But they won’t. They’re tanking hard.

They didn't look like they were tanking last weekend against North.

I guess we'll find out on May 6 when they play each other

Our 2023 draft picks based on last year's finishing positions are:

Melbourne 13, 14, 32, 33, 88

I'd be ecstatic if that turned into 1, 18, 19, 38 & ? On Fremantle's revealed form those picks 13 & 32 are going to be a lot higher. I hadn't quite appreciated how easy a draw Fremantle had early. I assume that as they finished 6th their remaining draw is pretty tough. Which 6 teams do they play twice?

The teams they play twice are:

- Sydney

- Brisbane

- Geelong

- Bulldogs

- Hawthorn

- West Coast

Make of that what you will.

Great viewing today!

Came straight here for a laugh after seeing the result and haven’t been disappointed😁

Freo sitting 1-3 (lucky win after injuries plagued WCE) and have this the next few weeks:

GCS (in Adelaide)
Dogs (Home)
Brisbane (away)
Hawthorn (Home)
Sydney (away)
Geelong (home)
Melbourne (away)

If they are better than 3-8 I'd be surprised. Could be as bad as 2-9 is the Sun's get them this week in Adelaide.

I can’t wait to play them. Gawn should be back by then. Jackson will have a real fun time out there.

Would love a weekly "What they are saying in Freo" segment from LH.

Just some of the wisdom on the Freo board

Melbourne are really going to love the top 3 draft pick we'll be gifting them this season.

Great no first round pick either to at least get a bit excited about

The Luke Jackson trade is a disaster and we will have to live with that but at least he's an okay player.

Going to be great watch Jackson spud it up whilst Melbourne's pick 2 wins 3 Brownlows.

Thanks! I finally get what was (to me) an obscure reference...

So as it stands it we have essentially traded in Grundy, Jefferson and a 5-10 pick for Jackson.

It could end up one of the all time best trades albeit its early days.

Jackson might well still be a great footballer, but hard to see him winning another flag in that jumper.

Not sure if the club saw it this way, but Grundy had the runs on board and we got him at the same price. I just hope Grundy’s length of contract stands up..

Okay, I'm being purely sadistic here but how about we aim to use our 2023 draft picks to take the best tall defender (Curtin, from Claremont) and best ruck (Edwards, Peel, and Freo Academy) just so we can watch Freo supporters implode?

Handily, they're probably the two most suitable first round picks for us, anyway.

I mean, recruiters always debate 'best available' vs 'needs', but I don't think there's enough consideration of merciless trolling as a draft strategy.

...and then they trade Jackson back for a salary cap dump.

It's not cool to claim someone else's joke, rpfc. Next you'll be saying you're high on potenuse.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
