There is a LOT of "kick long and hope" into both forward lines going on. Atrocious forward play. Brainless. And boring.

Much like our finals.

Hopefully we have sorted it out

Hmm I get the feeling of Deja vu watching the Tiges and Boos going around tonight. Bit like watching a Dees intra club pre season game from 5 years ago. A lot of intent but bad execution.

None of these teams are top 8 material from what I’ve seen let alone top 4 as some have predicted.

Time for this game as season kick off to end. I love the GF rematch as the season opener.

Wow. 50m for umpire abuse. And it’s not even our praccy match from last year

Based on the evidence of the first half we have both these teams covered easily.

3/4 of the comp have these two covered, based upon tonight

Poor footy.

Both defences winning and skills not really on point. Given it’s round 1, not much can be taken going further into the season.

Feels like this is an ‘in context’ game. Have to wait to see what the rest of the round has to show to gauge how good/bad this is.

Richmond have obviously spent more time in the off season practicing how to tap to each other rather than kick to each other.

Both sides look like fringe finals teams

Prestia looks a million bucks, he has fantastic agility for someone with no hamstrings and meatballs in his blood

Taranto is a horrendous player with skill level which would be embarrassing in the VFL

Yes I know it is Round 1, but that was a putrid quarter of Football

Both sides Stunk

Agree, another balls up of an opening game.

Go back 3 years and Dusty would have torn this game to shreds. He is starting to warm up, but looks 4 or 5 games away from doing what he can do.

Both midfields look so pedestrian and workman like, but with no excellence, or burst away player.

I am a huge fan of Charlie Curnow, but he is playing a very Sam Weideman ish game - getting to everything but not completing a mark, or a play.

Cotchin is shot.

Shai Bolton - yes please.

aside from the first minute there was 4 goals in 60 minutes.

horrible footy

Cowan looks like a prospect

Was bizarre he lasted until 30 in the draft. He’s a good prospect and won the Morrish medal. Looks like he’ll have a solid career.

This game has been trash.

what’s up with Curnow?? he got out worked in a marking contest by Rioli!

i thought he would explode this season

Dusty has been an average player post 2020. He’s not in the top 50 players anymore. He doesn’t have the extra gears anymore and just looks to get rid of it like hit potato as he can’t shrug the body contact anymore.

Obviously had a great career, but guys like him and Cotchin are basically cactus now.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • POSTGAME: West Coast

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.

  • GAMEDAY: West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have a chance to notch up their third consecutive win — something they haven’t done since Round 5, 2024. But to do it, they’ll need to exorcise the Demons of last year’s disastrous trip out West. Can the Dees continue their momentum, right the wrongs of that fateful clash, and take another step up the ladder on the road to redemption?
