Yeah, they’re called the Daicii.

I know that. I remember learning it in Biology at high school.

Yes totally comparable to a weekend long camp that traumatised Indigenous players and attacked players who had lost family members. Totally comparable.

Areas, not replicas. Didn’t they bombard them with the Richmond theme song?

Which Daicos?

Nick I’d say.

Forgive me I'm sure its been posted on here somewhere. But there's a terrific interview Max did with Whateley on SEN this week (search youtube) where Max mentions that the team wouldn't really be chasing the level of form shown in the last 7 odd games of 2021, simply because it was fairly unstoppable football at the highest level and it seems unrealistic to reach that height of play again. But he followed up by mentioning we didn't need to play that extremely high level to win a flag.

If you stop striving you go backwards....... Sounds like bath water to me

My apologies, I couldn’t remember the exact number.
But as Goodwin said, they’re the team to beat.

Are they unbeatable? Of course not. Nobody is.
But when you’re playing the most in form side in the competition, you need a lot to go right.
Missing our best or second best (depending on your rankings of Trac and Clarry) player, certainly isn’t a good start.

Can we win? Of course we can. I’ve seen far greater upsets in my time. But to suggest this won’t be a monumental task, especially missing Clarry and Petty (and yes they also have key players missing, which definitely helps), is blind hope.

FFS blind hope, give it a rest.  Whilst you acknowledge they have key players missing you have to focus on the negative

We knew Petty was out 3 weeks ago from this game, several knew Clarrie would be pushing it to get back from a hamstring for this game. So it was a possibility he would miss. They don’t have 2 absolute guns in De Goey and Sidebottom. So on a positive that’s a good start. Elliott, Mcstay and Lupinski all coming back so I would hazard a guess they won’t risk all 3 of them.

But you just need to worry about the 23 you’ve got, not those you haven’t

We didnt struggle...   what bloody game were you watching ??

We struggled to play coherent footy..   we struggled to string 2 recognisable passages of footy together...  fmd...it was hideous to watch.

We won mainly because Carlton are rubbish...  lets not sugar coat our ability, our game,   we won by less than 3 straight kicks.

We'll need to bring a much better game come Monday

Go Dees

I did not say we were good

But let’s not rewrite history, we were in control of that game and our inside 50 entries were putrid, not to mention our conversion. We may have won by under 3 goals, but at no stage we’re they a serious threat nor could they breakdown our defensive set up

I’m well aware that we will need to lift the bar several notches on Monday, which we are well capable of doing

Carlton are a highly ranked centre clearance side and we smashed their midfield. We'll be OK

Exactly and it makes us less predictable without Clarry in there.

Don't get me wrong, he's my favourite player and we need him there for finals, but we can and will win without him.

I like long weekends except when i have to wait until Monday for a dees game.

Goody on Grundy

He’s keen. He’s obviously put in a power of work through the summer and he’s now at a club that really values what he brings to the team. We’re certainly going to embrace that.”

Other teams on a winning streak = Very good form

Melbourne winning games = Papering over cracks

In a way I am glad he is not risking ripping his hammy. He will now have 4 weeks to get it absolutely back to pre injury.

How about we all just think what we want to think and you don’t come here and get aggressive or rude towards my opinion, just as I have not done towards yours.

I couldn’t give a single [censored] what you think about our odds of winning the game. So why do you care about what I think?

I am so over this attitude on Demonland where nobody is allowed to say anything other than “we are a great team and we will win the flag”, without someone having a go at them.
Oliver out is a massive loss. He’s twice the player De Goey is. And I am entitled to be disappointed and worried about his absence from this match. I’m sure the club isn’t thrilled that he’s missing either.

Edit: let’s also not forget that for the past 6 or so seasons the Pies have lived rent free in our heads. When we were good and they were terrible, they still beat us. They have the wood over us, and psychologically we are coming in on the back foot. To suggest this is not going to be a tough game to win is just wrong.

I’ve come to the conclusion that we won’t miss Clarrie at all on Monday.

His last two appearances for Melbourne vs Collingwood:

• Queens Birthday 2022 - Kicks 21, Handballs 22, Disposals 43, Contested Possessions 16, Marks 7, Tackles 3, Disposal Efficiency 81%, Clearances 6, Scores 1.0, Goal Assists 0, Score Involvements 6, Frees For 3, Frees Against 1.

• Round 21 2022 - Kicks 14, Handballs 28, Disposals 42, Contested Possessions 24, Marks 3, Tackles 8, Disposal Efficiency 69%, Clearances 14, Scores Nil, Goal Assists 1, Score Involvements 7, Frees For 3, Frees Against 1.

Meh!

No pressure on Tom Sparrow and James Jordon who collectively will probably be called upon to replace him. At least they don’t have blisters.

You lost me at this.

🤔Either your "thought-bubble" is a brave attempt at denying away the influence that Oliver exudes in a game so as to calm the expectations.......or results.

...or you've gone completely bloody bonkers Jack... 🤷🤷🤷

Again, Clarry is the best player in the competition IMV, but we will beat them without Clarry.

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show.
