Result is probably not going to change much about where we are at as a team. The lack of intensity perfectly encapsulated in Brayshaw taking 17 seconds to try and dispose of the ball while deep in defence. 29 tackles to 44. It might be that we are simply an overrated team, but our lack of real fight is the bigger blight.

As much as Brayshaw needs a rocket up his [censored], that free kick against was Blatent cheating

Damn frustrating game to watch with the performance of the umps and our dreadful disposal.

backs look better with Lever there but they are suffering from the same as the rest of the team because of the Tiger's pressure their disposals are off.

No forward line to speak of. Very dysfunctional. let's try playing an experienced forward sometimes soon.

Mids.... so many superstars and so very little results at the center bounces. Who is our midfield coach??

Work harder at the basics, bring pressure and  look to secure and keep the ball.

We can win this.

Mate they ain't superstars even if they are very good.

Superstars always give you the goods

Strange game where Ed Langdon comfortably leads our tackle count!?!

An absolute bin diesel of a performance. I cannot for the life of me believe we are 2 points down, we are not playing at the level required to win this football game. Richmond are still the better side tonight and we need a champion effort in the last quarter. Champion teams have 3 bad quarters then do what needs to be done to win the game.

The challenge is set Demons, rise to it.

Another game where we're getting beaten in contested possessions so far.

Worst umpiring I have seen  so one way against us

It's not just the soft ones paid to tigers, it's the myriad to us totally ignored.

But we are still in it and seem faster than tigers now.

Umpire #20 needs to go and get absolutely [censored]

I have never wanted to punch a [censored] umpire so much in my life. I wish him the spiciest diarrhea.

Didn't he also umpire us last week? Wikipedia tells me his name is Brian Hay and he's umpired 79 games.  Don't know how to find details of previous week's umpiring but it all feels a bit familiar...

Are people paying attention to Richmond's effort?

Hate to say it, but Pickett isn’t playing for the team.

Correct.

We need Brodie, JVR & Harry to have a big last quarters.

Max looks knackered.

Umpiring aside...

I have not been up off my chair yelling at the screen since the 2021 GF, but this time it incredulous fury. It is simply not possible for a squad with this talent to make so many fundamental football errors, both in decision making AND skill. It looks like 2012/2013 /2014 team.

And as for those pathetic, "get-rid-of-the-ball-quickly" handballs that go 50 cms, or the loopy one over the top so 2 Richmond players can cause physical pressure or damage, can't the on-field leadership correct that?

Something not right with May I feel. So far off his normal self. Lever rusty but better that term.

Petty not really a forward, doesn't have the craft, and with JVR outpointed by someone bigger/stronger/more experienced, forward line is only just functioning.

Someone needs to pull him aside and tell him he ain't Jeremy Howe.

 No, stuff Richmond. 😉

Honest what the [censored] was that Brayshaw..

Went through 3 defenders. Fumbles a plenty down back tonight.

Lever with 1 hand casually misses the ball. Facepalm.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

Melbourne and Hawthorn who face off against each other this week have more in common than having once almost merged and about to wear a blue jumper with a red v triangle and an embroidered picture of a bird on the front.  They also share the MCG as their main home ground, their supporters are associated with the leafy suburbs of Melbourne and in recent times, James Frawley graced the colours of both teams. Even more recently, both have bounced back from disastrous five game losing streaks to start off a season. Of course, the Hawks turned their bounce into a successful leap from the bottom of the ladder into a finals appearance, making it to the semifinals in 2024 and this year, they’re riding high in third place on the AFL table. The Demons are just three games into their 2025 bounce back, and are yet to climb their way out of the bottom four although they are sitting a game and percentage out of the top eight. However, with the current sportsbet odds of $3.90 to win this week’s encounter, it seems a forlorn hope that their upward progression will continue much longer.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • POSTGAME: West Coast

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.
