Honestly, I loved what Steven May said, and as a supporter it felt great. He could've qualified it by saying "We really let ourselves down with our kicking so didn't perform well enough to win BUT I think we are better than Collingwood on our day" or something, but he was a few drinks in.

That kind of personality from players is fantastic and helps build the contest!

But list strategy? No chance anything real gets discussed external to inner sanctum.

Our last 4 or 5 games against them we've had 'all duck, no dinner' (Langdon); 'see you in two weeks' (Mcrae); football action (Maynard); and now we have May's we're better than them.

There's definitely a fierce rivalry building. That said, I'd much prefer our players letting the football do the talking.

May has to back that up now.

I never liked the Grundy deal but it was a roll of the dice with little else available and it hasn’t cost much.

Otherwise the plan seems to be to focus on 2 quality draft picks and to save cap space.

The biggest cost so far is that Oliver has gone from a prized asset to a major concern and Petty has gone from a huge part of the future to someone who’d seemingly rather be in Adelaide sooner rather than later. A couple of pretty big disasters we’ve managed to find ourselves in there.

I’d like the club to make some kind of comment on the list strategy once the trade period is done. Are we banking cap or are we just paying the bill for past performance?

And I wish it was possible to ask them why they haven’t  been more aggressive with list turnover at the back end of the list.

Agree with Oliver & Petty..  I’d like the club to comment on the whole Grundy disaster in particular Goodwin 360 in him & what went wrong …will be egg on his face if Grundy succeeds at the Swans even more so if they happen to win a flag!

We never should have courted him in the first place. The Pies are the ones still paying him; I hope he succeeds.

We thought Gawn could make it as a forward - he couldn’t. There is your story - Max will go out of the game in a blink of an eye at the top of his game right in the ruck - he won’t fade away in the pocket kicking three a game while someone not as good as him battles away to make us better than the sum of the parts. His id won’t allow it - it is his only failing and his final fallibility.

Funny how Gawn and Grundy didn’t work but we beat the two grandfinal teams with them both in

No we didn't.

We beat Collingwood with both, Brisbane we didn't.

Trac to go back to Casey to work on his kicking. Don't mind it.

Why?

I don't want the club showing their hand. Downright dumb.

'Hey, rest of league, here's our plan for next year.'

Why do some supporters think the club owes them a response at every turn? And don't give me the 'I'm a paid up member' claptrap.

It's dumb. And the club should STFU and get on with trying to win premierships, not spend their time placating neggy nuffies who [censored] the bed every time something doesn't go perfectly.

“Our aim is to continually improve the list, and get the right balance between talls, mediums and smalls, matching pace with strength and blending experience with youth.  Of course character and leadership are also paramount “

May I please have the job as spokesman?

Of course McAdam will get a game starting on the bench and probably dropped for the next week to put in Pickett. Do you want a best 22?

No it wasn't a disaster. In the 4 matches where Max was not available he stepped up and averaged over 100 AF points per game.

I wouldn't say no to trading out Petty if it means we land B King and 10

In - B King, McAdam, Pick 10, Adel 1st Rnd 2024

Out - Petty, Picks 6 and 11

Apparently Tim Lamb is coming up on trade radio at 12pm.... I may break my rule this year of not listening to any trade radio to just catch what he says.

  • Fullerton; been tracking for a while. Feel he got "stuck in the tube" at the Lions (behind Daniher, Hipwood etc)
  • Grundy; Charlie Gardiner at the Swans was great to deal with.
  • MacAdam; feels that a Future R2 is a fair offer.
  • Petty; 100% that he is NOT going anywhere. See him as the forward partner with JVR.
  • Draft Order; feels the points system creates a 2-tier system - clubs that need points and clubs that don't. This year we didn't and Taylor thinks there is a significant jump up in quality as you go higher. Potentially may try to trade up even further if the opportunity presents itself.
  • Pick 1; that's up to WCE.
  • Melksham; definitely with us in 2024, finalise whether that's primary or rookie list over the next few days. Thinks he might be back earlier than most people think.
  • Tomlinson; showed strong form in the back half of this year. He wanted to stay, we wanted him to stay.

First time I've listened to AFL Trade Radio. I feel dirty. It's shower time...

Picks 6 isn’t something the Suns would want given their Academy players and bids

What was also said is that Taylor believes that the difference in quality between 14 and 11 was quite significant, which is indicated by the price paid to move those picks.

There's obviously a big difference between the top 15 (including Academy/FS picks) and then there's a big drop off in quality after that. We've got two picks in that top group, which they're really happy with.

Lamb reiterated that Petty will 100% be a Demon next year.

But aside from McAdam and maybe another pick swap, it sounds like we're about done for this trade period.

Trade radio tweet saying Billings getting interest but no clubs mentioned. We allegedly had interest a couple weeks ago so maybe a watch there.

This is why you don’t see me throwing up potential trades too often mate. 😂

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.

After five consecutive defeats, the Demons have now notched up back-to-back victories, comfortably accounting for the Tigers in the traditional ANZAC Eve clash. They surged to a commanding 44-point lead early in the final quarter before easing off the pedal, resting skipper Max Gawn and conceding the last four goals of the game to close out a solid 20-point win.
