What would be and better way to do it? Or, what is the more appropriate way to publicly show gratitude to my grandfather, great uncle and everyone else who gave everything for us to live how we do today? 

Or should it be a don't ask, don't tell thing?

As I said in the game day thread, it was a frustrating game to watch. In the first quarter we were second to the ball and wayward with our passing by hand and foot. Looked to overthink and over work the situations. 

We improved once we got back to the basics and looked to move the ball further from the base of action a bit cleaner and quicker.

I think the coaching group did a good job to turn it around after the first quarter, we did outscore them in each of the last 3 quarters and in the second half we scored 9.4 to 3.8. A significant turnaround after quarter time. All this on a big stage in front of almost 84,000 crowd.

As a lot of people have said, in defence, May looked a bit proppy, not 100% in my opinion. Slow to react  and half pace at the moment. If he is not right, give him time on the sidelines to recover fully. we have to learn from last season where we played NQR players and suffered for it. The rest of the back 50 held up very well with Lever working his way back into good intercepting form and Hibberd doing a good job after quarter time on whats-his-name. the rest did as they were required to do with McVee just looking settled and more than competent at this level.

Mids took a bit of time to get to work except for Viney who had a very very good game. Tough, direct and well used by the coaches. Sparrow and Jordon filled their roles and contributed very well.

Forward 50 is a work in progress as Goodwin stated during his presser. I would not have Petty as a forward, to my mind, he is too valuable in defence and we were crying out for an experienced forward target for the first 3 quarters. I liked the game of Chandler who really shows the value of a small crumbing forward prepared to work the contests at the fall of the ball. Liked the way JVR came good in the last. A lot of people are praising him for his performance in the last but we need to weight that against his work and performance in the other 3 quarters. Hardly sighted.

I want to believe that his last quarter performance will give him the confidence to present the way a bit more of the time in more matches. I also think that if he has Brown beside him he will get the freedom and space to do it more.

I love the way we came back and took the game away from Richmond. I think that the first half is a good as Richmond could play at the moment given their list and injuries whereas during that time we looked as if we were a 50%.

A good 4 points to take way from that game and always good to beat the Tigers.

It's worth reflecting as Dutch Demon is upon whether the AFL has appropriated Anzac day for entertainment.

I have a view.. others will have different views.

The release of the new approach to Defence yesterday was another questionable appropriation of a very important day.

All of that is just conjecture. The fact is we turned a 25 point deficit into a 25 point lead. Hardly “luck”. The competition is very close. Gold Coast beat Geelong. Hawthorn should have beaten Adelaide, who are currently top 6. Richmond drew with Carlton (are they are a finals team, probably). And as the year goes on, similar results will happen. Any win is a good win. Especially in this competition. So see the positives, not the negatives. The negatives will be addressed come finals time. This Melbourne side is as good as any.

Where do we draw the line though? Is the dreamtime game a farce as well? Heck why play on Good Friday? 

Shining light on and acknowledging something significant to history doesn't always mean it's for the entertainment ratings and big bucks. We talk about wanting to unite and not divide and football often brings people together. I didn't see a lot of merchandising exercises last night at the G but I did see a lot of ANZAC badges being sold and people showing their respects. 

I understand if people think football should be separate but it's a great event to be a part of and fsr different from a rock concert.

Fair enough, we should all just shut up at the football and not mention anything about it because the two concepts shouldn't cross over and they're exploiting it for private gain. 

Let's strip back on everything. Dreamtime, LGBTQ all of it. Footy is no place for political statements in the game and all we should ever see is tje game. Give me a spell.

We are not celebrating a day of defeat, we are celebrating the ANZAC ‘digger’ mentality and spirit

A difficult game to watch but a win is a win. 
Proud of our resilience and great to see us come back to win from a decent deficit, something, as it’s been noted, we haven’t done for almost all of last season and this one. 

Viney, Chandler, Gawn, Grundy, Langdon, Hunter, Lever all huge. Van Rooyen unbelievable in the last quarter. Trac and Clarry a bit off their best but still very good. 

There are however, worrying signs. Our backline is a bit off. It’s happened all year that teams get easy uncontested marks to players around 30-60 metres out, even to key forwards, something that just did not happen our premiership year. May looks a bit off, McVee, Rivers and Bowey all do great things but also make big mistakes as young players do. Hibbo is heart and soul and a brilliant lockdown defender but his turnovers hurt us last night. Our defensive structure has broken down much more than in the previous two years, not to mention how vulnerable we are to ground balls. Brayshaw’s best is excellent, his worst very worrying. For this reason I think Petty has to go back, we look so settled with May, Petty and Lever back there and they play better together. It also takes pressure off Hibberd, Bowey, Rivers and Brayshaw to play their best. As Goody says our contest and defense is the heart of our team. Let’s put it back together, I don’t think May, Petty and Lever have played a single game together down back this year, let’s get it settled this week. 
 

Our contest is also off, teams have figured out how to stop or intercept our first possession and we tend to setup so aggressively this means they leave the contest with very little pressure. I have faith in Yze and Goody to address this but we need to do it quickly, we are usually an elite contest team but at the moment teams are beating us in there, Gawn back will help but it seems we need to do some work on our setup and pressure around the contest. 

All in all I believe we’re definitely a top 8 team, hopefully top 4, at our best top 2. We now have three games we should win. Bank them, get the structure and form of key players right and let’s launch an assault from 7-2. Go Dees!

Brayshaw incorrect disposal when he kicked the ball - goal.

There is four before we go anywhere near blocking frees and goals!

Also paid at times when demons gaining momentum in the game.

If we have even a 3goal plus another 4 goal result, looks very different!

Demons did pretty well against a hot Tigers who had major assistance from the umps!
