Are you able to listen through the SoundCloud link above?

Yep, just tried on the Soundcloud app and also in browser (DuckDuckGo for Android) and all worked.

By the by, sound quality much better on the apps instead of browser!

excellent. Thanks for the troubleshoot.

if anyone is having issues within the browser make sure your phone/app software is up to date too.

that advice is also for issues you might experience on this website such as login issues. clearing browser cache can also help.

Fabulous poddy thanks to Andy, George, Bin, and of course, Jason Taylor.

I’m currently in a remote part of the Snowy Mountains, with pretty dodgy internet coverage, so I couldn’t listen live.   However, I’m pleased  to say it’s coming through loud and clear this morning, as I sit outside in the sunshine, sharing my toast and marmalade with a red and blue (Crimson) Rosella, which is sitting on top of my IPad, which rests on my lap.  How lucky we are to live in this great country, and to follow our great team play in the greatest sporting competition on earth!

Thanks again guys, for your podcasts throughout the year.  Always interesting, enjoyable and informative!  Go Dees!

He admitted the MFC asked Essendon about pick 4 but refuted that they offered 3 first round picks by stating it had to be fair and reasonable without effecting the future, which is are words that you should never use when dealing with Essendon so the Cal Twomey conjecture was Essendon's spin.

I love that they took a punt on Sestan and the thinking behind the move. Hopefully a masterstroke.

Thanks to all involved with the podcast - a great listen for those starved of Demon news and debate on the other side of the globe.

I just saw that SoundCloud posted on Twitter that they had an outage on their end a few hours ago. Should be good to go now as others have said.

In future if one service is down please try another. We are on Apple Podcasts, Google, Spotify & SoundCloud.

Does he already have players in mind for our picks in next year's draft.

Has Hogan and now Jackson going home to WA impacted decisions on recruiting WA players if talent etc is even. Did it impact the decision not to take Allen.

Did the intended move to a tactical sub have any impact on the makeup of the list and the recruiting

Your second question IMO is now irrelevant as we selected Jed Adams at 38. If we/he had any doubts about WA recruits that decision is obviously NO.

Didn't we as a Club also sort of push Jesse out by agreeing to him going in a way that we were fed up with the conjecture and uncertainty when he was playing along with injuries etc. ?

Both  times we have traded brilliantly with replacements with Steven May and now Brodie Grundy. Still have the Ist snd 2nd rounders for next year.

Thanks Demonland loved the interview with Jason Taylor really enjoyed the questions relaxed format and JT’s thoughtful, honest and considered answers. Thoroughly enjoyed the Demonland analysis and review with you George and Binman that followed, thanks to all of you for puttyin the time and effort to keep us all informed and entertained.!!!

First time listening to a podcast. At this time of the year, any good dees info is good for the soul.

The most interesting, and new, insight was that we picked up Oliver Sestan with a rookie pick to ensure that, if he went back to Oakleigh and played as expected, it was likely that he would be a great pick up in the mid season draft where we would, we hope, be down the bottom of the pecking order.

Good planning and we still have good draft position next year. Sounds goody all round.

He didn’t directly say that did he? Not to my ears anyway.

I think more than likely 3 firsts for 4 and 22 was offered. Possibly with some swaps of 2nds and 3rds.

That’s really only 2 firsts and a slight downgrade. A fair deal that doesn’t compromise our future by going all in with just 1 player.

Listen to the podcast.

Great listen as always and a super insightful interview with MFC recruiting royalty.

And thanks to @binman for flying the flag for Westy - your outrage about that ridiculous HTB decision in the GF was palpable through my earphones! I hope footage of that incident makes some kind of umpire training video, including her withering stare to cap it off.

20 Questions with Jason Taylor:

Draft positioning:
- how close was the trade up deal?
- who was the target?
- did they consider trading back, ie. taking the Hawks deal

Jefferson:
- How's his athleticism - 2km, agility, 20m sprint
- Did the consistent scarcity of tall forwards play a role in his selection?
- is he a late bloomer/underdeveloped as a junior?

Adams
- Prior to the draft on AFL media JT was very confident he'd get a good player in the 2nd round, was this the guy?
- Where did he rank on his board
- What injuries has he had and have they been corrected?
- How's his athleticism - 2km, agility, 20m sprint

Verrall
- Do they like his forward game?
- Did the sub rule and the ongoing likelihood of 2 rucks increase the importance of having 2 developing rucks

Sestan
- did they have athletic testing on him?
- was this the most wild pick he's ever made?
- how was his form at Xavier?
- are the rumours he worked over George Wardlaw at the training session true?
- why draft him rather than get him down to training for summer?

Burgoyne/K. Turner
- how long will they train for?
- are the coaches far more involved in deciding a list spot once a player is training?

General
- Excluding JVR who we expect to see soon and the first year kids, who debuts first from Howes, Laurie, D Smith, Taj, AMW, McVee?

Thanks for the podcast - entertaining as usual.
Jason seems a deep thinker and also looks outside the square - very modest but laid back.
OMG he must watch hours of videos every week as well as hours of junior, and not so junior games.

Presumably he has spotters to draw his attention to prospects, but love the dare and initiative to track down Sestan - if he turns out even a fringe contributor it will be a master stroke.

Congratulation on the podcast Andy, George and Bin.  My only comment is that I think you should have led with the Women's GF win.  It was epic, just the most inspiring effort and the determination and courage they showed was of the highest quality.  That flag has been 7 years in the making and IMO deserved top billing.  JT gets a go every year.

And on the comment made by Bin (I think) who said we had to change our gameplan when we realized the ground was so soft we couldn't bounce the ball.  I reckon Brisbane's gameplan is even more dependent on outside run and speed.  IMO it probably helped us.

I thought JT was interesting about JVR.  He's 19, don't expect too much. With Grundy coming in and Max playing more minutes forward I think BBB, Tmac and JVR will share duties.  Half a season for JVR at most I'd think (subject to form and injury of course).

And it was interesting that we got new software that allowed us to view Seston's highlights for the last two years.  I wonder how long that software has been available and we didn't have it.

Anyway, thanks for your effort's lads, most entertaining.

I take your point. I was going to do a separate AFLW Grand Final podcast but I was just post op for my shoulder surgery at the time.

Whilst not the reason for talking about the AFLW Grand Final at the end on this podcast the live listener stats each week drop as soon as we start talking about the AFLW. This fact does not deter me from discussing AFLW.

During the Live show the other night we had about 50 to 70 live listeners throughout and during the time that we were talking AFLW it dropped into the teens.

I have the LIVE listeners stats open whilst we are broadcasting live and this dramatic drop off in listeners is a weekly occurrence when we start talking about AFLW. To be clear this lack of interest whilst disheartening does not dissuade me from covering AFLW on the podcast or helping to promote the game in any way that I can. I recognise that the more that we cover the game and give it exposure the more interest that there will be.

I have no such stats to draw on from the downloaded/streamed shows once they are uploaded as listeners drop off stats aren’t provided.

Engagement on Demonland’s various social media pages is also quite low for any AFLW content we posts (with the exception of the Premiership winning post after the Grand Final). Whilst I understand that mens content engagement is going to trump the womens, the gulf at the moment is huge.

We should promote the game more and give it equal billing but I don’t think Demonland as a website can be accused of ignoring the women’s games. We post a match preview & report prominently each week and there is discussion of the games and any news.

One of our first interviews on the podcast was with Mel Hickey. This was organized directly through Mel. At another time I  requested an interview with an AFLW player through the club and I didn’t receive a response back and haven’t actively tried again.

I hope to promote the women’s game on Demonland and the podcast more in the future and do appreciate the feedback.

  • CASEY: Geelong

There was a time in the second quarter of the game at the Cattery on Friday afternoon when the Casey Demons threatened to take the game apart against the Cats. The Demons had been well on top early but were struggling to convert their ascendancy over the ground until Tom Fullarton’s burst of three goals in the space of eight minutes on the way to a five goal haul and his best game for the club since arriving from Brisbane at the end of 2023. He was leading, marking and otherwise giving his opponents a merry dance as Casey grabbed a three goal lead in the blink of an eye. Fullarton has now kicked ten goals in Casey’s three matches and, with Melbourne’s forward conversion woes, he is definitely in with a chance to get his first game with the club in next week’s Gather Round in Adelaide. Despite the tall forward’s efforts - he finished with 19 disposals and eight marks and had four hit outs as back up to Will Verrall in the second half - it wasn’t enough as Geelong reigned in the lead through persistent attacks and eventually clawed their way to the lead early in the last and held it till they achieved the end aim of victory.

  • REPORT: Geelong

I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

  • PREGAME: Essendon

Facing the very real and daunting prospect of starting the season with five straight losses, the Demons head to South Australia for the annual Gather Round, where they’ll take on the Bombers in search of their first win of the year. Who comes in, and who comes out?

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?
