yeah it is sad.  we won't see Langers and Hunt running down the wing together again!

😢

Watching them together was always a highlight in any game.

You can't make the same argument with Bowey versus Hunt and Weid versus Oliver due to the reasons you named. Bowey and Hunt play the same position where Weid and Oliver are totally different players in different positions. Besides I'd play Oliver as a Ruck before Weid anyway. Just wouldn't let him jump at the centre bounce. Wink wink Cough cough. Who would you prefer in the back 6, Bowey or Hunt.

Depends on the job they're assigned. If it's a wide receiver & distributor, Bowey. But if you have to quell the influence of a dangerous half-forward, Hunt. So for example if we front the Tigers you'd assume Hibbo goes to Dusty, Who do you want on Bolton ? Bowey ? I doubt it. Who's next option ? And don't give me Joel Smith - he'd be too busy handballing to Tom Lynch in the goalsquare.

Bowey got dropped for a couple of reasons - and didn't force his way back

Compo pick could be anywhere from 40-60.  Might not be much, for a bloke who played 20 games in a premiership year and 20 more the next.

If he goes, unfortunately this compo is looking likely, if we assume about 3 years at approx $500k-$600k.

Our absolute best pick would be around 35.

Yeah I'm thinking 40s is likely, would be surprised if we got one in the 30s. Then again who knows how the herbs and spices work.

I'd trust Demons 11, who has a good track record of mfc info, a lot more than anything reported in the media.

we probably did offer him the contract and then took it away when we reassessed our options and when he asked for something outrageous and its kinda just followed that trajectory to where it is now

The Back 6 or 7 I'd want see regularly is. May Lever Petty Salem Bowey with (Rivers or Hibb). Reckon we got the Tigers and most covered, seem to have for the last couple of years with Pies being the only exception. Just can't beat those muggs. You're right, Joel Smith ain't No Defender either.

fwiw this these are the compensation categories.

Free Agency Compensation pick categories:

•  1st round
•  end of 1st round
•  2nd round
•  end of 2nd round
•  3rd round

In applying the formula, an expert committee reviews the formula outcomes. The committee has the power to recommend alternative outcomes to GM – Football Operations where the formula produces a materially anomalous result.

The word 'expert' made me laugh!

So for Jayden we would get a third round pick currently #51 but that will come in to a pick possibly in the low 40's once the second and third round picks have been cashed in for F/S.

Can't tell you much it pains me to write that.

Probably why he didn’t get a game, although Gaff does the same

I actually believe he will play Hunt on a wing

Expert 1: "Did we get the desired result?"
Expert 2: "No, the formula is coming up with a second round pick."
Expert 1: "Than Scrap It! We cannot have them only receiving a second round pick! We'll give them a first round pick as promised!"
Expert 1 Walks Up to GM - Football Operations: "As discussed yesterday, the formula has come up with the outcome of a first round pick."
GM - Football Operations: "Excellent! Please Proceed."

Are you sure? If he signs for 4 years on $500 surely that is end of 2nd round at least?

Possibly.  I didn't think he would get that sort of offer.

I was using the Amon deal of 4 years on $600 to $650, as a guide and Port get a 2nd round pick.

I’d rate Hunt not as highly as Amon obviously but equivalent to a Tomlinson when we signed him. He was on 4 years and 400K back then I think

His contracts have been for 2 years at time.  I would be surprised if he was on $400k at the dees or if he gets that at WCE.

Sometimes we fans over estimate a player's salary e.g Freo reportedly offered Blake Acres a two year contract of $200-$300 p.a.  Carlton offered $350k for three years.

Not wishing to compare the players more giving an example of some salary realities for 'journeymen'.

Yes I think Eagles will have put up at least a 3year $350k a year deal to Hunt. At least!!! Could be a 4 year deal.  And almost a “you are clearly in our planning and will be guaranteed a game” type promise.

and the rest

the 'average' afl wage is $375k

he's not going to move across the country to play for a bottom-ranked side for an 'average' wage

That's your first mistake, footballers are commodities that are to be bought and sold 😛

Oh and they're also role models and not entititled to lives of their own. Whenever I see player X out having a beer I wonder why he isnt training at that exact time.

Oh and why don't they care as much as we do when they lose? Based on no proof whatsoever. 🤣

Hunt’s our 23rd best player. Even at West Coast he’s not getting near their top 15.

And top 10 players all make 700k+, the next 5 get paid well too, bottom 10 players all make at least 100k plus match payments. 16-30 on the list  therefore have to get sandwiched.

My guess is the raise in average player wages isn’t matched by the median player wage. We’d have to pay Hunt the median, given he is our median, I doubt that’s anywhere close to 375. West Coast would only have to beat that by enough to justify his move.

You’re right Dub. I’m heartbroken at the thought of him leaving. My only consolation is that it’s not Essendon or Collingwood who’ll get him.

Agree totally, very sad face

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
