PREGAME: Rd 16 vs GWS

Demonland

I would have thought Kos, Bowser, Petty & Brown.  It is either JVR or Brown and Petty or Tomlinson. Spargs is the only one I don't see coming in and you could make a case for Melksham maybe as sub. Not sure what the plan is and maybe concerned about GWS having a smaller forward line

Tough to pick the 23 this week. Kossie and Bowey will play for sure, Petty will play. Considering it's going to be cold and wet I'm hedging my bet towards van Rooyen. Brown is hopeless at ground level. Melksham as the sub.

Harmesy’s also currently on 149 games. We’re loath to acknowledge his milestone when he’s named as sub, which is, barring injuries to other players, the likely situation for who knows how long🤷‍♀️

… and just like that, Harmesy’s in the side. 😁 🥳 👏

Calls to the Club then some last minute changes means Harmesy and Ricky share the banner. It now says:

JAKE LEVER & JAMES HARMES

150 GAMES - PREMIERSHIP HEROES

with a pic of each of them, Jake on the left and Harmesy on the right.

Crisis averted! 😂

I think this is how the ins and outs will pan out.

In: Tomlinson, Harmes, Bowey, Brown

Out: Petty, Jordon, Hibberd, JVR

Sub: Melksham

I'll be amazed if Petty doesn't play.

Toby Greene is an outstanding player. Love watching him play. He won the game for them in 21 at the G. If we can keep him quiet we will win the game. If he gets off the leash then it’s 50/50

Not sure about others but get Tomlinson back in dammit and give Brown a go.  Wow, it's going to be cold and wet in Alice, didn't see that coming!

Why get out?

Feels like it’s Harmes for Jordon and Bowey for Hibberd.

Spargo as sub should be replaced by Melksham (there aren’t any other options unless we drop Pickett or Smith from the 22). Not hugely inspiring but he played well at Casey last week so it’s not undeserved.

Last spot feels like it’s Brown v JVR. I don’t think JVR deserves to be dropped but I also want to see Brown back in the side. I suppose Smith could be dropped for Brown, and I admit I thought his second half last week was poor, but I doubt that will happen.

It could just as easily be Brown going up to do community work, so we've named him to keep GWS guessing.

Goody did say they were se ding up a few players today to do community work.

I wouldn't.

Bar the Hawthorn game he's been incredibly poor this year. Absolute joke he was brought straight back in front of an in form defender where for once this year our defence was looking first class.

He can earn his spot back just like Bowey had to this week.

We have been playing with a smaller forward line that clearly has not worked and yet people are against replacing small forwards with talls?

We need less smalls, more talls (along with our very good mediums in Smith and Fritsch) and greater overall balance in the side.

We all saw the disaster of taking away a third tall from the backline (Petty) to play him forward (while our best tall forward Brown was playing at Casey) so why keep repeating the same mistakes?

Tmac is cooked lol.

Will be lucky to play at senior level this year. If we're still relying on him at back end of the year then put a line through us.

I know you like your "lols". But what's the first lol supposed to mean? You're laughing out loud because a player's career, in your view, has come to an end?

On Smith, i know they can always pull a swifty, but I've always understood when they name a squad, anyone named in the on field 18 (ie not interchange), they are a definite in.

Demonland hypocrisy alert #472

On selection, they are clearly taking a squad mentality atm.

I reckon any posters who stridently criticised goody last season for not rolling fresh players through the side at this time of year, being 'stubborn', too rigid, too boring, not managing players, nt doing what the Cats were doing etc etc should refrain from criticising him this season for doing exactly what said posters wanted him to do.

That seems to be the unwritten MFC rule, although illness or injury can mean a player is a late withdrawal.

As I see the proposed interchange selections, the final squad should include one of the tall forwards (Brown or van Rooyen), one of the tall defenders (Petty or Tomlinson) and one of the small forwards (Pickett or Spargo) plus one of Melksham or Bowey. Given we're one shy of a full complement of small defenders, (presuming Sparrow doesn't actually play HBF as selected) I assume of those two it will be Bowey.

My best guess will be an interchange of Bowey, Pickett, Brown and Petty with either Melksham or Tomlinson as the sub.

80% chance of rain, Brown not a wet weather player so doesn't come in. Harmes is an upgrade on Jordon. Melksham deserves his chance to get to 99 games as a sub. Smith stays in.

Brown straightens is up, by being in the team it will allow the players up the ground to aim for a target in front of goal and not just in the pockets.

Brown back in the team will help our small forwards in the wet conditions.

Also, if conditions will be so wet and slippery why the hell is ANB in the team?

BBB a premiership hero, is one of our top full forwards of the last 60 years.

1. Neitz

2. Bennett

3. Jakovich

4. Dillon

5. Brown

6.  Robertson

7.  Parke

If Melbourne is seriously contending this year the selection committee will need to swallow their pride and get him back in the team.

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an
