us being a poor wet weather team.

I came away from the game last week thinking the same thing, but given I sat in it, and have had time to reflect upon it, we were ahead for 3 quarters when it rained, and lost the last quarter when it was dry... likewise against Port, we managed 7 goals in one quarter in the rain.

I think it's a coincidence that it rained against Essendon when we were dreadful and it was slippery against Brisbane, but again, we were off that night. I'm sure people will disagree.

It's more that our ground ball in defensive 50 needs to improve in all conditions. I'm fine with handball chaining out, because that's how we want to play in all conditions.

I suspect today will see less handball chaining and more kicking to contests as an over-correction.

FWIW, I'd much prefer chaining than kicking to contests. We can't really win on that front. People will complain if we kick to contests and get slingshotted on, and they'll complain when we chain out and potentially overhandball.

The less risky play is actually chaining out with handball, because if we do turn it over, we have players chaining that then turn to defenders and can hopefully prevent the score the other way. Whereas, if we get through, we're likely to have good 1v1 contests or free players ahead of the ball.

I'm fine with going to contests occasionally, but not every time. This was our problem last year. It's too predictable. I'd much prefer us to mostly chain out. What I'm surmising from the FD is they'd prefer the same thing.

Congratulations Goody. Hope the boys give you a great win to enjoy.

Just got a text message from the clowns at AFLNT, last year there were ridiculous lines to get into the ground, this year they have closed one of the two gates to enter due to the rain!

Oh yeah, they have also let us know that we can’t take umbrellas!!

Agree, will be a bit less [censored]

Standing and watching the captains run yesterday in the cold, has added another meaning to the phrase dedicated supporter. I can attest that the sausages were hot cheerfully served and plentiful. I shall be leaving the unit to trudge the 300m to the ground looking like a red and blue Michellin Man, and join other supporters on the hill (at the Grange tent...I hope). Of all the players kicking the ball around yesterday, Bowey impressed me the most, his bullet passes just dont miss.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.

The Demons return to Casey Fields (aka the Field of Dreams) this Saturday to host the Saints in Round 2. If you’re feeling lucky, head down the Monash for some family-friendly footy—you might even walk away a winner. The first 5,000 adults through the gate will receive an entry into the $10,000 helicopter ball drop. With Casey’s infamous wind, what could possibly go wrong? Closest ball to the pin wins. So spread the word, get down there—and good luck!
