A crucial game for Goodwin in my opinion.

He’s 7-9 since the North win in round 10 last year and coming up against a team and coach he ostensibly can’t beat. This despite every man and his dog continually telling us that our list is generational.

On another matter, St Kilda have ruined the injury excuse for every other other club this season.

A very big Test for the Club.
This is a Home Game Demons.

Melbourne v Sydney

This Rivalry should be Huge.

Still a scramble for positions after the green flag from the season starting grid. Some early surprises amongst the front runners. A winning lap here will position red/blue team behind the early ladder leaders in the slipstream and provide opportunity to accelerate through the field and lap those descending down the ladder. No better time to reset after last week’s hiccup and unleash some demonpower on horse and his cart(el).

As a club, I really hope that we can squash the jinx that the Swans have over us - it probably cannot be put down to some talent differential between 'us' and 'them', we just seem to capitulate at various points of games that we play against them. I'd hope that the coaching staff have been thorough in this assessment - onfield, we are a better team with a losing mantra, and our game plans and outcomes seem to lack buoyancy when it matters. Across recent encounters, we seem to situate ourselves in a sink-or-swim catharsis, the latter seldom producing recoveries and ascendancies that matter in order to achieve the four points. Why, for example, do we seem content to search for 'learnings for next time' rather than play consistently to dictate our terms of these encounters?  We can humiliate most teams but the Swans, so often, have our measure and abundant luck in the conduct of the game after the main interval.

Even at this early stage in the season, I don’t think it needs to be emphasized too much how important today’s game is against Sydney - it truly is an 8 point game.

A win keeps us in close touch with the top teams in the competition and leaves us well in contention for a top four placing.

And we really need to know whether last week’s form was an aberration after such a strong pre season and the big win over the Bulldogs in Round 1.

We were rubbish last time out so a big performance is needed.

And I believe we will get it. Too many champions in this team not to get a response.

Could go either way but I’ll go with my heart which says Dees by 10 points.

And good luck JVR. Would be great to see you snag one on debut.

I've watched a bit of footy over the weekend. Teams that move the ball super quick with assured ball handling and can hit targets are getting the wins. Sydney are great at this game style. I'm worried that our propensity to fumble, miss tackles and inability to consistently hit targets under pressure will undo us today. Missing KP so much.

I agree, our fumbling, especially out of the centre, is a concern and a block to our gameplan.

As you have also mentioned our kicking to target players last week was atrocious.

And just like that we’re in Melbourne, we caught the first flight as it’s never delayed. Got a few hours to kill in the CBD. Looking fwd to a big response today, Oliver’s 150th and JVR debuting.

Not really confident.  A lot on young Jvrs shoulders. Hopefully Fritta turns it on and bbb continues his good form.

Our mids to redeem themselves.

But a win today is very important.

Goody needs to get the boys fired up. we need intensity and focus for 4 quarters

Yze needs to earn his money too and sort out the midfield. 60 clearances to 32 was pathetic last week

Fire up boys!

C’mon guys… where’s the positivity???

I woke this morning (earlier than I wanted thanks to Langers crowing at the top of his voice. Langers of the feathered variety, that is 😁). I was brimming with confidence and enthusiasm… until I read this GameDay thread.

We’ve got this!!!!!!

Us by (at least) 30 points.

CARNA MIGHTY DEES!

❤️💙❤️💙❤️💙❤️💙

I shall be heading to the game (in the comfort of The Manor's dog ute ) and aim to meet up with a disgraced Demonlander and a disgraceful Demonlander over a beer or two.

I'm hoping for a Melbourne win and some sunshine.

I'm really interested to see JVR in action. I've seen him at training and a little on TV. A number of Demonlanders rate him highly but the Swans as a first up will be a challenging gig . Good luck to the kid!

Another interesting aspect is, of course, the absence of Big Max. Obviously Grundy will provide most of the cover but how we go when he takes a break will be critical.

I have a feeling Fritter might do some serious damage today but we need big games from Trac , Oliver and the rest of the midfield to provide the opportunities.

Still really [censored] that Kozzie is out.

Dees to win.... comfortably.... if we play our best fast moving footy

We are too good and too proud to repeat last week’s dismal performance, and I know in my red & blue heart that we’ll bounce back strongly.  There are so many incentives for us to win today, and I expect the return of our ‘never say die’ attitude to get us over the line by around 2 goals.  Go Dees!

Could you narrow it down a bit? 😁

Well....... surprisingly ....... it's not a sheila !

In order to protect the guilty, I shall say no more on the matter.

My hopes for today:

A cracking game, Dees to win

A successful debut for JVR

A return to form for the midfield

Grundy back to AA form

Cheap beer (not gonna happen)

Getting on my bus home with 150,000 ferals at the GP spewing out about the same time…

Geez Bombay, that's an early start.

My advice is to keep off the booze til ..... at least 10 am.

I JUST WANT TO SEE PAPLEY SMMASSHED (HARD BUT FAIR) STATLESS, EMBARRASED AND HUMBLED back to the Lake Oval in rememberance of his club, that sold out!

GO DEES

Not surprising at all.

Need to make a statement today.

2022 finals loss needs some revenge.

Big test today to see how we have learned against a team that plays on the rebound with pace.

Goodwin cannot allow Mills to be a quarterback and rack up possessions and set up attacks.

Clearances will be vital. We lost out to them as Parker and Rowbottom smashed us last year.

Go Dees !

Pressure and more pressure Dees.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.

The Demons return to Casey Fields (aka the Field of Dreams) this Saturday to host the Saints in Round 2. If you’re feeling lucky, head down the Monash for some family-friendly footy—you might even walk away a winner. The first 5,000 adults through the gate will receive an entry into the $10,000 helicopter ball drop. With Casey’s infamous wind, what could possibly go wrong? Closest ball to the pin wins. So spread the word, get down there—and good luck!
