Yes, I checked again this afternoon and the Foxtel guide is now showing the game, so it will be broadcast here in Sydney, after all.

With the exception of a few hundred who live close to linton street I don't expect many Dees supporters to turn up  to a late afternoon match in 34 degrees. Seems like cruel and unusual punishment to ask players to play a winter game in the conditions expected for Friday. I think there will be more for the Casey games against the Tigers.

Reslly OD that's an interesting prediction.
What if it's 34 vs Tigers also?

Sorry mate I'm not sure I follow - what negative comments?

I've in general only ever been bullish on JVR & as for Casey, I was one of those who criticised the club/coaches for not playing our strong VFL players like Chandler in the 1sts more last year. Do you have me confused with someone else?

Sorry Fr-ap yes May have misconstrued you. Possibly Orion. Profuse Apologies.

Thanks all

That (presumably ex-) mud heap - remember going to a match there circa 1965 - pouring rain, cold as charity, mud even on the outer hill.

Surely in this sort of heat they could play unlimited interchange.

Not sure if already mentioned, but the Bulldogs don't have a game this weekend because the Giants didn't want to travel. Instead they are playing an intraclub match. Hopefully this leaves them a touch underdone for Round 1.

No Shache

So Burgoyne has officially joined Casey. I hadn’t seen that confirmed.

So Kozzie has Trent and Byron Jnr to flat with and maybe good friend Henry next year.

How could he leave his mates and cousin?

Knew I’d miss one.

Seems the rehabber's/injured are; Melky, Adams, J.Smith (underdone), Dunstan, Salem, and Fritta.

Interesting that Woey may get a run, as he had been in rehab for a few sessions.

That’s not a bad injury list. Only Fritta and Salem are best 22.

Great for the few Casey Demons players to get a run, a taste of the big league (speed, intensity, skill level) can only help them with their season.

Would love to see Burgoyne have an impact, and Munro.

Hope they all get a run.

I like that it isn't listed as a practice match but 6 25 minute quarters of match simulation with no time on. What does one make of that? Will there be tackling? I assume 4 umpires and unlimited rotations.

  • Whispering_Jack changed the title to Match Simulation vs St. Kilda FC

Everyone will be watching only for the Grundy/ gawn double act.

A pretty good lineup. Practically full strength.

Just hope no serious injuries

Yes, will be full contact.

My guess is they’ll go best 22 for 2 periods, then sit the veterans.

Go with a solid side for the next 2 periods making sure everyone who’s in contention for round 1 is getting a fair look in.

Then finish the last 2 periods by replacing everyone who started the game with the kids and Casey players.

Or they could just go 3 and 3 if it’s super hot.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
