A better gag than letting a degenerate work mate move in would have been something about having to manage another kid.

I don't think it's about being seduced by picks this time mate. It's about maintaining the culture that the club has tried so hard to foster, and maximising what is a dreadfully sorry and sad situation.

Clarry is my favourite player, I'm devastated. But we've got the picks this year to work a deal that could rejuvenate our list.

The other thing not being talked about is the potential dramatic impact not having Clarry in our midfield will have on our game style.

Collingwood have shown you don't need an elite midfield to win a flag. They've bucked the trend in that regard.

I trust JT, Lamb and the broader club to do what's right for the MFC here.

As gut wrenching as that is. I suspect many of us are so strongly bonded to Clarry because we waited so long for an elite midfielder and then we got him, he helped us win a flag and now here we are...

After experiencing success I now understand how hard it is to be constantly looking through the windshield as opposed to the rear view mirror as a footy club. It is not popular and sometimes it hurts like hell, however you need to do it if you want continued success.

I have no idea right now if keeping or trading Oliver is the right move in the long run, but I trust our FD 100% to do the right thing. No-one is bigger than the club and despite how players felt in the past it is a privilege to wear our jumper again.

Anyone else struggling to comprehend how she can be 7 months pregnant with a 2-year-old?

Does any of this give James Jordon pause for thought? Asking for a friend.

Not only JJ but Grundy as well.

my missus would have cracked the [censored] bigtime if I moved in an errant mate while she was pregnant. No way would she have let it happen.

My wife was 7 months pregnant with a 13 month old.

Pretty concerning that we were happy to put a statement out saying Tonlinson was a required player but it's been 24 hours since this news broke and still nothing from the football club..

Perhaps no comment is an indication of our strategy?

Which I hope involves giving clarry a massive rocket and wake up call.

Like every dees fan I would be shattered if clarry left.

But there was plenty of publically available evidence of lack of professionalism on his part this year.

Applying the iceberg principle there was no doubt more stuff not in the public arena.

Another year of distractions could torpedo next season and beyond. For goody it is all about creating a team that is contention every year. Culture underpins that goal.

Crossroads for clarry me thinks.

I was absolutely against trading out Watts. But I acknowledged the club had all the info and respected the right of goody to make the call. And hard to argue it wasn't the right call.

I'll put my trust in the club to make the right call again.

Trade radio saying that a senario where pick 4 and a later pick might be enough for a trade with Clarry

Then 4 and 5 used towards pick1

We might have a few in tears on this board next week

Cal Twomey is saying multiple first round picks.

I hope Reid not only has what it takes to be a great player, but is also prepared to deal with the enormous pressure of coming into the club off the back of Oliver being traded. Those are some big shoes to overtake.

Might as well give him the number 13 too just to make the link stronger 😂

Gold Coast? Would leave them in a tricky spot with draft points.

If he's out the door I'd take pick 4 and Ben King though.

The Pies don't win a flag without De Goey, who's had a dozen more off-field transgressions than Clarry. Instead of cutting him loose. they freed up salary cap space to re-sign him by trading a solid citizen in Grundy.

If the alleged off-field issues with Clarry are true, then it's up to the club to deal with it. You don't trade away a proven generational talent for draft picks when you are still in a premiership window.

Oliver isnt DeGoey. I think DeGoey is more like Trac. The Pies don't really have a Clayton type player.

I was more taken aback from the last sentence. Wouldn't Gawn be concerned at all?

Massive unders, were basically giving up Pick 5 and Oliver for Reid and a later pick.....

Sorry, later pick was later 1st round pick. That would be multiple 1st round picks

Their trading forecasts are mostly laughable. They’re just looking for a segment to fill time and to bait people for conversation (which again fills time).

His trade value will be determined by the perceived ‘severity’ of his issues (which the guys at trade radio don’t know yet) and how much of his salary Melbourne are prepared to pay (which they also don’t know yet).

I am not a list manager but my guess is if Melbourne’s plan is to snare top end talent in the draft they might be prepared to pay some of his salary for a fee years to maximise the trade return but if the plan is to go after a tier 1 KPF then we’ll be less willing to cover any of his salary and the return will be a fair bit lower

Is it? Unless we’re happy for it to be known we will listen to offers. There’s no obligation to make a decisive move, but I’ll now be very surprised if we don’t.
It’s consistent with our approach, not being afraid to make bold changes. I’m sure it won’t be done without due consideration.

Wasn't necessarily Oliver to GCS for 4 plus, but a scenario that gets us pick 4. Could be multi club deal

Bailey Humphrey too and we give future first and later 23 picks to help them with points for academy players

Agree with this - club LOVES Humphrey. He did sign during the year though and appears happy. Would be an unexpected twist for him in his early career

Tom Morris is Saying clubs knew of Oliver situation days ago and senior players at those clubs knew.

Now saying the lure back to SA for Petty is big, maybe not yet but the lure home is real for him.

He’s not from Adelaide. He’s from a town like 500km away.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
