Some big changes in Casey’s lineup this week!

IN B. Brown K. Ferris-White T. McDonald J. Melksham C. Simpson A. Tomlinson

OUT P. Cross T. Freeman G. Grey M. Shepherd T. Sheridan R. Valentine

Of interest (to me, anyway):

-  Ben Brown named so fit to play, but not selected in the Melbourne team

-  Kyah Farris-White selected to play against men after running around in the under 18 comp.

-  Woey back but no sign of Turner (K.) or Smith (J.)

-  Jimmy Munro still injured

Which is the Smith in the right back pocket?

Might be looking to get a fair chunk of real game time into him and see how his back pulls up for the following week?

Get a bit of touch/form as well before returning.

Pretty sure the FD will want him back in ASAP subject to fitness / reasonable form.

No.1 for goal averages so far

No. 6 for score involvements &

No. 3 for inside 50 ground ball gets (a smidgen behind Clarry & Tracc who are equal 1st)

I can't believe Brown is in the 2's should be in the seniors.

Yep...the only reason i can think of is they want to see how his back holds up in real match conditions as there's still a slim question mark

Otherwise he should be straight in.

This might be partly Goody though as if you recall his pressors he keeps mentioning "zero risk" on player fitness.

Surely if he can play Casey he can play seniors?

Is there a point when you become so  risk averse however, that it ends up biting you in the behind and costing the team instead?

Strong team but will get a lot better…Ferris- White on interchange will be a worthwhile watch along with Jefferson, also on interchange.Hopefully Harmes has another good game.. Dunstan seems to be sub

Woey played last week.........

This could rival 186, a shellacking is in order

I think it's more management.

If he plays Monday night then he only has a 5 day break especially coming back from a back injury.

I think they also want to see whether his body can hold up after a match.

Deakyn Smith (#34)

So is poor Joel injured again / still injured?

Guessing that no.62 is Cooper Simpson, the young Stingrays mid that trained with us as part of the Academy program.

Keen to see how he goes, looks a good prospect in that 15-20 range at this stage.

Edit: Just saw the '23 draft prospects page which confirms all of the above via a Cal Twomey tweet from 4 hours ago!

That forward line is too good for me not to go and attend in person.

I'll be there, looking forward to seeing how KFW goes in the ruck.

Ross and Dow are the only Richmond players with senior experience and Bauer, Banks and Green the only other listed players vs 9 and 8 in those categories for Casey.

“Talented draft prospect Cooper Simpson will play for Casey Demons' VFL side on Sunday. The midfielder won the Dandenong Stingrays' best and fairest last year as a bottom-ager and featured for the AFL Academy last week.

Zane Duursma set to play for Casey next week at VFL level.”

The three players coming back into the Melbourne team from injuries this week (Gawn, Hibberd and Lever) are all mature age players. The selectors might have wanted to maintain a balance of youth and experience especially given that sometimes the older players take time getting back to top form.

AFL website doing a bang-up job as usual. At 1.25pm on 23 April it says on the Casey/Richmond Team Line-Ups page that it was last updated at 2.06pm on 23 April.

(It also says no late changes)

Dunstan playing at Casey, so one assumes Clarry will be right to go tomorrow

  • REPORT: Collingwood

The media focus on the fiery interaction between Max Gawn and Steven May at the end of the game was unfortunate because it took away the gloss from Melbourne’s performance in winning almost everywhere but on the scoreboard in its Kings Birthday clash with Collingwood at the MCG. It was a real battle reminiscent of the good old days when the rivalry between the two clubs was at its height and a fitting contest to celebrate the 2025 Australian of the Year, Neale Daniher and his superb work to bring the campaign to raise funds for motor neurone disease awareness to the forefront. Notwithstanding the fact that the Magpies snatched a one point victory from his old club, Daniher would be proud of the fact that his Demons fought tooth and nail to win the keenly contested game in front of 77,761 fans.

  • POSTGAME: Collingwood

Despite effectively playing against four extra opponents, the Dees controlled much of the match. However, their inaccuracy in front of goal and inability to convert dominance in clearances and inside 50s ultimately cost them dearly, falling to a heartbreaking one-point loss on King’s Birthday.
