We went and we had a fun trip except for the game of course. But i won’t going back next year unless Adelaide Oval gets a TAB.

No one was  denied entry.

Melb and ESS  fans had ample opportunity to purchase tickets once they were on sale. Ultimately due to Port playing the both games made it a sellout.

Name any Melb supporters that genuinely missed out ?  If they did it was because they were too slow to get tickets once they were on sale. 

Let's not try to spoil a good story with untruths.

It's either been changed or you are way off the mark!  It's extension correctly in both places. 

What’s the compensation for all the other teams since both SA are getting an extra home game, let’s hope for integrity( which the afl needs to look up the meaning) sake that the adjustment to the draw is made by the afl

I can’t name them - well, literally I could, only I’m not stupid - but the Demon Army ticketing wait list wasn’t down to zero like it should’ve been.

The tickets were for both games, your seat was for both matches. I intended to stay for the Port/Bulldogs game but I left at half time when I got drenched.

So the out going CEO of the afl has saddled us with going to SA for the next umpteen years. I might add he should have been gone mid last year. A couple of years in the future this will be like state of origin no one will  want to do it.  e.g. the MFC 3 interstate games in 4 weeks. Bombers were in melbourne the three weeks prior to Saturday.  The Dees  looked jaded on Saturday I wonder why.

The grand final is at the MCG every year, our home ground for the foreseeable future.  Compensation enough?

Despite being described as a *raging success there’s things that need to be avoided at subsequent Gather Rounds. For example: neither local team should be part of a double header. Or if they are, there should be much more time between the two games. Last night when our game finished, trying to leave the ground was bedlam, at our exit anyways. The AFL will overhype their product anytime. I don't think the gather round was a certified success, not saying it was a failure, but we need to see how it evolves in the next couple of years.

I do not like the idea of hosting the round in SA for 3 more years, I'd prefer for it to be rotated including TAS.

Yeah  , dont forget Hawthorn theyre a protected species going right back to the 1970's.  Stkilda and Melbourne will probably get the two ADL games next season.

guarantee it'll be in tasmania in 2027 to coincide with the introduction of the 19th team

The whole concept of Gathering round CAN work, however in the current climate with the way the AFL fixture works, it just makes an already unfair fixture all the more unfair by giving Adelaide and Port an extra home game on everyone else and two unlucky teams (Carlton and Bulldogs this year) an extra away game.

Reduce the season to 17 Rounds (everyone plays eachother once) and Adelaide play Port in Gather Round and it works perfectly. Everyone gets 8 home games, 8 away games and a neutral gather round match. But we know that won't happen.

Few (realistic) changes I'd like to see for next year.

1. No more double headers. Restrict Adelaide Oval to a maximum of 4 matches, one each day from Thursday to Sunday.

2. Move the Mt Baker match to somewhere in the Barossa Valley. I think this is already in the works.

3. By getting rid of the Adelaide Oval double headers, play two games at Glenelg. It has a larger capacity then Norwood, has lights and is in a popular tourist area of Adelaide. I'm amazed it wasn't used before Norwood.

4. Ensure whoever is unlucky enough to draw Adelaide and Port Adelaide receive fewer interstate trips than everyone else. Only way to make it remotely fair.

5. If it's in Adelaide for the next 3 years, then Gather Round 2027 should be in Tasmania with Tassie to enter the competition in 2028. Play 3 games at Belleville Oval, 3 games at York Park, 2 at KGV Oval (Glenorchy) and 1 at Devonport Oval.

That's right, it's made an already fundamentally flawed fixture ever more flawed. 

I was also shocked that they didn't Glenelg as a venue, that's a great footy ground. If doing it for the community and boosting the economy was really the true motive for Gather Round then they missed a big opportunity.

I've gotta say the Saints have the best fixture in the comp this year for some reason.

If I were there after our loss,  I'd be looking for the nearest tasting. 

Result aside I thought it was great and I'd go over again next year. Their public transport system is miles better than ours.
