Gather Round in Adelaide 3 year extension

It was reported SA made 6 times that in revenue to what was paid to the AFL which for state like mine is actually a pretty good outcome.

come on now...we've had thirty odd years of grand prix accounting in   Victoria

you were robbed !!!

The real question is can you make it pay next year

The problem with State numbers are numerous but in the first instance they count expenditure by people living in Adelaide.

Next they count the number of time Adelaide was mentioned on TV and radio = mega bucks

It goes on

The concept is an excellent one that just needs some fine tuning as to who plays who, where the games are played and the time slots

So both Norwood Oval & Glenelg Oval have lights and Mt Barker & the Barossa could be used for the early low-drawing games on the weekend so as to ensure all the games are stand alone

Days & Times could work as follows

Thursday 7.30pm Adelaide Oval (Ch7) Crows/Blues

Friday 4.30pm Glenelg (under lights) Giants/Hawks

Friday 7.30pm Adelaide Oval (Ch7) Demons/Bombers

Saturday 1.00pm Mt Barker Freo/GCS

Saturday 4.30pm Norwood (under lights) Cats/Eagles

Saturday 7.30pm Adelaide Oval (Ch7) Port/Doggies

Sunday 12.30pm Barossa Lions/North

Sunday 3.20pm (Adelaide Oval) (Ch7) Pies/Saints

Sunday 6.30pm (Norwood or Glenelg) (under lights) (Ch7) Tigers/Swans

So 5 free-to-air games but I don't see why all the games can't be on FTA & cable/streaming.  Just a one-off for the extra weekend

So no double headers but they'll have no trouble selling all the tickets anyway if promoted and marketed well

$80M for three more years

Desperado

https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/afl-reaps-80m-from-gather-round-deal-20230419-p5d1rw.html

The AFL will reap a major windfall from the Gather Round deal with South Australia, receiving close to $80 million in cash and non-capital investment from the SA government for the next three years.

And, as sources familiar with the deal confirmed, the AFL will benefit even further if infrastructure and longer-term spending on facilities and community footy are counted in the deal announced on Sunday by Premier Peter Malinauskas and AFL chief executive Gillon McLachlan

Hope he got an exclusivity clause because knowing the AFL they might sell the same real estate several times

Can't see them making money if groups drive over and back in car pools

Those Pies fans probably sleep nine to ten in their panel van halens too.

Each to their own but I just don’t see much benefit in this concept for 85%+ of the footy-supporting public…

Appears to make a lot of commercial sense to the AFL/state of SA (and for that reason it will stay) but seeing my team play another side from Melbourne in a different state, in the middle of the season and in front of a bit-of-a-nothing crowd just made zero sense to me.

    CONSISTENCY by The Oracle

"I think we have got a team that can win a premiership, and if we get in this year, I don't think there is a team that is going to want to play us. This year is not a write-off, I don't concede that. Not at all." — Collingwood President Jeff Browne. I love this sort of optimism from the Magpie President after his club’s eleven goal defeat at the hands of the fast rising Hawks. It’s consistent with the fighting spirit of the club that won last year’s flag.  I only wish I could say the s

    FEARS by Whispering Jack

Melbourne’s worst fears about the absence of Max Gawn were realised when it received a shellacking from Fremantle’s ruckmen Sean Darcy and Luke Jackson who dominated the hit out tally in their game at Optus Stadium on Sunday by a massive 47 to 19. As a result, the 50-point deficit at the end of the game proved to be a loss that was long foreseen that was two years in the making and demonstrated a complete lack of hindsight and planning from the club. To add insult to injury, Jackson was a D

    RAIN CHECK by Whispering Jack

The Frankston Dolphins broke a run of six straight losses against their neighbours, the Casey Demons and kept their hopes for a long-awaited return to the VFL finals alive with a 27 point victory over at Kinetic Stadium. Casey was welcomed to the Peninsula by grey skies, heavy rain and angry seas with threatening white-capped waves whipped up by gale force winds. After a slow start in the opening term when they failed to take advantage of the breeze, it appeared that the Demons had decided
