Good to see our AFLW team do a Premiership lap of honour.  But disappointed that the applause wasn't what was deserved.

Every dee around me clapped.

pity more of our supporters don’t see them play. They are great ambassadors for the red and blue

Anyone think Caleb Daniel is seriously overrated?

Chases the easy kicks and even when he does get the easy kick he coughed it up badly last night.

Said to my dad last night. For someone who is allegedly an elite distributor he seems to distribute to us alot.

Lots to like about last nights game. We seem to be moving the ball quicker whenever we can and our forward line looks heaps better than it did for most of last season.
We seem to have a more dynamic and flexible set up.
I like other was worried about our defence with Tommo and Judd coming in. What was a concern for me pre game is now a post game highlight, Tommo played a few solid game as did Judd who looks like he could easily be a regular players this year.
Was also pleased to see Chandler have a good game.
Lever was great down back and in general our defence was very good. With May to come back we will be very hard to score against.
As good as our forward and backline were I think the big point of difference for us this year is going to be our midfield. If possible it looks like Trac and Oliver will be even better this year. Gawn and Grundy will cause teams all sorts of problems and will get numbers of mids not rucks. Kossie looks dangerous when he’s in the guts , Viney wasn’t playing last night, Hunter and Langdon on the wings with role players like Sparrow and Harmes and we are stacked.

I was worried he'd hurt himself flying for that speccy a few mins earlier as he got up gingerly.
When he flipped back onto his feet I knew he was ok.

I can't remember a better ruckman than Gawn.
Teasdale and Round won Brownlows when I was a kid.
Simon Madden was a great ruck who went forward, took big marks and kicked goals.
Footscray had a big ruckman they used wax lyrical about but I can't remember his name.
Had burn scars and always wore long sleeves.
But I can't say I remember too much about their games.
Doubt Trac, Gawn or Clarry will win a brownlow as they take too many votes off each other.
But they'll deserve one.
Multiple flags will just have to do I s'pose.

Dempsey was badly burned in a bushfire pre footy career.

Another great Bulldog definitely wore long sleeve jumpers and shorts . Brad Hardie..

He was lit up like a human torch by a faulty gas bottle at a family BBQ  in Perth aged about 12.

Dale absolutely poos himself under the threat of any form of pressure or physically

Looks a million bucks when everything is easy though. He pretty much sums up the Dogs.

I really like Ed Richards for the dogs. In a very average back line, he goes hard for 4 quarters, seems like he wins a lot more 1v1's than he loses, has good evasive skills and is a pretty good kick.

I think you will find Gary was burnt  during his early career at Lara and people wondered would he make it back. He did in aces.

Never watch the sunday footy show on channel 9.

Thought I'd flick it on to see them talk about the dees.

Instead I just suffered through 10 mins of some stupid supposedly comedic quiz.

A footy show?

Watched it on replay just to hear Jake Lever on otherwise a “joke” of a show. Two interesting points from Jake I noted …1st in his After game interview..” we didn’t really enjoy our wins last year especially during the first half of the season “ & 2nd point on Sunday footy show “ last seasons wins …we weren’t really playing our best footy “. Paraphrasing a bit but as a supporter I felt exactly the same last year. This win was back to 2021 excitement.

That might be cause we've watched him turn it over to Brayshaw in the granny about 100 times 😂

I was in the Redlegs area and most people clapped.  But from where I sat it sounded polite and lukewarm rather than loud cheers/roar as they went passed each section.

Yep agreed - saw it was a muted response when they first came on so I deliberately went down to the fence to clap and shout support for them (in between interchange bench and the change rooms entry).  People were clapping politely but didn't really get on board cheering, which is a shame

Has there been any discussion of Clarry's kicking the ball over the fence? (I avoid the game day thread religiously).  What motivated him?

I think he just forgot. When the ump told him what the free was for he just laughed.

Also why on earth must we be subjected to Dangerfield in commentary while he’s currently playing?! Bad enough that he’ll be everywhere in the media once he retires. That said, I'm sure he knows there’s a difference between ‘demonstrating’ and ‘remonstrating’ unlike Jobe Watson.

Melbourne supporters as a base are pretty reserved ... Sadly.

Lever must play in a lot of pain.

Last right he held both boots in his hand while hand-clapping fans.  If his feet are an issue after 6 months of no match play then no amount of resting from games is going to help him😟.

So many observations of great things:

  • Pickett in so many of our goals.
  • Max's run up when kicking for goal was straight as as arrow
  • Max gave a masterclass in marking and positioning
  • Spargo never wastes a ball. So clever.
  • McVee a smooth mover and neat kick
  • Lever back to his best
  • BBB was playing footy that he didn't look capable of late last year.
  • Fast ball movement, unpredictable entries into fwd 50
  • not a weak link, total team performance.
  • Bowey's kicking superb
  • Max and Grundy worked very well together
  • Langdon picked up where he left off last year
  • Petty's safe hands
  • Harmes did a good job mostly on the Bont
  • Umpires were generally very good - even though the Dogs throw the ball more than any other team\
  • Kick ins were varied and often they honoured the short 35m pass directly in front
  • The team never stopped running
  • Thommo had a blinder - Although Lobb is generally pretty poor.

Two things(amognst many others) I liked:

1. The Dees fans drowning out the pathetic and unwarranted booing of Lachie Hunter, then we boo Oscer Baker.  Also unfair but still hilarious.

2. Who noticed the background of Brody Grundy's post match interview on Kayo showing Clarry (shirtless) and Yze have clearly an in depth discussion in the rooms behing Brody.  I thought how lucky are we to have those two.

The way we respond in games is nothing like we’ve seen before. Without a doubt the Dogs put the squeeze on in the second quarter and they had a patch where they sprayed a few, but our ability to stop an opponents momentum and then put the foot down is simply breathtaking.

From we where sat on Level 1, Lever was just outstanding not only when the ball came but also setting up the team defence. He could well be the next captain of our club.

Pressure factor of 215 in the second qtr. We withstood that pretty well I thought...

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
