Honestly, this is going to seem ridiculous but probably not  any more than the original penalty applied to Van Rooyen.

If the penalty stood for this incident, then, in an instant, 75 % of all actions on a football field become a potential source of a suspension for every single player in the comp.

And the next logical step would be to allow only one player to go for a mark to remove the possibility of any injury to any player. Perhaps the single player allowed to go for the mark should be the one who first calls out " IT'S MINE !!! "

Any other player attempting to compete for it concedes a free kick and a 50 metre penalty.

This might not be so far from a probable outcome as people might think

With the AFL as it's currently run, anything is possible

I see the future of Footy

Two teams come on to the field

Two teams shake hands

.Two teams go off the field

Game over

MRO process needs to be a committee

Or else Michael Christian needs a new job , or some performance management

Very very harsh treatment to expect someone to leave the AFL. He/She would only be paid market rates, would not have a product that sells itself and basic competency would be expected.

I just came off AFL website, I was looking for their statement regarding JVR and you are right, Rif, Zero, Zilch nothing to see here folks, a bit churlish I think. Biggest story of the week has disappeared leaving no trace.!!!

As wsw said it was there but mysteriously disappeared later - which is odd because less news-worthy articles seem to have had more staying power. I can't think why.

No tiddlywinks to determine the winner? Or ... more in line with the AFL's sponsorships ... one roll each on a pokie machine.

I don’t like that daisy, Hawthorn would be unbeatable because they’re a bunch of tossers

I'm curious to know why it took 2 hours of deliberation to come to a conclusion that 99% of people took about 2 minutes to get to.

Perhaps we need some rules regarding duty of care when shaking hands

The AFL will demand a set Im sure

If you ‘ tiddle’ when you should be ‘winking’ , there ought to be a free kick against your team downfield for that offence !!

Obviously someone knocked some sense into this kid.

Good game!

Charlie didn't really need any sense knocking into him, he's a solid player.

Makes me wonder if we should consider him a target to poach to shore up our key backs down the track.  The GC has been a good development club for the MFC in this area in the past.

People have been known to have fingers broken in a firm handshake so the AFL owes players a duty of care to ban handshaking both before and after games because of the possibility that the practice could cause injury, albeit that the contact might not be high.

That was last week's interpretation of that rule.

If the decision went against JVR i was thinking of a game where players drop to the ground and roll

around clutching their heads!

Another solid though not spectacular game in a developing tall forward.   Will take time but remains ultra competitive and not deterred by the “events of the week”.

Keep up the development and team things and he will go a long long way.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
