Tayla back in the game

I so hope she's ok for next week. Probably our most important player

we've conceded 16 points. our defence is not the problem

It was, no counter attack. And it should’ve been 5 goals not 2

big last quarter from Birch. Credit where it’s due

You Mackin us all jump for joy now Dees.
Under the pump most game, impressive mental fortitude…prelims are hard to win, Well Done Dees! Gillard and Mithen super.

Swirly breeze hasn’t suited our game style all day but we’v been massively outcoached.

Inability to establish a chf and ff to nullify all North’s spare

North will win this comfortably with the scoring end.

My favourites Birch has stunk it up and Paxy on Kearney has been awful. Paxy just racking junk possessions but never sticks to structure.

Also no point playing a fast running style of footy when the umps refuse to pay holding and never let your runners get on to the ball

Didn’t age well.
Paxy should be in the votes. She’s been awful? Cmon now

we let them come at us at the 3rd Q. Defended well and then run over them

Gee we made head work of that.  Thanks to our defensive structures and defenders we held up well, and over-ran them in the end.  Go Dees.

All class that quarter, brilliantly deserved. Kate Hore protecting the drop for her mark, then straight kick in the wind, Daisy sensing the moment and delivering perfectly. Just love Tyla Hanks instinct for best option disposal and opening up the game. Defence great as always. Too many contributors to single out really….love ‘em all!!!!

Not a great performance but credit to North for making it very difficult for us. Came good in the final quarter and showed our class

We're in the granny and thats all that matters

All eyes on Tayla Harris during the week.

Gosh I hope we win and get through to the GF. Daisy deserves to get a premiership, not only her but the other foundation players who started season 1 with us and have remained loyal.

Fitting that she sealed it so clinically.

Well done girls great last quarter, well deserved defensive win. Good luck next week, you deserve it.!!!!

Great win girls. The game was not going  our way yet they hung in and then went pounce. Good sides do that. And I just want to tip my hat to Shelley Heath. Can't think of anyone better to have in the trenches.

That was pretty intense and I'm particularly pleased that Daisy got to kick the sealer.

Defence held up brilliantly ont he strictly defensive side but had some trouble breaking out of the ring at 50-70m. That's a team thing. Similarly, we struggled to put it to any kind of forward or space favouring a forward for a long time.

Bannan had a game of 'almosts' and relatively little real impact. A couple of extra steps here, a slightly cleaner break from a contest there, and she would have ended the game in our favour multiple times. Must have been very frustrating and I'd be hoping she is setting herself for a mighty grand final.

Plenty to like. North are like a custom-built counter to the way we'd like to play and they kept the intensity up very well. Good test, time for the grand final!

From memory, the last time we played against the Brisbane Lions (our only loss this year), Tayla Harris was out injured and her presence was sorely missed. We would almost certainly have played a better game today but for the injury.

Fingers crossed that she gets the shoulder right for the Grand Final.

Had a huge last quarter back on ball. For 3/4’s she played predominantly half forward flank and ran around whilst her opponent sat back and cut off every forward attack.

Many of our experienced and best players - Paxy, Birch, Daisy, Hore, Harris, Goldy. Purcell were quiet for 3/4s. They lifted in the last

The ‘Demon Spirit’ and a touch more class when we needed it, got us over the line in the end.

Ball didn’t quite bounce our way for 3 quarters.

North cut down our handball game

Thanks to the defenders in the 3rd, especially Chaplin. We couldn't find a way out of our back-line, and kicks into the forwards, we couldn't hit them up. The gusty conditions didn't help.

Loved the number of smothers we did.

Using Hore behind the ball helped, as well as having her capacity to move forward.

Role players of Mithin and Heath, as well as Hanks, Paxman who were in everything all day, and Daisy, Zanker, Mackin, Gillard, Birch, Sherrif, did well.

Not our best game but did it when we needed.

Bring the milk crates, big week as the GF beckons.

Go Dees

100% agree, but what a ‘ripper’ in the last!

Have been watching more and more of this on telly and decided to go to my first aflw game today - great fun. The standard is terrific, particularly in terms of toughness and intensity.

Took the 2 yo for his first real AFL outing. Wish he had some of the girls toughness gee whiz

I heard (unofficially) that she’ll be right for next week. No lingering issue with the shoulder. Hopefully that doesn’t change.  🤞🏼

  • AFLW REPORT: Gold Coast

The forecast said wind. The ladder said mismatch. The scoreboard said obliteration. Melbourne didn’t just beat Gold Coast — they dismantled them: 13.15 (93) to 0.6 (6). An 87-point obliteration, the Suns held goalless, and the Demons delivering their second-highest winning margin and third-highest score in AFLW history.

It was a tough ask for him to break through as a 199cm ruckman in the shadow of an all-time great in that position who is also the club captain. He had some good days at Casey but was unable to progress and was delisted at the end of the season.

The 33-year-old Campbell has yet to play AFL football for Melbourne, but his Casey form has been strong and he has been retained as a ready-made ruck depth option who is widely regarded as someone who is excellent for the culture of the club.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: #30 Harry Sharp

The Demons acquired an interesting player in Sharp, who narrowly missed securing a spot in the Lions’ premiership team last year. The 22-year-old medium forward played in the opening round this season and ended up with 18 senior games, although he was substituted in or out in for ten of those matches. He demonstrated glimpses of form, but ultimately ended the year on the margins of the team.

Worked his way back after a slow start and a further slump in form going into the midseason but became a solid contributor for the club in the latter half of 2025. Closing in on 300 goals for the club.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Gold Coast

On Friday, the Demons return to our Casey Fields fortress where they have a 77% win rate. The scent of September is in the air and the struggling Suns are on the horizon. The Cranbourne weather forecast? Ominous, like the match itself: a strong chance of carnage. Let’s be honest, last week’s first half against the West Coast was a training drill but we dropped our guard in the final quarter. While this match is a mismatch on paper — second versus seventeenth — football is won in the wind, the contests, and the moments.
