Good pick-up, @Young Angus. That does seem rather telling, given who he did mention, and how he mentioned them. Hopefully, though, this was just because of how Richardson was led by the questions (the asker of which probably wouldn't know a Jefferson from an airplane).

I think Jeffo would be in the mix for a key forward spot. I’d say it would go:

1. JVR

2. Turner

3. Johnson

4. Jefferson

I think Johnson might be ahead mainly because he’s more physically developed and can probably second ruck,  allowing JVR to play forward 100%

Just heard Richo on the radio yesterday talking about everyone else but didn't mention Jeffo once...anyone care to venture a guess as to why?

He also didn't mention McAdam when he was trying to spruik our forward line options.

He did mention McAdam quiet extensively & said he's doing everything right & they just need to make sure he stays fit & healthy.

Hope so...can't wait to see Jeffo debut at top level and kick his first after driving a knee into Darcy Moore's adams apple during a footy act marking contest.

My bad. Read the wrong paragraph.

Thanks for clarifying.

Jefferson has reached what I would call the "handy" class. He has definitely matured physically. He no longer looks lethargic; he looks involved and confident. He has the advantage of being taller than a few of his key forward competitors. If he grabs a couple of contested marks and kicks 2 or 3 goals in a practice game, I expect he becomes a viable option earlier than many think.

Agree

Johnson will not be a huge possession earner but his touches marks and handballs will be very good for the team and his other forwards.

He will also take the premier opposition defender most likely that means JVR is not quite under as much pressure with Turner ( or Jeffo) the third banana. Happy days for Fritta and the others will also be able to be much more positive as forwards.

Plenty of time yet for McAdam he hasn’t had any time with no pre Xmas to stand him in good stead. Needs an intense few weeks now and practice games to be any chance for the early rounds.

Would rather it be to the back of his head……..sending the headband flying

Been in mush brain protocols for the last week or so, so not much to watch

On another note, if Jeffo kicks 10 during a Casey match sim but no one is there to see it, did it really happen?

Does a one-legged duck swim in a circle?

Johnson is already overated by many on this site! In the 4 or 5 training sessions i saw before Christmas I saw none of the hype generated here! He will be handy on occasions and in fact Campbell is more likely!! Jeffo was recruited as a KEY forward! Happy to revisit this at end of the year but Jeffo is a more natural and smart forward which will see him do well when he debuts

Depends what you mean by hype. For me, he's the Cam Pedersen replacement - pinch hit in the ruck, bring the ball to ground and make a contest up forward, keep oppo players honest and take one of their defenders. If he can do that effectively at AFL level he's earned a place on the list, at least.

Agree re Campbell, though mainly as a Max replacement. I can't see Campbell and Max in the same team, but could imagine AJ + Max.

Oh, I would love that! The unfortunately- nicknamed Pedo was a terrific player, I think, for his commitment and versatility and capacity to take an important mark at the right time.

Saw Jeffo running laps and he is a good size now. Not sure when he will be right for full training but he will get his chance this coming season to play AFL.

AJ looked pretty good in match sim. Gets has hands and knees dirty when the ball hits the ground. Took a good grab and kicked from just outside 50 with no problem. As you would expect he could not get near Campbell in the ruck. Competes well and has 2nd and 3rd efforts.

We will know more when we have a full scale practice game or 2.

As an aside Mentha looked ok. Quick, gets good position on the outside. Will need some VFL time. Has potential. Some regular track watchers said he has improved immeasurably since his 1st sessions.

It's not hype. It's hope. It's the off season. It's a time for the optimism of the supporters to grow and look forward to the next season.

The houses have all been trained down. Players have put on muscle in just a few weeks of holidays and all the problems with the game plan will magically be solved.

At the moment, Johnson is a Schrödinger's cat. He could be the next Tony Lockett or he could be a complete bust.

Let the optimists have their time.

She looks like a White Rabbit.

PS: Hope we can get Roy and maybe Jai onto the list at some stage this year. Obviously though, not at the expense of one of our stars getting injured.

Hmm, I reminded of an IT Crowd episode.

Also while pronounced differently it's kind of weird/ amusing that Salem's nickname is spelled the same as a notorious debauched film.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
