Trade Rumours 2023

This McKay situation is beyond a joke.

Yes they will have around 14 1st round picks if they add/hold the current selections (11 currently after removing Cunnington and Ziebell). That’s a huge group of talent to develop over the next 2-3 years.  AFL might have to say sorry to other clubs in a few years. They’re good at apologizing 🤯🤯🤯

With GC having:

18: Luko, King (Rankine)
19: Rowell, Anderson, Flanders
20: (Hollands?), *Davies, Jeffrey*
21: Andrew
22: Humphrey
23: Walter, Read, Rogers
24: Likely at least 3 more

Its going to be fun watching North and GC grand finals in 5 years time.

Welcome to the NMFC Harley Reid

All part of the plan.

The conspiracy theorist in me thinks back to the remarkable scenario with both the Roos and Eagles WINNING late season games that no-one would have begrudged them losing to secure pick one. In fact they both received some heat for WINNING and risking losing access to pick one and Harley Reid.

At the time felt like a back room deal between headquarters and both clubs to avoid the inevitable tanking fugazi.

Something like 'play games out, win if you can and we'll sort out a draft pick scenario, most likely involving pick three for McKay, where both clubs are happy. Roos you will get pick one and Harley Reid if you want him, but you will need to sweeten the Eagles draft hand so they can get who they want'

Nothing that has happened since suggests the above scenario is fanciful.

Not a rumour, but would you look at Ginnivan?

With Schultz coming into Pies, could be offloaded.

I think he is a dangerous player, a bit divisive, but…..

I wouldn’t object if price was right.

Trade radio stating Melbourne had "mild" interest in Billings.

Doesn't sound significant and was played down

If he is on the outer with CFC and their culture, then no. He is overrated anyway and played up by the media given the association with Collingwood. He's probably on par with Chandler.

As an aside, for those that think all AFL players are highly paid take note of the offer to Koschitzke!!

I'd gladly hire a make up artist and put a torso muscle suit on for a year LH if someone offered me that sorta coin!

I limit it to a year as i'd probably end up spending most of it in hospital recovering from various things or being conpletely rebuilt a la Steve Austin (actor not wrestler)

Nope he has the talent but not the commitment to be a professional sports person. We already have Spargo and Chandler who I much prefer over him

Tell me the AFL would bend over backwards for North in this matter if Clarkson wasn’t their coach. Laughable.

2 hours ago, DeeSpencer said:

Look at the excuses they gave for turning us down in 13 and 14.

In fact in 14 we were right in line with North, and the afl said, you’re getting free agent compo, you’ve got young talent (we had stuff all), you’ve traded for veterans (which actually hurt our future) and you’ve got Roos and Goodwin coming.

Would be so easy for the afl to say ‘you’ve got Clarko, deal with it’.

The response is - ‘you’ve got Clarko…let’s help him so he doesn’t quit mid season again’

Exactly what i was thinking this morning.

Amazing what a diff a name (with connections/cred) can do

Billings is the definition of an almost player, almost kicked the goal, almost won the game. If things clicked he would be a great pickup but would anything change if he played for us.

It’s either incompetence or deliberate. With the afl it’s hard to know which

I know which one i'm choosing

Given the amount of talent the Roos are bringing in, especially in the midfield I hope we are getting in the ear of someone like Will Phillips.

Hasn't quite come on early in his career and if they have so many high draft picks trying to get a game he may look to move.

Good mates with Bailey Laurie as well I think.

It's a good idea in theory but unfortunately he doesn't look very good

Did they stay further whether there was still interest?

Sam Edmund & Morris saying Harmes is a good chance to be at the Dogs by the end of the day.

Think I read that they mentioned that the interest was there last week, but they're unsure if we're still keen.

Not speculated on at this stage.

Harmesy. 😭😭😭we still love you. Best wishes.

Billings. F&))& No.
Ginnivan. Absolutely F&)&?!&n No.

IMV they are not the type of players that we need.

Ps. The famous Jack Ginnivan “No” gif will reappear if this type of mild interest in such players continues.

For balance, how about naming all the 1st round draftees that GC have lost over the years? Off the top of my head Lynch, Prestia, Caddy, May, Wright, Brodie, and I'm sure there's others.

They described our interest as both mild and bland. Bland referring to level of "spice" for a reference scale. Seem to downplay it as unlikely from my interpretation.

However when listening it did sort of give me Lachie Hunter vibes when his name first popped up last year. I'd still keep a watch for it.

I like Harmesy, and I hope he has as distinguished career at the Dogs as Mitch Hannan.

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.
