If we were cruising in second place or so and no injuries I'd be playing Jefferson this week. Petty down back and May having a rest.

Unfortunately it's another season on the line game which have become the norm since the last Eagles debacle.

No hurry for young Jefferson at present. Took an excellent pack mark on the weekend. This is something he does not do often

Let him play out the year at Casey and get him banging down the door for selection.

Another pre-season developing his body isn’t going to hurt either.

Proud to say I have never once questioned Jefferson's development.

Learnt a big lesson from when I thought Judd McVee was a certainty to be delisted after watching him at Casey in his first year. Thought it was a joke we gave him another year.. egg on my face now but since then I've reserved judgement on the likes of Jefferson and Adams because it just takes time and patience is needed.

People forget that not everyone develops at a Nick Daicos level and everyone is different in terms of speed of development.

And talls like Jefferson and Adams usually take longer again.

I'm potentially the one about to wear egg re. Jefferson. He's certainly taken some solid strides this season but the calls to play him feel very premature.

Given weight can no longer be reported on (we wouldn’t want to offend someone who doesn’t give a [censored] if it is), how’s his development size wise? Thanks in advance.

Not that I disagree with you, but just an anecdote, a mate of mine is an agent for NHL players in NY and he has a 1st round pick gun (playing a few seasons now) who absolutely goes mental if anyone speaks about his weight.

Um Sorry to disagree there but he has taken quite a few that I have seen, AND seemingly been out of position, but Magically appears and Clunks them! Sign of a very good player, IMO

If we want to look at stats, he's currently equal seventh in the VFL goalkicking with 21. The leader is on 25 (with an extra game). I'm not sure how the 'best player' voting works, but the only Casey player with more games in the 'best' is Mitch White (9). Jeffo is equal with Laurie on 7.

For reference, JVR kicked 33 from 18 games in 2022, finishing in the 'best player' 6 times. Jeffo is on pace to match that output, albeit in his second year.

MUST be so close after today?? Surely!!

Sounds like a bit of a weirdo.

36 goals for JVR in ‘22, Jefferson tracking close enough to that with 6 games left (and up to 24 for the year after today). Good signs for a 2025 debut

2025???? Needs to play Now!

He does look a player who would be better suited to a higher level. The ball coming in to him has been atrocious… hang on… 🤔

YES, if he can take a mark, he's already better than compatriots who cannot. If he can lead to space or exploit the side-entry to packs, he is already better than compatriots who cannot. If he is mobile and gets 2-3 goals as a consequence, he is far better than compatriots who will not.

He’s just got himself to the level where he can kick 2-3 relatively consistently at vfl. As much as I’d like him to bring this to afl, we saw this year how mcadams ‘form’ translated. If he was banging the door down with bags, I’d join the chorus but I don’t believe he’s there yet.

What's a compatriot, is that some kind of riot ?

My Funk and Wagnall says it's 'a fellow countryman'. Yeah, that fits. He is an Aussie, isn't he?

Caaryst delivery in a poor side is apparent, bags of goals wont occur, but he is delivering now consistently! Time is right for Jeffo IMO!

Partners in the war against mediocrity for the MFC team.

He is, he describes hitting a hockey puck and breaks it down into 14 different actions to be perfected, off the chart OCD. I couldn't get over that someone who plays NHL could give a [censored] about his weight but does. I'm not naming him because if for some bizarre reason it got back my mates 10% pffft

I wish some of our players had the same level of OCD when it game to kicking for goal.

Or kicking full stop for that matter.

The anecdote highlights how driven, myopic and selfish elite athletes often are, perhaps have to be (the same is true I think of many brilliant surgeons, musicians, artist, writers etc).

I would nor be surprised if there is a correlation between being an elite athlete and neurodiversity, for example conditions like adhd or being on the spectrum that have 'symptoms' like an ability to hyper focus on specific activities, OCD, preparedness to train solo for hours,  self absorbed and self sufficient and not caring what others think of you (eg in the hockey players example, he could probably care less that many would  suggest he is over-sensitive about his weight).

@Engorged Onion - what say you, am i barking up the wrong tree here?

Jeffo has a Flawless set shot routine, very Matthew Lloyd like!

there is a lot of revising and rediagnosis (due to update of knowledge bases) from ocd dx to autism or ashd dx

.as a profession, were getting far more nuanced

here is an interesting chart.

it's not all functional and not all dysfunctional - and as always function is contingent on context.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
